Thanks Im catching it for letting that deer walk but it couldnt have worked out any better. Im glad my dad got him. If you put them side by side mine will hold its own. Shot mine with a Mathews Drenalin, goldtip arrows and the new Smoke Ramcat broadheads(which i am impressed with) Dad shoots the new Z7, goldtip arrows and he tried out some Muzzys but he said he is going to stick with the Cabelas Lazer Supreme head. He loves those things.

Well here goes, First trip to Kansas on a deer hunt and all i can say is it was nothing short of unreal. It was everything and more that i thought it would be. The trip consisted of me and my dad. We left out on Thursday November 11 for our 16hr trip to North West Kansas. We made good time and arrived at 7am Friday morning which to my surprise it was still dark. (sweet i could sleep a little late in the mornings) We met up with our friend and land owner and unloaded the truck while watching two shooters walk up a draw. We then started hanging stands to get ready for the next days hunt. We finish up around 5pm and decide to go sit in a stand till dark just to see what all is up and moving. Afternoon 1: Dad decided to go sit in the stand set at an old house place where he took a nice 11pt a couple years earlier. I decided to go sit on a creek bed that ran beside a big corn field about 300yds from his set. we got to our stands around 5:15pm and around 6pm the first deer of my trip steps out at 400yds. I look and he looks like a nice deer so i decide to hit my horns together to see if i can get him to look. Well it works and he comes in on a string to 25yds. He has a broken right main beam so i decided to pass him. After he walks by and gets into the brush i can finally size him up and thats when i realized i made a mistake by letting him walk. . With him in the field by himself i had no way to size him up and his body size made him look a little smaller than he actually was. Well after sinking in sorrow as the buck walks off i see that he is walking towards dads set. How cool would that be. Then about 30min later i get a call that he has shot a nice buck and will meet me at the house after dark. When i get there he said he shot a nice 11pt, I said i think in messed up by passing a nice buck. Then i ask him if he had a broke right main beam and he said yes why. I told him the story and he said "you passed that buck up" I said that after looking at all the horns of the land owner and listing to stories of busted up racks i decided to pass. I know a bonehead move but there are more out there. I hope. Guess this is a good payback for all the bucks he has put me on 230lb 11pt going to score in the 160's Day 1: That morning i saw 8 shooter buck (after having my head recalibrated on horn size) 200 pheasants and 25 Rio longbeards. It was an awesome morning. That after noon I saw a lot of deer and out of nowhere a 155"+ 10pt steps out of the brush on the edge of a creek bank. He was a little far but i felt comfortable with the shot and just as i released the arrow he steps into the creek and i miss him by a second. If he would have not stepped into the creek i would have smoked him. Just adds to the first day, it will be anther sleepless night. Two days and two huge bucks and i dont capitalize on either of them. My luck may be running out. Day 2 the wind was blowing 60mph so we decided to stay in and help the farmer out around his land. We also went to hang another set where i had been seeing some good deer cross on a point. Day 3 I was sitting on the new stand set and could see a huge buck tending a doe with 2 other shooter bucks and a smaller bucks were trying to get close to her. The larger buck wasn’t having any of it, he would chase them off. The doe finally worked her way to the creek bed where i was at hunting so i was hoping a buck would work its way to me. Well thats how it worked out, my buck steps out at 8yds and i am able to arrow him. I was beyond excited, he ran 100yds and folded up He is a 250lb+ 8pt that will go in the 140's Day 4 I was able to arrow a nice 160lb doe. The good Lord blessed us on this trip and i cant wait to go back. Sorry for the long read but i wanted to share my trip. Talk about some highs and lows. __________________

MCH Congrats on a nice buck... Just got in from my KS trip and words cant describe the trip I had. Unreal. My dad was able to take a 160"+ 11pt in the first hour. I was able to take a 250lb+ 140"+ 8pt on the third morning, after missing a 155"+ 10pt the second afternoon. He stepped into a ditch just as i released. 2 seconds longer and he would have been smoked. The good Lord blessed us on this trip. it was awesome I'll post more after i get some rest.

I was boning out my deer yesterday and found by broadhead. It had worked its way back into the shoulder right at the elbow joint. It did some major damage. It held up great after going threw all that bone. The first shoulder blade had a hole where the two muscles meet, right where that bone T's off the blade. Two of the blades were bent just a little on the tips but the head was still 100% intact. Two of the three blades would still shave. Very happy with the outcome.

Hunter I got them from the smoke ramcat website. They are $33 for 3

What did they use to clean them? I use acetone and a rag

Man awesome deer. The two hook points at his bases are some cool character points. Prob had a blade cut his heart with that shot. Only way i would say that you needed to pass him is if I was sitting in the tree beside you and I could get a shot. Other than that GREAT JOB and heck of a deer with a bow or with anything for that matter. He is a true trophy and don’t let anyone tell you any different. People watch to much TV these days and think there are 180+deer walking around everywhere. Did you pull his jawbone to check the age? a 3+yr old is a good deer. Maybe he could have grown larger or maybe the next person to see him would have taken him or he could have gotten hit by a car. After you pull the trigger never second guess your decision. Be proud of what you were blessed with because there is no taking the shot back. Huge Congrats

Jeramie, these aren't mechanical heads they are a fixed blade hybrid. They are a 1 3\8" cut fixed blade head that if you dont get a passthrough the blades will fold foward towards the tip giving it a 1 3\4" back cut on the way out. The blades are sharpened on both sides.

The Ramcats caught my eye so I bought a pack and had to give them a try because I really liked the idea of they way they work. I’ve shot MX-3's for the past two years so it would take a good head to make me swap. I decided to give the Ramcat a test before I would nock one on an animal and this is what I came up with. Accuracy is top notch, same as fieldtip no question. I shot two times and this is what I did; a field tip at 30yds hit the 2"circle, MX-3-Circle, and the Ramcat-Circle. The difference was penetration. I was shooting into a Shotblocker target. My field tip arrow would go in up to the label on my goldtip arrow. The MX-3 would go all the way to about an inch or two from the fletching and stop. The Ramcat first shot was 7yds behind the target after passing threw it. The second shot, my arrow finally stopped after skipping down my driveway for 25yds. The tip looked fine. I was impressed with the accuracy and penetration, but I wanted to make sure the head would hold up so I decided to shoot a piece of tin and see what it would do. I shot the tin 3 times at 30yds, my fletchings stopped the arrow from going threw the tin and the target. The only minimal damage found was the very tip of the blades curved back but didn’t break. They were still somewhat sharp, they would still stick on you fingernail. I decided after all that I would give them a try and I was able to give them a good field test this past Saturday. I shot a cull 5+yr old 4pt. The shot was at 10yds and my arrow entered the top of one shoulder blade busting a rib and then threw the lungs busting another rib and then exiting the offside shoulder blade. My arrow broke and I never found my broad head which I am disappointed in, I wanted to see how it held up after hitting all that bone. But upon cleaning the deer there was a perfect star-hole coming out of the offside shoulder blade so the head held up great. Anyway just my $.02 on the head, I really like them and hope to be able to post more about them as the season goes on.

3seasons Team 12 Da Winners Mississippi 4pt Cull Buck -
Hey Al that’s awesome that will be a rare bird to try to take. I know its not the same but can you get you a fall tag and try to stick him with your bow? Nothing like spring hunting but for a double spurred bird i would make an exception.

Hey guys been working a lot so havent posted much. Got a chance to go hunting this past sat and was able to arrow an nice CULL buck. Talk about catching it from all my Trophy Hunter friends. You would think they would be glad to get this one out of the breeding pool. He is a 5+yr old 4 point still in full velvet, 19"beam and 4.5"bases. Not much to look at but i was glad to see him. I got to try out my new broadheads, Smoke Ramcats, they are sweet. Shot threw both shoulder blades and a rib on each side. Hope to better him, i leave for Kansas in 9days cant wait.

where can i find some info on these shells, didnt know remington came out with any.

Hey Gary sounds like we're shooting the same gun. Try Winchester HV 1 3/4oz #5's Federal flight control 2oz #5's These should shoot just fine in your gun with the factory choke.
-
Hey Rem Nice one, the deer too. Been there done that, maybe not quiet as bad. Congrats
-
I killed one that had a 9.5" beard. The next year it was made illegal to harvest a bearded hen in Mississippi's spring season. Took some pics and saved the beard. Fried her up, a lot more tender than an old beat up gobbler. They are not that uncommon around the places i hunt. But they are still a true trophy. I saw a white (salt and pepper) hen with a beard a couple years ago.

Hey Gary, what gun\choke combo do you have? I shoot a 3" Rem 870 with a 21" barrel and i use a Preston Pittman choke. It shoots Fed. Flight control #5's very good. Also shoots Win HiVel #5's very good. It all depends on the gun and choke, different guns shoot different loads better, just have to buy a few different boxes and try them out. Hope this helps

Speaking of broadheads... Does anybody remember these?

Ive got some of those, my dad gave them to me, he used to shoot watermelons with them. Makes a perfect hole. Fun to play around with, not so sure about hunting with them. -
Im headed to Kansas this year (private land) other than that i'll be on the River banks a lot this year.
