  1. I went out with my brother to call for him Saturday morning. It rained so hard at one point you couldn't see across to the other side of the field we set up in! It rained pretty steady until we packed it in around 8:30. Fortunatley, it stopped raining long enough for us to get the 2000 trees we had into the ground. Then about 4, the rain started again! No luck seeing a bird. We did hear 2 or 3 gobbling as we were planting (when it wasn't raining) so the birds were there. Sunday morning brought more of the previous day. It rained the entire day. There were several downpours but nothing like Saturday morning. No birds seen Sunday either. We did get a phone call about 8 to tell us there were birds in the yard by the cabin! By the time we made our way back, they were nowhere to be found. Do the turkeys continue on their "normal" routine during a heavy rain or do they hold tight under some cover? I was certain that where we set up that we'd be able to call a tom in from our property, the neighbor to the south or west. Not sure how far the calling could be heard in between the rain beating down and the thunder. The birds are there. The neighbors have been seeing quite a few and the sign is there. Even though we needed some rain it definatley was not our freind this weekend. (I'm blaming the rain and not my calling:p:D) How did any of the other WI hunters do this past week? Hope you had better luck than my brother.
  2. Dude, you're getting old! No comment on when I went to prom.
  3. That right there is funny stuff!! I will be to work tomorrow if, for some unknown reason, you have leftovers! (yeah, right)
  4. Well, we lucked out. Only had to plant 2000. And we were able to get them in during the break between downpours yesterday. We planted them in rows for future timber harvest. The land we planted is in a forest program. So, down the road they will be logged off. We did leave some openings for future stand placements though. We've planted approx. 15000 trees over the past 6 years! The owner swears this is the last time for quite awhile. (he wouldn't put that in writting though) Most were done with the tractor and planter. About a 1/4 were put in with a shovel by hand.
  5. Quite a few going past right now! Pretty cool.
  6. I'm off in a couple hours to the cabin. We've got 4000 pines to put in the ground! All by hand! Going to squeeze in some turkey calling for my brother as well in the morning and afternoon and Sunday morning as well (if need be). Here's to hoping the rain (or snow given the past couple of weeks) holds off!! Nothing worse than being soaked digging holes!
  7. Don't let his looks deceive you. He really is a great guy. Sorry Randy, I couldn't resist.
  8. Just received an email from Jake Miller. The four states him and his dad are looking at are South Dakota, Indiana, Kentucky, and Nebraska.
  9. Sitting in the pop up blind I have, all I wear is black.
  10. It appears it's all over. The US Navy did what they do and the captain has been recovered! Job well done!!
  11. I'm sure had the pirates not had a hostage this situation would be history with the hostage takers becoming fish food! A strike probably is all set up ready to go! A little off of the path...back in 1985 (or 86) terrorists took over the cruise ship Aquilli Loro (sp). Leon Klinghoffer, an elderly American in a wheelchair was killed and thrown overboard. Several hours after the ship was taken over, my Special Ops unit was on a plane enroute to take the ship back. We were flying with Navy Seals, some Rangers, and other Special Forces units. We had the ship layout and plans on who was boarding where and how, who was doing what was all set by the time we landed in England. Fortunatly for the cowards who took the ship over, they gave up before we were given the green light to go! In the case of the Somoli pirates, I'm guessing the same is true. There are a group, all armed, locked and loaded, sitting on pins and needles, doing walk throughs of the senerio, waiting for the green light to go!! Hopefully, the captian is returned to his family unharmed! Gotta love Special Ops!!
  12. For what it's worth... I sat in on Greg Miller's seminar @ the WI Deer and Turkey Expo last week. Listening to him and then talking to him after he said that South Dakota, Kentucky, Indiana (and one other that's escaping me at the moment) were places he was looking at for this year. He pointed out price for a tag was a big determining factor. It's within most peoples price range and you can by tags over the counter. He pointed out that they were having no problems finding land to hunt either. They just had to knock on a few doors. He said that who he was wan't an issue either as no one recognized him or the others. He said that Iowa was most likely out as they increased the price of their nonresident tags quite a bit. Might be worth looking into.

    Andrea

I thought it was "quieter" here on the forums...no Andrea! I knew something was different. Can't wait for her to get back to posting again!
  14. First off...Thanks for doing what you do with the youth. Without guys like you, many wouldn't experience hunting as they would have no guidance! I'm sure even though she didn't shoot that bird, she had the time of her life!! Second...welcome to the forums huntermomof4! You'll find this is a great place to make friends and learn alot of things you didn't know.
  15. I'm sneaking right up behind you!:D
  16. Sorry to hear of your loss. It isn't easy, I know. We are going through that here at my house as well. My daughters best friend was killed in an accident a couple weeks back. It still hasn't set in with Beck that Beth is gone. Time heals all wounds! Even though Emily is gone you'll always have the memories the two of you had. Nothing can take that away. Take care. You and Emily's family are in my thoughts and prayers.
  17. Happy Easter to all from Randolph, WI! I've got my girlfriend and hopefully my daughters joining me for tenderloin on the grill, salad, grilled aspargus, and a drink or two later this afternoon. Other than that, I'm just giving thanks that the Son of God sacrificed himself for us all!
  18. Happy Easter to you and your family. It's great to see you back! Another cheesehead...can't be all bad.
  19. http://www.channel3000.com/news/19152930/detail.html Some people just need more to do!
  20. Glad to hear we've added another to the hunting mix! Good job on the 97% too!
  21. Sounds like you are in for an exciting spring!! Good luck!!
  22. Awsome news!!! Prayers going out to make sure it stays that way!!
  23. I know of a couple guys that did just this thing. They purchased a "shed" from Home Depot. After some modifications (insulation, wood stove, a couple windows) they have a dry, warm place to sleep or just warm up. On the back wall they put in a couple bunks that fold up giving them room to set up the card table. It easily "sleeps" 4 (one on each bunk and 2 on the floor) with plenty of "socializing" room before bedtime!
