  1. Re: A couple of neat bucks i dont know if you noticed this but the first buck looks to have a double throat patch, thats pretty rare where i'm from. both are real nice bucks.
  2. Re: Show me your bow!!!! here are a couple of mine. this bow is actually for sale
  3. Re: Northeast Picture book (short story of Fall 20 thanks i am truely blessed, also in the fact that i can share these great experiences with my friends and family. The big 10 pointer was taken in upstate NY and was 185lbs dressed. The MA 9 opinter was 180lbs dressed.
  4. Re: Northeast Picture book (short story of Fall 2005) all in all i am very grateful of mother nature for providing me with such great experiences this fall, i hope you all had as good a year as i did... but i still wouldn't trade the biggest buck in the world for those cold crisp mornings, and the comradre of my hunting buddies......... thanks for letting me spout off guys!
  5. Re: Northeast Picture book (short story of Fall 2005) Eventually this lovely season came to a close, but brought on the brother hood and peak rut of the gun season. It was very fruitful and proved successful for my little brother (17) who got this monster opening day his 5th buck, first with a gun my father also scored on a 4 point with a broken leg and a 2.5y/o 6 point with bad genetics.... What an amazing year in upstate Ny. but it wasn't over for em, after taking my fill of does, i figured i would try my luck at the Massachusettes deer season, which provided my first MA buck.. a decent 2.5 y/o 9 point.
  6. Re: Northeast Picture book (short story of Fall 2005) Which eventually lead to my first longbow Harvest which was a delicious tasting 4 point, i usually wait for an older buck, but this one had my blood pumping and i cannot deny that!!!.
  7. I liked what i saw on another thread so i figured i would try one as well... this first pic is of me and my 2 good friends after a first harvest with a longbow, running shot at 10 yards. That was early season... which soon lead to frost mornings and the tip of the rut.and that undenyable smell of dead leaves and acorns that make me feel at home.
  8. Re: Fellow NY\'s - Do you favor antler restrictions I feel that some people are just obsessed with shooting a deer that has testicles!!.. honestly, people are more proud of shooting a spike than a 3 year old doe.. i dont understnad sometimes. I shoudln;t say more proud, every single deer is a trophy and every hunter should eb proud of every deer harvested. However someone stated that they wanted people who practice QDM to be honest. I want the honest answer as to why people would rather shoot a spike horn than a doe if they had the proper permits?.
  9. Re: Fellow NY\'s - Do you favor antler restrictions?? I persoanlly wouldn't mind antler restrictions, they give out doe tags for bowhunting and / or muzzleloader. .. I myself feel that it is up to the hunter, i really dont enjoy shooting immature deer, however to harvest a 2.5 year old doe, or buck is a real accomplishment in my book, and it gets my heart pumping, if my heart doesn;t thump i dont shoot. On our 180 acres this year our group of hunters made a rule of 6 points or better, we passed on 4's spikes, 5's and such. i know some of them got shot, but next year thos 3-4 bucks that made it will be more mature and that much more of a challenge. i use the shotgun for horns, bow and muzzle loader for meat,
  10. Re: Arrow Wrapps do they change......? "they have no effect"........That is true, most of teh time, but like i said, if you are on the border of being over spined it can, especially with reflective wraps. They (7" wraps) weigh in at 25.3 grains. Over spined means your arrow is too stiff, adding weight to the back of an arrow increases the spine. ...you should be fine if you equiptment is tuned properly, but they CAN effect teh flight if you are on the edge.
  11. Re: Arrow Wrapps do they change......? not really, but you should wrap your hunting arrows and your practice arrows alike. 7" wraps can add up to about 10 grains of weight to the back end of teh arrow, it shouldn't effect teh arrow flight unless you are on the brink of being overspined. the aded weight will make you over spined.... i shoot for and use Arrowwraps unlimited. great product and easy to use.
  12. Re: Lightfield Slugs no tehy are supposed to stay in 1 piece, that way less meat is destroyed
  13. Re: Would you keep this buck? did you shoot this deer with a muzzleloader 3 times....?.. the season has been over unless its muzzleloader since the 11th
  14. Re: Lightfield Slugs They are great performers in accuracy, i was jsut thrown back on the customer service and the fragmenting.

    Scarry story

Re: Scarry story I use poplar dowels myself 3/8" from Ace, i spine them but a nut on them, some old fletchings and kill soem squirrels and rabbits.. they work great out of my longbow....... a dowel is the same as a wooden shaft, as long as you spine it.... i dont see what teh big deal is unless he is using a compound
  16. Re: Lightfield Slugs I understand that, however i would at least expect an apology, or some sort of answer other than to be ignored, i offered to send them pieces of the bullet and pictures. however i would not want one of my employees to treat a customer this way... Not only that but why would they be defensive right away, i first explained that i have had great success using their ammo in the past.
  17. Re: Lightfield Slugs They kind of blew me off, and asked for the lot number off of the box, the problem was i dont keep empty boxes after i shoot the shells. I told him that, he said basically " too bad sorry cant help without lot #".. didn't offer apology or to see the bits of bullett that i saved or anything, basically just blew me off. Then stopped replying to my e-mails.
  18. Re: Good slugs for gun? I have found that Lightfields are extremely accurate out of my Remington 1100, however for accuracy over distance i would have ot go with Winchester platinum tips...... the longest shots i have ever made with a shotgun were with these slugs
  19. Re: Lightfield Slugs That is typical from what i used to experience, but this year, 3 of the 5 deer ( teh only 3 i shot with lightfields before switching) it looked like a fragment grenade went off inside, i Was using the 2 3/4" hybrid exp. and also the low recoil ones., i myself have only had a couple pass through, they do have knockdown power, but at what price. I might try them again next year but i think it is the Win. Platinums for me this year
  20. Re: Lightfield Slugs They are good slugs and are great with accuracy, i will show you guys some pics later when i can find them of a perfectly mushroomed slug of theirs from 2 years agod, it went through both shoulder blades, This year it is a different story, Needless to say thier PR people need some work.
  21. Re: how r teh MA hunters doin this year i am suprised of the size of the deer in MA, this buck was post rut, he was so run down his spine was sticking out, and he stillw ent 180
  22. Re: Lightfield Slugs i didn't claim they failed did I. PS read the thread, HIT RIB, then it shatered and went every where, including some in the tenderloin. And i would never take a neck shot on a deer, if people want to that is their perogative, i personaly wont......... Oh and they werent instant deaths.... they still ran a little ways. Which is unlike the lightfields i have been using for 5 years, i would probably be still using them if it wasn't for there reply.
  23. Re: how r teh MA hunters doin this year Thank you, this is the first year i have ever hunted MA even though i have lived in Boston for over 1 year, i got him in sturbridge on a small patch of WMA, he was running a doe pretty hard when i got him.
  24. I had some good luck on the opener been out 1 time other than that saw a bunch of rubs but no brown.... it was a 9 pointer 19 3/8" spread and 180lbs.
  25. I have been using lightfield slugs for quite some time now, and for the most part have had some great success with them. However this year ( i am a meat hunter) i have noticed on 3 of the deer i shot, the bullet went into roughly 30-40 pieces once it hit rib, ruining a substantial portion of meat, roughly 1 1/2 shoulders per deer. I wrote and email regarding this problem to lightfield, needless to say i got a litle less than desired answer, i WILL NOT be using them again. I was curious if anyone else had had similar problems.
