  1. Re: 2004, 105\" Iowa deer hey billy goat i really like the skull mount im a big fan of them. See if you can find a large piece of drift wood to screw or glue it to and hang it on the wall. i bet it will get as much attention as any of your mounts.
  2. Re: Weatherby Vangaurd Sell it. if you already have a wsm id get something else
  3. Re: Got My Mossberg Today!! welcome to the 835 bandwagon. either you love em or hate em. i love mine.
  4. Re: 835 barrel could stand polishing. aj I know im not the original poster to this question but im really interested in the topic. is this something that is worth while?? will it help all guns?? Is it hit and miss or are results usually the same for most factory bores? sorry for all the questions just trying to figure out if it would be worth it i mean paying a smith to do it.
  5. Re: FS: Star Dot .676 Extra Full Turkey Choke....... Hey I went out and bought that same choke off of ebay...partly because you said it done really well out of your moss. it does great out of mine also. what i was wondering was if you had found a better choke than that. if you did im interested as to which one it is.
  6. Re: Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag Shells? the stock tube in an 835 turkey is a .695 thats really pretty good considering some of the aftermarket tubes are that size and some even bigger for the mossy.
  7. I ve heard of it being done but never thought a guy could do it himself.... im hoping you could get some replies to this so i could find out my self....maybe you should post it in shotgun forum I bet aj would have what your looking for.
  8. Re: which muzzeloader? My vote is for the t/c omega. I have one in .45 cal. it shoots great and is as easy to clean as any muzzleloader on the market. as for the trigger I have a savage varmit rifle with the accutrigger and i have to say it is very good i would not say it is "better" than that on the omega. it is about 2lbs and the omega is about 3.5-4lbs. Yes the accutrigger is lighter but that doesnt make it better. the omega is just as crisp and has no freetravel. Just my .02 bottom line is get what you want and what fits you the best. I for one would not bash any muzzle loader made by a popular manufacture these days. they are all quality guns.
  9. Re: Really Confused Now I own an 870 and an 835. for turkeys my vote is the 835 hands down. my 835 patterned as good with the factory choke as my 870 did with a kicks .665 hope this helps

  11. Re: Got the Freak back thanks guys ive gotta lot of mixed reactions from my hunting buddys some say they would have let em walk others say its cool i guess its a matter of opinion i happen to really like it though
  12. Re: Got the Freak back it was really wierd because he actually had no base like a normal rack on that side.i mean it was the same diamater where it attached to the skull in stead of having the ring. i assume he injured it very early. but i guess it could have been genetic i dont know. he also had a huge under bite like 3/4 of an inch.
  13. this is a buck i took this past season.
  14. Re: Shooting Sticks / Bipods ??? this is my savage 12bvss with harris bipod
  15. Re: turkey loads down range energy?? HMMMM... now i just wonder what everyones beef is with the 40 yrd standard i keep hearing about. If a gun patterns good at 50 or 60 or even 70 yrds as you mention whats the deal! Oh well i guess ill put some time into patterning my gun at some longer distances to see what my max range really is not that i wont try to get a bird close just incase its the onley shot im offered. Thanks again AJ your always very helpful.
  16. Re: turkey loads down range energy?? thanks alot aj you always come through. I shot my turkey gun at 50 yrds the other day and had 19 in the head and neck so i m good to go.
  17. Re: Biggest bird? my biggest bird was my first one. it was taken in 02' 22 lbs 11 1/2 in beard 23mm spurs
  18. Re: bad slugs? Ive shot several deer with lightfield and winchester partition gold sabots and have never had a problem with them. the longest shot ive ever taken with was at a doe with lightfields it was 135 yds give or take a few that was b4 i had a range finder the bullet went through the heart. She ran about 30 yds. with the right bullet placement it doesnt matter.
  19. Re: Shooting Sticks / Bipods ??? i bought a harris bipod 13 to 25 inches for coyote hunting but found that it was to hard to get repositioned quickly if i had to turn. So i bought a stoney point pole cat. its a monopod its much more versitale. but not quite as steady.
  20. I ve been reading on the turkey hunting forum. and have heard some guys say that a gun might pattern well enough at a certain distance but not have enough down range energy to kill a bird and was just wondering if anyone knew how much is needed to kill a turkey if so how much is in a 3.5 in #5(thats what ive patterned my gun with.) out of a 24in bbl.??Ive only been turkey hunting for 3 yrs and dont have alot of experience. Im just trying to figure out my max effective range. thanks for any input.
  21. Re: mossberg 835 or winchester 1300??? Well guys I ordered an 835 yesterday I have heard and read on here too many good things about them. I handled the 20" version but they didnt have the one with the 24" bbl so i had em order it. I am used to carrying a 12 lb. savage varmit rifle around chasing coyotes so the 835 felt like a bb gun compared to that. well ill keep you guys informed on how i like it once i get to pattern it...BTW thanks for all your in put.
  22. Re: First Day with the 300 WSM Savage doesnt recommend that you break in your rifle they just tell you that some magazine says you should and this is how your supposed to
  23. Re: First Day with the 300 WSM whew this is gonna be a big pot to stir!! just kidding I never really figured it was any thing more than just a fluke...but by no means have i ever done any tests of my own. I buy a gun and shoot it. i clean it when i think it needs it or before long periods of storage. and i dont thing a cleaning rod can damage a piece of firearms grade steel. I may be completely wrong but all my guns shoot as good now as when they were new.
  24. Re: gun of choice for varmits I use a Savage 12bvss in 243 with a harris bipod or a stoney point pole cat. 55gr winchester bst's
  25. Re: mossberg 835 or winchester 1300??? well guys thanks for all the info I appreciate it . The gun will be used for turkey only!
