  1. Re: Florida Osceola Turkey Hunt! Congrats! Looks like a beautiful place to chase turkeys. I hope to someday get the chance to hunt oceolas in Florida.
  2. Re: 1st turkey with a bow Congrats! Your first with a bow is one you won't forget.
  3. April 1 was the opening day for the Kansas turkey archery season. It is the first year that they have opened it early to archery hunters only. I went out that morning and set up on a timberline at the edge of a cattle pasture that the toms use as a strutting zone. There were several toms gobbling on roost, but at flydown they henned up and went silent. Finally, at mid-morning they began to gobble and move. I had two jakes work into my decoys and had a nice tom hang up just out of range, strutting and gobbling. I didn't end up wit h a bird that morning, but it was still a great hunt. I went out later that evening and set up along a hedge row on a green wheat field. I had a tom answer my call and a few minutes later a hen, two jakes and the tom entered the field about 200 yards down the hedge row. The tom was strutting and gobbling the whole time and kept the jakes away from the hen, then he headed for my decoys. He strutted all the way into my spread and brushed against the jake decoy. At 9 yards, I stuck him and he ran about 25 yards, then fell over. He weighed 24 lbs with a 10-1/2" beard and 1" spurs. It was a great day of hunting and walking out of the field with a bird was just an added bonus. Best of luck to everyone this season and be safe.
  4. Re: texas Rio hunt ... great time, place!!!! Congrats Tim! Sounds like you ended up getting the second bird. Can't wait to see the pics.
  5. Re: Kansas Archery Season I went out in the morning and had a couple of jakes come in to my decoys. I had a tom hang up at 50 yards strutting and gobbling, but he wouldn't commit to within range. Heard a lot of gobbles mid-morning, but the toms were being stubborn. I went out later that evening and had a tom, hen and two jakes come in. The tom strutted right into my decoys and I stuck him. 24 lbs, 10-1/2" beard and 1" spurs. Good luck this weekend, hopefully the cold temps won't ruin your hunt.
  6. Re: Realtree All-Stars of Spring XIV Dvd The Realtree videos are definately at the top. If I'm not mistaken, they are using the Hazel Creek decoys. They are real mounts, and pricey as well. They had several at their booth at the NWTF convention and all were sold. I'll have to stick to my Featherflex until I hit the jackpot.
  7. Re: GlennDel Buck I bought a full rut last summer and now I have become spoiled. I am hoping to pick up another one or two this summer if I can find them on sale again. I also build stands for mine out of 1" square tubing, works a lot better than stakes.
  8. Re: Thanks Tim and Scott! NWTF Convention I will get pictures posted as soon as I can.
  9. Re: From the nwtf convention Saturday Looks like you guys had a good time too!
  10. A big thank you to Tim and Scott for the shirt at the NWTF Convention for being the first forum member to stop at the Realtree booth. My wife and I would also like to say a huge thanks to Tim for spending some time talking with us. We stopped by several times (he was probably tired of seeing us) and he always took time to chat with us. We also got to talk to David Blanton, Michael Waddell, Nick "Deer Tracker" Mundt, Rhett Akins, the Lakosky's and the Kisky's. Everybody at Realtree is a class act, good down to earth people and it shows. Thanks again to Tim and everyone at Realtree!
  11. Re: Whose planning on stopping by the NWTF Convent I will be making the trip from Kansas. My wife and I are going to make a 3 day weekend vacation out of it. We went last year and had a great time.
  12. Re: Get the shakes? The day I don't get the shakes and the adrenaline rush from an approaching tom or buck is the day I quit hunting. It gets me everytime, just have to learn how to overcome and control it.
  13. Re: NWTF grand national My wife and I will be there Friday through Sunday. We went last year for the first time and had a lot of fun. Can't wait for this year, except for the 7 hour drive to get there!
  14. Re: Kansas Hunting Depends on where you will be hunting. The eastern part of the state is packed w/ turkey. It is hard NOT to find them. The best locations are near the rivers and creeks. I'm not familiar with hunting the western part of the state. Like tarbaby said, the early bow season is going to be awesome, hopefully it is a permanent change.
  15. Re: KANSAS Get Together?? I would be interested, depending on when and where. I don't have any ideas at the moment, maybe someone could post what they have done for their get togethers in the past.
  16. Re: Suggestions Please!! Choke, load help Benelli Nova I put a HS Undertaker choke on my Nova and shoot 3-1/2 Win #5 without any problem. I have patterned the Remingtons and Federals as well, but the Winchesters seem to work best. As far as the forend, the allen wrench helps some, but it still rattles a little.
  17. Re: 2006 Saskatchewan Buck Awesome bucks! Makes a guy want to leave Kansas for Canada!
  18. Re: Who\'s getting a turkey mount this spring season ? I just picked up one from last spring, full strut position, so I doubt that I will this year. If my wife gets one this spring, she wants to get it mounted in the flying position. The most I would pay would be 400-450, that is about the going rate around here for a good, quality job.
  19. Re: How many realtree hats do you own? 12 that I can think of. Probably more if I went home and counted them.
  20. This is the 11 pt. I stuck at 9:50 in the morning this past Saturday. Deer movement was a little slow due to the unusual warm temps. I had passed on a decent 8 pt. earlier that morning, second guessing myself after he got out of range. Around 9:45, I decided to do some aggressive rattling. Shortly after I set the horns down, this guy just appeared at 30 yards. I was able to get drawn back and he walked within 20 yards and I stopped him broadside. I watched him go down 30 yards from my stand. He would have been a 12, but he busted his right side crab claw and weighed in at 225 pounds. It was a great ending to an awesome morning in the woods. 21. Re: Kansas!!!!!! whats happening there???? Tim, I sent you a pm. Give me a ring and have a safe trip down! Clint
  22. Re: Kansas!!!!!! whats happening there???? Starting to see some of the bigger bucks cruising now. Had a 160" class buck w/ 3 does at 70 yards this morning in Neosho Co. and a 190" was spotted this week. I have found several new rubs in the past week on both of our properties. As ksdeerhunter03 said, rifle season should be good this year w/ the late rut.
  23. Re: Hunting around a fresh timber job??? Sounds like a good setup to me. We had our timber selective cut a couple of years ago. The deer changed their typical patterns, but remained in the area. Good luck!
  24. Re: Left handed hunters I shoot a bow right handed and a gun left handed (don't ask why). I have not noticed any difference between the two, but never really thought of it either. I suppose with enough practice and mental preparation, you can correct it. But that gets thrown out the window when you have a live animal on target.
  25. Re: 2007 Mathews line?? Just came from the Mathews site. Looks like Friday is the day.
