  1. i've made mistakes in my life, and done things wrong, but i am proud to say that i have never poached or even attempted to......never hunt illegally.....my integrity is one thing i don't want slipping away.....i have known of some really low income farmers that have had to harvest an animal to put meat on the table, i can sympathize with that....but all these deer have horns....not justified.....keep everyone updated.
  2. ya there are elk in omaha, just mounted on peoples walls tough luck getting at them
  3. haha i love it.......it's all a reality.....i want to bring my bow but i know the rifle is the realistic choice! how much to hunt on your yard?? haha jk
  4. take some action brotha......"if you caught him poaching" what if he already did or you never caught them? protect yourself, and the interest of the industry.....
  5. thats the tricky part of the rut....i missed a 140" or better last year and was in a stand where i hadnt seen many deer but my dad had an encounter the weekend before......the only thing i do differently during the rut is hit the trees....stay out longer.....more aggresive.....and PRAY that i will get lucky... bc that's most of it.......this year i hope to get one EARLY when they are patternable....but i know where to hit when the rut rolls around.....this is why i like multiple stands. be versatile......confuse the deer.....put yourself in the deers hoof. what would you expect yourself to do?? and then do the opposite.
  6. well ok i wouldn't say i have all the time on my hands.......tomorrow is never guaranteed......but is it worth paying 5k? is my question??? i know a personal friend who has hunted, Idaho, colorado, arizona, and new mexico with outfitters every year and has not taken a bull yet....so there goes 20k..........now thats 20 years of do it yourself.....is it WORTH it?
  7. and it's hard to bs a bs'r.........the wool is pretty tough to pull over my eyes, i have lived in 11 different places since i graduated high school and met thousands of different people.....and all this is, another person who feels the need to "be an important figure" but that does NOT happen by being deceitful and a liar.....should be banned for trying to make us all look silly and believing this......maybe a little bi polar....convinced in his mind so much that they were "his" deer that he doesn't know any better. BOGUS
  8. the post is titled "my kills from last year" so he is insinuating that the are HIS deer......in south dakota where i hunt, i can actually harvest 5 bucks if i do the math right.......i can get an any deer statewide or one west river and one east river......so there is 2.....a west river rifle deer.......an east river rifle deer.....and a muzzleloader buck.....but judging by his pics.....all on the same day.....different deer.......3 of em....we know that....my guess.....none of them are his.....pry a group that went out and got them. maybe he is the landowner? or farmer? who knows.....or a guide? but they are definetly NOT all his kills. and if they are......someone report him....looks like someone needing a pat on the back and a little attention imo.

    Maximum Range

my bow is a mathews switch back. im pullin 64 lbs....i got sold a bow that is 50-60 instead of 60-70 which i wanted and didnt pay attention to. shoots abotu 275-280fps.......i'd like to be drawing 70 and im thinkin about a new bow because i want the extra weight. shot placement is the key.....not about lbs and fps. but i am comfy shooting a fast bow with higher poundage now. i grew up a little haha. but my bow shoots flat up to 30 yards......i try to keep it at 30. shot a turkey this year at 54 yards and couldnt run him down.....keep in mind if the deer is alert.....if you have to stop it.....or if it's naturally feeding....i want to get a new bow with more pounds and get tuned in to about 70 yards, for antelope, elk, and some praire mule deer.....get good at 20 yards, then try 30....get good.......then try 40 get good.....and keep it under 30......too many factors when shooting a live animal.....#1 thing i dont want to do is wound an animal. i go with gut instinct.
  10. thats icky......it makes me sick to my stomach that ANYONE would do that.......3 years ago when i lived in WI, i caught a guy keeping a pregnant walleye that was in the slot, and there were all these little kids around saying you cant keep that it's in the slot, and his response was who cares it's my biggest walleye EVER! so i played devils advocate.....took a pic of him with the fish, and of his license plate.....called DNR. and what did they do? NOTHING! he was obviously getting it mounted and they wouldn't do a thing about it. just fires me up.....i can't stand poachers and un ethical outdoorsman/women. not how i was raised....giving everyone a BAD name.
  11. reminds me of a post that i just made new fords are having major issues........i'm hearing NOTHING good about them. and my uncle just bought one too :S so, once his comes in i will hear it straight from the horses mouth........dodges....nice truck......crappy trannys....where im from a guy dropped his tranny in a 3500 mega cab diesel and his sons 1500 crew cab hemi......i believe all that is covered in the warranty, but im not sure....so after all the feedback on my post. i would actually say CHEVY! believe it or not. it's the ONLY diesel that NOBODY bashes on....go to forums or you tube and everyone bashes ford and dodge but nobody really bashing chevy.....so i am lookin for into it on the chevy side......my old man has owned ford all his life and ran into some problems until he recently bought a new one......doesnt put many miles on it beings he has a work truck....my grandpa same boat but with chevy and has not had ANY problems...im going to try something NEW and DIFFERENT
  12. i think there is something out there called a little john or a big john or something, that you can pee into and seal it back up and keep it in a seperate compartment on your hunting backpack. thats what i am going to get for this fall. just going to have to make sure you don't eat anything the day before that is going to cause your bowels to move. thats where the trouble comes

    Seat Belts

i've been in states that have seatbelt laws, but not helmet laws, and states with helmet laws but not seatbelt laws......its personal preference.....i catch myself not wearing it in town as much as i should. but on the highway or interstate, definetly a good idea....and about bikers not having to wear a helmet or having to....if you are really going to have a helmet law. might as well be a full face helmet.....a little half shell going 75 on the interstate and wrecking? MIGHT save your life, but your face is going to be pretty well mangled. ...i say let the bikers decide...people specifically DO NOT drive through nebraska on the way to strugis bc of the helmet law......i know of many who will go out of the way to avoid it.
  14. i could have pry posted this in big game and exotics but i figured i would get more feedback in the lounge....my cousin and i are looking into an elk hunt next year....does anyone know of any state ground in colorado, wyoming, or montana that has a good success rate on a decent bull? dont really feel like spending 5 grand at an outfitter....has anyone ever hunted public ground in any of these states for elk??? just trying to get some feedback on which state and what areas of that state would be good for a public hunt....can anyone make a suggestion or two? thanks
  15. hes going to net lower, lots of deductions......pry closer to 135-140...
  16. mmmm yah we finally did our own this year thanks to FINN, and well ahh yah, worth every penny, which was a penny on the dollar compared to something store bought.......and the deer have been NAILING it!!!!! filled over half a 55 gallon drum for 70$. thanks!
  17. i have a switchback as well, and it works well.......try it out.....at least ask the pro at the shop you are at......return policy anywhere should not give you any headaches
  18. good l uck i love those antelope......couple years back my cousin shot one that went 16" i tell ya what though, i just look forward to the trip every year the middle of nowhere......stars, clear skies....oh man....i love it.....gobbler you ever stop at the bens ash monument?

    Cows!

i've been hunting around cattle for about 4 years now.........they head down into the pasture until late october....BOOO.......they've trampled the ground, in some areas good, others bad......... i hunt elsewhere when they are around....bc in my experience, the area i hunt the deer WILL NOT come around. after the cattle are out the deer get back to their normal trails.....some little thing will spook the cattle and you have the whole herd trampeling all over the place....to be honest, i rather not have them there. but there is nothing i can do about the situation so i deal with it.....i usually hunt the food source until the cattle are gone, and then once late october rolls around i hit the trees up.....where i antelope hunt, they definetly mingle together, but the deer. not so much. just my experience.
  21. touche, one of the guys that helped me get my bow sighted in up to 50 yards back in south dakota, said even though you punch the trigger, i wouldnt do a thing to change it, because your bow is shooting better than most peoples.
  22. are you sure that is the right link?? hahaha........im pretty sure the one i shoot now is a true fire....i will have to look into getting some of that practice in before the season starts.......i shoot fine now and my bow seems to respond to it....and my arrows always enter straight, sometimes a little off, im just concearned when i get the chance to hunt elk or bigger game with my bow that, that little slip up is going to cause the difference between a harvested animal and a wounded one...
  23. anyone else have this problem? i adapted it when i first started shooting a bigger bow, got my first one at 12 shot it great, then next year my dad bought me a new one with a little too many FPS and i was a late bloomer and i started punching the trigger.....now it's just a habit.doesn't really effect my shooting "that" much. i still shoot good enough to kill. any special cures, drinks, food, colognes, remedies that help?? im not sure of the exact name of the this particular release, but lee lakosky uses one and so does david blanton....anyone use that particular kind and does that help??? it's difficult for me to break that pattern, it is just "natural" to me........maybe i need to retrain my muscles and create a new muscle memory. any tips?
  24. i've been looking on ebay and autotrader, and it seems like there are a lot more ford and dodge diesels for sale than chevy. maybe this is telling me that nobody wants to get rid of their chevy also been watching some videos on youtube, and it sure seems like there is a heated debate between cummins and powerstroke and they both bash eachother, but nobody really says much about the duramax.....is it the silent assasin?
