  1. IM in the market for a new turkey killer. I ve narrowed it down to 2 differnt guns the Mossberg 835 ulti mag and the winchester 1300 nwtf turkey. ive seen both in person and shot my first bird with a buddys 1300. Both are about the same price so i was wanting any feed back i could get about either of these guns (good or bad) Also both are offered with a really short barrel (mossberg 20" winchester 18") I think i would like haveing a short barrel but will one being that short be limited to range or pattern size?? one more thing....the 835 is backbored to 10 ga deminsions and the 1300 didnt say so im assuming its not.....is there going to be a difference in 1 patterning better than another because it is back bored??? make that 2 more things the 1300 is not 3.5in does a 3.5 have very much more effective range than a 3...ive heard alot of stories of guys getting better patterns out of 3s vs 3.5s well i know thats a lot of questions but id appreciate it if someone could help me out i just want to get the better of the 2 guns thanks
  2. Re: Savage varmint I have a 12bvss in 243 with the accutrigger (which i think is the absolute best factory trigger on any gun) and my buddy has an older model just like it that is a single shot in 22-250 mine shoots about .5 with premium ammo his being the single shot shoots .5 with the cheaper stuff. but both guns have shot groups that will make a liar out of you if you cant produce a target to back it up
  3. Re: Ok the Omega it is, now which scope? If you Can afford to spend $129(i think thats what they are in RedHead) I would go for a bushnell ledgend 2-7x32 it has 91% light transmission. I am pretty sure thats the most you are going to get for under$200
  4. Re: Looking to buy a muzzelloader, any suggestions? I dont know where you guys are looking at these omegas but i bought mine last year for $369 Stainless and black synthetic at my local gun shop
  5. Re: question for AJ... thanks alot the guy wants 200 for it so i guess hes about right. thanks again
  6. AJ could you give me the value list for a winchester model 140 12ga. A guy at work has it for sale. I handled the gun once about 5 yrs ago and it was in prob 95% back then. he said its been squirrel hunting less than 10 times since then so im sure its still in great shape.
  7. Re: Worse rabbit hunting day ever! we started with around 20 in and it was melted down to about10 in so it was pretty wet and sloppy
  8. Re: Worse rabbit hunting day ever! hey guys i went yesterday and the same we did jump 1 and the dogs wouldnt even run him my buddy said maybe they couldnt smell verywell in the snow. the dogs that is
  9. Re: finally called one in ok thanks for the tips guys.....I tied a piece of red cloth around my decoys neck to give the appearance of blood not sure if it helped any but by the yotes actions it didnt hurt either.
  10. Re: finally called one in Thanks guys....yeah i m really fired up about going again. Should i stick with the 243 or shoud i take a turkey gun? im really bummed out about missing him. everywhere i hunt requires a prettygood walk so taking 2 guns is out of the question. are they all gonna come like that or was that an exeption??

    7mm08

Re: 7mm08 the 7-08 and the 243 are both necked down from the .308 they are all the same case with different bullet diameters. so they can hold the same powder charge and since the 243 shoots the lightest bullet it will have the least recoil of all three. then the 08 and then the 308.
  12. Re: PLEASE FEED THE SQUIRRELS hey david if you dont mind telling what countydo you live in im in harrison....just curious.
  13. this is my 2nd year coyote hunting. last year i went about 4or5 times and never saw the first one. so i bought a jonny stewart digital preymaster over the summer. since deer season is my #1 i just started yote hunting about 2wks ago. yesterday was my3rd time out this year. we had a 20in snow last wed. and theres still about 4-5in on the ground. I have 20yrds of speaker wire so i set my rabbit decoy out at about 30yrds. i was on my second stand in an old cowpasture with lots of sinkholes and fencelines when i saw 2 about300 yrds on the edge of the woods they must have known something was up because the just milled around the edge of the fencerow and never came out( i couldnt get a clean shot it was too thick) By the way i hunt with a savage 12bvss with a weaver6-24 in 243. anyways not 30 sec after i saw them head back into the woods i caught movement to my right on an oldgrown ujp fence row. it was a coyote at about 60 yards as soon as i saw him he took off after my decoy i was trying to find him in my scope. when i finally found himand shot he was almost right on my decoy. i thought i hitem because he jumped about 3feet in the air and took off i shot again as he ran up the hill but missed both times. guess i wouldve been better off with a shotgun haha. just thought id share my first semi-successful hunt with you guys.

  17. I was on my way home from work yesterday when a friend flagged me down. he asked if i wanted to go rabbit hunting behind my house. i had never been before and wasnt really that interested but agreed any way. i only had an hour before i had to pick up my boy from the sitter. we got five in 1 hr with no dog. all i have done since is think about going again.
