Re: What\'s the wildest turkey \"Rumor?\" well i would not say they are stupid, they are sub-intelligent, however ...which is smarter in the woods than you and I

Re: What\'s the wildest turkey \"Rumor?\" well then i guess i'm jsut a bad hunter....b/c to em its a challenge to call one in, or else i wouldn't do it:)
-
Re: What\'s the wildest turkey \"Rumor?\" hahah teh ebst rumor that i have heard abotu turkeys................."turkeys are stupid.........tehy should be easy to shoot"....hahahah

Re: NY state turkey hunters 2 weeks ago ...hahaha, i was out thsi weekend locating large groups, checking roosting areas:)

Re: Anybody out there ever yep.....I do it every year. I have custom calls made for me without the vinyl cover, so i basically have the aluminum frame and the reed in my mouth. i run 3 calls at a wack, and sometimes, i catch and edge switching them, its not bad...jsut a scratch....

Re: Couldn\'t believe it... about as hard as shooting a goose in the head, they are tough birds too.... for me i love shooting them on the ground.i'm just saying that it happens and is fine, unless you shoot them flying out fo the roost.........true story, i had a client that had never shot a turkey before, had a nice longbeard come in and out of now where a Coyote broke for the bird, bird flew right at us, the guy made 1 clean shot dropped teh bird right in front of us. Nice bird 19.5lbs 9.5" beard 3/4" spurs.... it was a nice shot too...i practice flying shots all year long and honestly to me a super full chock makes those flying head shots easier, and less likley to wound with flyer pellets

Re: Couldn\'t believe it... It also dpends on how comfortable youa re with it, some people dissagree with running shots on deer. ethics are not what you do when people are watching, its what decisions you make when you are by yourself......I personally practice and chose to shoot at a flying turkey if the situation calls for it, and running deer if the situation calls for it to be a clean safe kill.

Re: Couldn\'t believe it... I know its not illegal here, i know guys who do turkey drives in the fall and shoot almost all of their birds in flight. its a personal choice, and to me is no more un-ethical than duck hunting, it does make it harder though
-
Re: Couldn\'t believe it... I personally see no probelm with it, you shoot at geese when they are flying, i dont take crazy 50+ yard flying shots at them but if sombody misses or i'm going for double i have no problem at shooting flying bird......I've actually killed quite a few on the wing, and have wounded 0.

Re: I wanna new turkey gun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ahhh..... i see... well since it is illegal where i hunt to shoot birds witha rifle i wonttry it but i can only imagine how hard, they seem to always be moving

Re: I wanna new turkey gun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i really like my benelli...it has a longer stock, i am a little larger of a fella so it fits me better.. i personally cracke my nose open with my old mossberg 500 too many times. Mossbergs are great. America took them to Vietnam with them, however i believe that nowadays the United states Special forces use Benelli..both are very sturdy workhorse guns..... WV... yes it is very hard to hit a turkey with a rifle, my only concern would be meat damage.........Also ... just curious.. not attacking.. why would you pick the name WVPOACHER?...

Re: Mouth Calls Primos or homemade for me. I cant stand teh H.S. strut flex fit. awful.. i use teh double frame Primos and a few others, i usually run about 3 in my mouth at a time and switch them to sound like a flock of hens. Raspy old hen for roost talk, Double frame for cutting and raspy yelping, and quad D for those sweet yelp series.

Re: I wanna new turkey gun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amo benelli Nova under 300$ takes 3.5"-2.75" shells and is a very dependable tight shooting gun and the barrel length options are great

Re: Fellow NY\'s - Do you favor antler restrictions Doc, I for one enjoy your well thought-out and intelligent responses. This discussion is actualy going really well, No name calling or anything liek that ( which i have seen on other sites).. Doc, however we dissagree i still enjoy your posts......Now back to the topic at hand.... I dont feel that AR's are the solution, however i feel it would be better than what we have.. Maybe in those areas were the deer herds are decimated go for 1 or 2 years of 1 buck only and no does (except with bow or muzzleloader)... i'm not sure............I do agree that AR's cannot solve all of the problems, but it will make the problem a little better i feel. -

Re: Fellow NY\'s - Do you favor antler restrictions Doc, I understand what you are saying but sometimes it doesn;t make sense. OK... more does less bucks equals more bucks having ot bread too many does... getting to worn and not making it through the winter. in my area i see roughly 15-20 does a day and roughly 2 bucks a week......... i feel in areas like this the does need thinning and the bucks need to be given a brea.....in other areas, the herds need a break in general, best basic way to do this. ... Re: Fellow NY\'s - Do you favor antler restrictions Well said let em grow..... Doc If there are NO deer in the first place, what are they gonna do to keep the hunters hunting. let them decimate the herd even more? -

Re: Fellow NY\'s - Do you favor antler restrictions The only drawback i could see from AR's in MY area would be for teh young hunters, Personally i would not mind AR's applying to people over the age of 17, i too believe its crucial for our younger hunters to have success. -

Re: Fellow NY\'s - Do you favor antler restrictions Wow i just realized how poorly my spelling is, I apologize, i have dyslexia and is hard for me to type..sorry... i'm really not that un-intelligent Doc, I'm not saying it is a cureall, and i'm not saying it should eb statewide, but i do think it wil be better than what we have, mature deer. .... and the primary objections are that it isn't necessary in illinois..... the attitudes there are different for sure towards harvesting mature deer........honestly i feel that too many people are looking for excuses to just shoot whatever moves in the woods..... -

Re: Fellow NY\'s - Do you favor antler restrictions NYbuck.....perfect post, i couldn't agree with you more. DOC NY has teh genetics and the right soil and agriculter. I was at my taxidermist he had an array of real nice 1.5-2.5 yo deer that were getting mounted. One that comes to mind was a 14 yo boys that he got with a bow, it was an 11pointer with a 16" spread, the deer weight 98lbs!!!!!...... -
Re: Calling contests... go for it, i like to make sure i hit all aspects of calling, Fly down, Kee Kee run, Pur ,put, Cut, and yelp baby.

Fellow NY's - Do you favor antler restrictions??

Re: Fellow NY\'s - Do you favor antler restrictions ok then doc, what do you propose, ... as you have read in that topic most people in Il that commented practice some sort of QDM... i know very few NY hunters that Practice QDM...... In a wonderful world, there would be a law saying you cannot shoot a deer under the age of 3. But how many people do you know that can properly age a deer, or guess an accurate spread. ?....AR's are becaseu the majority of hunters can count... and can be used across the board with fewer mistakes than going by age.
