  1. I called by first gobbler in last year with a Knight & Hale Old Yeller slate call. I just bought an HS Strut Field Champion and it sounds great. No chalk necessary, waterproof and it has a silencer button on it. It sounded great and I am still a rookie so I would recommend this for a 'beginner'.
  2. I finally ordered the Buck Omni-Hunter in Realtree from Bass Pro and got it today. It seems like a great knife! It has a nice thick blade on the back, razor sharp on the other side, good balance and a real nice feel to it. Came with a Realtree sheath with a snap closure. Can't wait to try it! Maybe in Turkey season I hope!
  3. A friend of mine called yesterday and told me had machined the Weaver mounts with new slots and the scope fits perfect. I can't wait to try it!
  4. Welcome to the forum! Glad to have you on board! Ask a lot of questions-we all have a lot to learn!
  5. Congrats to your buddy! What do those deer feed on?
  6. Congratulations! Great job!!

    First Doe!!

    Congrats! Nice job!
  8. Sorry about the way it ended but he has a great attitude about it. Must have had a good teacher! Good luck in turkey season! I called in my first gobbler last year. It was just like on TV and here he comes, walks around the decoys all strutted out. I wait, I'm calm, I shoot and miss! Missed a second time too because he didn't know which way the shot came from. Disappointed? Big time but blessed because of the experience! It was awesome, I just need to work on not shooting over the back of him! Sometimes good hunts don't always mean game down. Glad you had a good time with your son in the woods though.
  9. Congrats! Great way to end the season!
  10. My guess is that the small bowshops just can't carry everything, just what they know that works. They generally will have what you need, not necessarily what you want. I guess that's why Cabela's, Bass Pro and Gander Mtn. does so well. Then the smaller bowshops might not want to work on it for you because you didn't buy it from them. I would rather buy it form the bowshop to establish that relationship with them.
  11. I agree, you're hunting in the right place to get those kind of deer (where did you say that was? just kidding!) but I'll tell you this...they didn't drop dead by themselves! Great job!
  12. Sorry about the day you had. That was tough from the beginning to the end. Hopefully things will turn around for you and I'm sure they will. I hope you really smoke a monster! About the girlfriend, I've had that happen in the past (Been married now for 5 1/2 years to the most beautiful woman!) but they alwyas turned out to be blessings in disguise. Better find out now than later that she "needs space". But if it's meant to be , it will. Hang in there! Sometimes the best things in life happen when we least expect it! Let us know how you make out with the bucks!

Congrats! Sounds like you have a great spot!!
  14. Congratulations on finding her! Patience and persistence are always good traits in following a wounded deer. Great job!
  15. Same here. My buddy and I had pictures of bucks but never in the daylight and never that one. In fact, I started hunting mid-Sept. and that's the first buck I've seen. It is pretty cool to have before and after pictures though. Modern technology...what would we do without it?
  16. Here is the 'after' picture!! I had quite a few pics of him the week before but I didn't know he was around until after I got him and checked the camera that evening.
  17. Congratulations to your son!! Tell him nice job! You must be very proud of him and he obviously had a very good teacher! Congrats to you both!
  18. Congratulations to you and your family!!!
  19. Here is a picture of the buck the week before I killed him on opening day. This was taken with my Moultrie Trail Camera. See the post "Buck Down" for the 'after' picture.
  20. Yes, it felt good to connect with a buck again but also humbling for the year. I'm still amazed about the buck! This past season wil always hold some very special memories.
  21. Congratulations on the great buck! Welcome to Realtree!!! Hope to hear more from you!
  22. I got my HS Strut vest from Dunhams Sporting Goods, can't wait to try it!!
  23. I forgot to post a picture of the buck the week before rifle season while he was still alive on my trail camera!
  24. Good luck, all it takes is the snap of a twig and the hunt is on! Actually, be careful, the big ones can sneak by without the snap! Let us know what happens!
