#2 Live hunt begins Early muzzleloader in Kansas
SE_KSBowhunter replied to Tim Andrus's topic in The Realtree Pro Staff Room
Going to give it one more try this evening... sounds like we are going to be in a new set-up sitting on a different bean field. Hopefully there will be a little more activity than what we have had the past few days, seems to be hit and miss. We are frustrated to say the least but at least we are able to be out hunting, could be a lot worse. Just a hard time of the year to hunt. Keep checking back and maybe we will have some successful pics to post later tonight! Clint -

Like Ben said, the majority of the bucks if not all by now have lost their velvet about 2 weeks ago based on the trail cam pics that I have. It's pretty windy here today, hopefully it will die down by tomorrow evening for the first sit. We have high hopes of getting on one of those good bucks... -

Camera batteries are charged and ready to roll! Warm temps in the 80's to start out but this weekend should be low 70's with lows in the upper 40's (fingers crossed). Hopefully Adam can get us set up on a good one and we can continue our luck like we did in Montana. See you soon! -
I was there for the laundry detergent spray... that was so funny. They couldn't figure out why it was so thick. lol I thought maybe we could talk about the fact that you have some of the best camera guys/fellow pro-staffers filming for you and all the hard work that we have to do to make it look so easy... lol Just givin you a hard time, ready to share some time in the stand again next month! Hoping we can get some good footage/kills for the show!

I will be at the Kansas City Cabelas all weekend for their Archery Classic there. Makes for long days but it is fun getting to talk to everyone about their hunts and giving a couple seminars. Maybe you will make it back to KC and we can do a show together this time. By the way... no rain and HOT here in Kansas, bring your lightweght camo in September!

Tim who? -
Yep, been to the lodge several times. Tim had to buy me a steak dinner there for filming his kill in Montana in 2010. The cafe is also a good place to grab some breakfast in the morning! I replied to your pm, will do my best to help out.

Where at in Neosho County? Our ground is along the Neosho River outside of St. Paul. Tim has hunted a few times. Simple clover or alfalfa seems to work pretty good, that time of the year there is mostly soy beans and corn. Everyone is right about the weather, its tough to predict. Could be in the 70's one day and the 30's the next.

Pleasanton is just north of me about 20 miles. There are a lot of good bucks taken in that area and just west of there around Mound City, several booners that I know of. Weather is a little warm right now but a cold front is supposed to move through starting tomorrow morning, should be good hunting the next couple of days!

Congrats to you and your dad Ben! Now go get in the stand after those whitetails! Huntin is tough here in Kansas right now too but that should change in a couple of weeks.

HSS Pro Series for me. The just came out with the Ultra Lite X-treme that only weighs 2 lbs and looks awesome, especially for the warm early season days. Clint

I use the Tru-Fire Edge buckle fold-back and love it.

Happy birthday!
-
How do you think it turned out, Ben? I haven't been able to watch it yet.
-
You must have had one heck of a good cameraman... lol All joking aside, it was a great trip. Had a lot of fun and got to see a beautiful part of the country, even though we worked our tails off! Hope to do it again sometime in the future.

Happy birthday!!!

Thanks guys! Is it turkey season yet? I like winter but two feet of snow and below zero temps are a bit much!
-
Ben - I'm pretty sure I have a couple clips of him texting, will have to go back and look at the footage.
-
Thank you Ben!!! You did a great job of posting for Tim and us bottom feeder camera guys... lol It was a pleasure getting to meet you through the texts and hope to have a chance to meet up with you in person in the near future. Keep in touch and hope all is well... Clint

Have a good time in Vegas, it's definitely a good time but not easy on the wallet... at least most of your expenses are covered for business!

What gives Ben, no love for the hunt with Rodney and I??? lol Just messin with you. Like Ben said, I am thankful for the people that I have met and become friends with from these forums... (even you Ben!) and for the opportunity to go to the Milk River to film Tim on a successful hunt. There are a lot of good people on here that have a lot of common ground and support each other, not only with hunting but with the roller coaster of every day life. I know how you feel about moving to a new state and having a tough time getting anything going for hunting. I moved to Maryland for a couple years right out of college to work in DC, and finding somewhere to hunt without driving several hours was tough. I'm sure you will get it figured out quickly and become successful at it, just promise you will save an elk for me!

Nope, no break... I really do think that Kansas hates Rodney. We hunted hard, just had no control over mother nature. All in all it was a good time and had some good encounters with deer. Rodney is heading back home to Georgia to lick his wounds tomorrow. Our rifle season opens in a couple of weeks so hopefully I can connect on a good buck before then. Thanks to Ben (92xj) for all of his updates and pics he posted and thanks to everyone for following along after Tim left, it's fun to see the comments and have people support us. And congrats again to Tim on a good Kansas buck.

Got rained out for the rest of today. Rain has just passed and the overnight temps will be in the 30's so things are looking a lot better. Will prob pull an all day sit tomorrow as long as the deer are moving. Thanks for the updates and pics Ben, will send more in the morning.

Next stop for live hunt....Kansas! starts now
SE_KSBowhunter replied to Tim Andrus's topic in The Realtree Pro Staff Room
This was the first time that we have ever hunted this piece of property that has been in our family since the early 1900's and the first time in the stand. The part of the field where Tim shot the deer was cleared out by hand by my Grandfather and Great Grandfather many many years ago. Next up is Rodney, trading the camera for a bow and I will be running camera for him... Then it's my turn! Congrats again, Tim!
