  2. Yeah time is not in our favor for sure but it only take about 2 min when a bird is right. My short story to come. 22.1lbs 11 3\8" beard 1 1\4" spurs

  7. I agree 100% with Todd. The ear or toe pinch seems harsh but it really isn't. Most learn quick to turn off the pressure. You wont loose any desire or drive if done correctly. My two pups are nutts over fetching anything and i mean anything. Yesterday a buddy of mine dropped his glove after getting out of the blind, I said fetch and Coal grabbed it as fast as you could blink. Once your pup figures out that holding or fetching will turn the pressure off she will grab whatever you tell her to. Stick with it and dont get discouraged. It will all come together Coal in ND last week Lady in ND last week
  8. Sounds like she is doing real good. Go back to the hold portion of training. Use the duck or Doken duck while doing this or make a dowl with 2x4 blocks on each end giving it weight. Work her into it. Hold means HOLD nothing less. Fetch means FETCH nothing less. The force and hold portion of the training can be the hardest but sounds like she is almost there.
  9. Ill give it a try 1st is a Hooded Merganser. Beautiful birds and will make you think you the best shot around. 2nd is a little tricky but ill go with a Grey duck or Gadwall 3rd is tricky but im going with a Ring neck.
  10. This is all i have with me in it. doubt it will work.

  17. Took Coal (black lab) on his first hunt at 5 months. He was making double mark retrieves and short blinds. Would have taken him sooner but i wanted to wait and go to Arkansas for his first hunt so he would actually be able to see some birds. He wound up retrieving 1 goose 1 pintail 6 mallards and 5 teal on his first hunt.

  20. It happens to everyone sooner or later. If you feel bad it just shows you have some compassion for the animal you are after. The feeling never goes away as it shouldn’t but you just have to go back out and try again, just learn from you mistakes. I had it happen to me a few years ago in some National Forest here in MS. I shot the bird at 30yds and rolled him, when I was about to stand up he got to his feet and flew over me. I missed him twice as he flew by me. He left a pile of feathers and a blood trail most deer hunters would dream of. I trailed him until the blood stopped hitting the ground because of the pine trees. I looked for 2 hours then hiked out the mile to my truck and then went home 25miles to get my lab. I went back and wound up running into a Park ranger who was more than impressed I was putting forth so much effort in finding a bird. I told him I was sick that I didn’t make a clean shot and owed it to the bird to find him if it was possible. Me and my lab looked for another couple hours with no luck, the pines messed up the blood trail. I think of that bird every season, still don’t know what happened and prob never will. What I did do is I put a Bushnell Trophy red dot scope on my gun and I use the Circle with the dot in the middle for my sight. With the choke I have the outside circle is the size of my pattern. If the turkeys head is inside of the outer circle I have 110% confidence in the shot. I also shoot NITRO shells yes they are $6 a shot but was that bird you just shot and lost worth $6. Yes you can still miss or mess up a bird with them if you make a bad shot but it puts the odds a lot more in your favor. The new Hevi-Shot magblend is nice also and less per shell. Main thing is don’t beat yourself up over this to bad, just get back out there and find another bird.
  21. Awesome job AL congrats on your MS limit.
