  1. Thanks for the name Jesse! And yeah, I'm livin the high life. Don't think my feet have touched the ground yet! I spoke with several taxidermist and it's gonna be pretty expensive to get another cape and get a shoulder mount done. Plus, I'm kind of skeptical of having a deer that is not my deer mounted and on the wall. I think it would really bother me, especially if the new cape didn't really look like the deer I shot. With that said, I am going to do a European mount. I don't have one, so I'm pretty excited. I'm thinking about getting a Euro mount kit that Sasksheds makes. I think they are pretty dang cool. Thanks again everyone! Good luck and happy hunting.
  2. My truck has a changer and I've got a little bit of everything. As of this moment: Disc 1- George Strait, It Just Comes Natural Disc 2- Lil Wayne- Tha Carter III Disc 3- Rick Ross- Trilla Disc 4- Kid Rock- Rock and Roll Jesus Disc 5- Shooter Jennings- The Wolf Disc 6- A CD I burned for my wife for a road trip that has Van Morrison, Josh Turner, Kenny Chesney, Hank, Waylon, The Judds, etc.
  3. I made a post in the bow hunting room about a buck that I shot this weekend. As stated, I recovered the deer over 48 hours after I shot it and the cape was a complete loss. I plan on taking it to the taxidermist in the very near future to have a shoulder pedestal mount done. I know that a taxidermist can supply you with a cape in instances like this, but I'm a bit nervous that it may not look like the same deer that I shot. Are there any tips that you all have for replacement capes? Anything specific I should ask for? Things to stay away from? And also, how much can I expect to pay extra if there is a charge? Thanks!
  4. Shot this buck on Friday October 2, 2009 and recovered him Sunday the 4th, 2009.
  5. Thanks everyone! Yes, I tagged him. Oh, he will be mounted. I am taking him in tomorrow. I just have to buy another cape and he will be good to go. Here he is back in July. He was showing up pretty often in the summer, then he disappeared in mid August. Friday was the first time he and the other bachelors have shown themselves since then. That cold front we got in Oklahoma really made the difference. The bucks were out and about!
  6. Some of you may remember a post that I made about a buck that I needed a name for. He was really tall and the name "Miller" was suggested, due to the fact that he was living the high life. Well, the name stuck and on Friday morning at about 8:20, it was Miller Time!!! He came down the same trail that I shot last year's buck on. Miller stopped and I settled my pin at about 25 yards. I knew I had made a decent shot, but thought it was a bit far back. I got down and recovered my arrow and found good blood where he was standing, but also some digestive matter. I decided to back out and gave him several hours to expire. Upon coming back that afternoon, we found good blood for about 100 yards and then it disappeared. We continued our search on Friday for 6 hours and came up empty handed. We even took to the sky and searched by helicopter, but found nothing. I searched an additional 2 hours on Saturday and then I had to return home with nothing to show. I had the worst feeling in my stomach all day Friday and Saturday. Last night I decided that I would give it one more shot. My dad and I drove the hour and a half trip to where I hunt first thing this morning. Just like you would finish a story that you were writing, we parked the truck and walked up on where he lay dead, not 60 yards past where we had been tirelessly searching the days before. Miller had made it almost 500 yards from where he was shot! I am bummed that the meat has spoiled and his cape was in bad shape. But I can not tell you how relieved I am to put this buck to bed. I have not slept well at all the last 2 nights and have replayed the hunt 1,000 times in my head. You can really start to doubt yourself in a moment like this, but you just can't give up. So, without further a do, I present Mr. Miller!!!!
  7. Bought some spray this morning at Wally World. Says it shoots 25 feet, we shall see.
  8. Good luck to all! I'm taking off about noon and will be in the woods until Sunday! Can't wait! This cold front should have the deer up and stirring around.
  9. I have got a nest of red wasps under the platform of my two-man ladder stand. I was in it two days ago and they got after me as I was getting down. Only got hit once though, as I ended up jumping off about 12 of the 15 feet of the ladder. I need to get them out of there before I sit that stand, so my question is how? I'm afraid that Raid or wasp spray will really stink up my site and will make deer weary. Same with gasoline. I'm also afraid of just knocking the nest down with out killing them first. Anybody got any tricks or tips?
  10. My trail cam battery was running low so this pic came out pretty blurry. Any guesses what it is?
  11. His name ended up being "The Miller Buck" or just Miller. But more importantly, has anybody seen him? Because he is MIA in my neck of the woods. I had a good little bachelor group coming in regularly and now they are gone. I got tons and tons of does and small bucks but the big boys have gone missing. I you should see them on your place, please don't shoot them. They are lost and probably scared.
  12. 10 in one night? That's crazy! I have always thought some copperhead boots would be sweet lookin. Be careful out there.
  13. When I take my wife with me, I keep my hunts pretty short. 3 hours max. She doesn't like for me to kill anything while she is there, but we have an agreement that if a shooter buck presents itself, then I will take the shot. She has been right there with my as I've cleaned deer and has had no problem, but for some reason she just doesn't want to see one die. I also try to take her once in the the rut action has picked up so we have more action. Even I get bored in the early season when the action is slow, so I know she would too. Above all, keep her comfortable. Keeping them warm and dry is probably the most important. Good luck.
  14. You may or may not have seen this before, but I just got it in an email. What a great promo!!! That guy dominates the news lady. Reminds me of a Bob Stoops press conference. Haha. My favorite line is, "You don't have a problem with God do you?" Great stuff.
  15. Just curious to see what everyone is paying for corn right now? Several weeks ago Walmart had 40 lbs bags marked at $8.87!!! Today, I picked up some at the same Walmart for $5.27. That's the cheapest I've seen it in several years. How much is it in you neck of the woods?
  16. I've been hunting the same deer for 3 seasons now. I can sure get him on camera, but he just wont come by while I'm on stand.
  17. Just goes to show what happens when they have the opportunity grow! Great, great buck.
  18. Looks like golf course bass? Nice fish!!!
  19. Here is one more pic I got of him. Thanks for all the great input! So far "The Miller Buck" is still my number one pick. I will give it through the weekend and then it will be official. A few more days to get your suggestions in. Lets hear em!
