Fred, Congrats to you too on a great season! I went out yesterday and took my stand down and reflected on the season and the memories. Had one last cup of coffee (which I really enjoy in the woods!)and headed for home. I'm thankful for the opportunities I've had this year!

I have a BSA Red Dot scope that a friend of mine bought for me. I wanted to mount it on a Mossbeg 835 shotgun so I bought the bracket but it wouldn't fit. I went to Gander Mtn today and the man in firearms said that scope would not fit that shotgun. He said I could exchange it for another but I didn't buy it nor did I have the receipt. What red dot scope will fit the 835?

I did put the time in, about every Saturday from mid-September to last Saturday. Early season ususally just hunt in the mornings and go back in the evening. My wife is great about my hunting. She knows my passion for hunting and the outdoors and I can't say enough about her. The weather in that picture was 17 degrees! A quick story about the hunt...about 7:40 three deer walked across the hillside behind me. A doe and two smaller ones. About 15 minutes later they come running back so I stand up and turn around and lay the gun down on my seat (Gorilla hang-on) and start working the TruTalker, hoping maybe a buck is chasing her. About 5 minutes later I hear a deer running up the hill towards my stand behind me, as I am now facing uphill. I thought, that's great, I sit for hours watching where I think the deer will come (other days) and I turn around once and wham, I'm busted. I turned my head real slow and saw the deer about 25 yards from my stand. I couldn't tell what it was but it had stopped so I turned real slow and saw the antlers. He was looking downhill so I picked up the gun real slow and turned and put the crosshairs on him and he was looking at me. I squeezed the trigger and he ran and I was expecting hime to drop but he kept running about 30 yards and stopped again. I missed the first shot! How? Who knows? The second shot however was a keeper! I was really excited! Later my buddy told me there was 3 scrapes along the creek bottom close to my stand and I had several smaller bucks on my camera the week prior. He was behind me up the hill in the morning and said when I shot, 11 does took off over the hill. So I figure (speculation) that maybe he was checking his scrapes, heard the grunt, knew there was does in the area (and a few bucks) and decided to check it out. But he was down and I am a blessed man in many ways!

Morrell Yellow Jacket Broadhead Target.
BearClaw replied to woodsman2230's topic in Hunting Equipment
Quite the contrary. I don't know what it is made of but the fieldpoints will be extremely hard to pull out. It's great for broadheads and that's the one I use and it holds up great with the broadheads. But believe me, fieldpoints will feel like they got superglued in the target! If you're looking for a good broadhead target, this is it! -
This year I did something I've never done, I got a doe in archery, a buck in rifle and a doe in muzzleloader! A grandslam of sorts! I have been very blessed this year! This buck came in to the TruTalker grunt call and came charging up the hill toward my stand. My first buck since 2001! He had 4 pts on one side and two plus some stumps on the other so we'll call him a 6 pt.

What is the best but reasonably priced gutting knife that you use, the kind with the 'hook' blade. I've been looking at the Puma combo and the Buckmaster brand in the Sportsman's Guide. Your thoughts?

I was in my stand at 6:30AM last Saturday on our lst day of muzzleloader. I didn't see a deer until almost quitting time. That's over 9 hours of seeing the same trees! They move a lot at dusk in the woods. I was able to harvest a doe just before the curtain closed on the season! Even when you love it, it get a little discouraging when you hunt an area that you know there are deer and you wonder where they all went!

Unfortunately, this sometimes happens. But that's why Realtree's slogan is Family, Friends and the Outdoors! Time spent in the field with family and friends and the memories is priceless. Yes, it's disappointing but the 'kill' isn't the only reason we go. There were a number of years when I came up empty but I kept going back. It's changed now but I'm still humbled when I can harvest a deer. Good luck with the coyotes and the turkey hunting. I tell people.."You gotta love it!"

Congratulations! Great buck and good work on looking for him!

I have two rechargeable batteries that I use. I generally change them every two weeks even when it's cold outside and they seem to hold up good even in the cold. (32 and below). I use the Moultrie rechargeable batteries. Seems to work for me although I have read before where these cameras do eat batteries.

I have the same camera and have not had any real problems. The SD card is kind of tricky to 'click' in sometimes. Awhile back I went to change out the battery and card and saw that the card wasn't in. It was when I left it or so I thought. You just have to be sure that it's clicked in good. And of course, I didn't have any pictures except I'm sure internally (which I haven't checked yet) As far as downloading, I take the card home and put it in my digital camera and download from there to the computer. I use one of those USB cables that came with the camera and that seems to work for me. Other than that, I've been real pleased with the camera. It takes a minute for the picture to snap but I put out corn and salt blocks to get the pictures. (legal on private ground here in Maryland). It takes good pictures and even got the buck while he was still alive that I took on opening day here. Hope that helps, if not, I'll try again. Just let me know!

Just found this post-great buck!! Congratulations!

Those carolers at the restaurant are really funny! Love to watch the movie, it's a tradition for me! But not as much as watching Jeremiah Johnson!

Merry Christmas to you too! Have a great day!

Just want to say to eryone here on the forum..."Have a very Merry and blessed Christmas! Have a great day with your families and friends! And I know it's a cliche, but don't forget the real reason for the season. Amidst the hustle and bustle of today, take a few moments and think about what happened in the stable in Bethlehem and the impact it has had not only in the world, but in your world, in you heart and life." Have a wonderful holiday season!

Tell your husband congrats on a nice buck!

I hear you all. We have two more Saturday's of muzzleloading so we still have some time. It will be sad though. Hunting is about as Realtree says, Family, Friends and the Outdoors and that's what it reall is all about. The kill is like the gravy on the potatoes. It's time to get out your albums of the pictures of the deer you may have killed or reflect on the memories of the hunt, the laughter with friends, the stories of the ones that got missed. We tell the same stories over and over don't we? Time to take a trip to Gander Mountain, Cabela's or Bass Pro (or others) and just walk down the isles and look and see what might give us the edge next year. I went to Dunham's last night and bought a turkey hunting vest. (Needed my fix!) It's a great sport and we have a great heritage and it's great to be able to share it all with everyone here on the forums too. You're part of the 'Friends' of Reltree's slogan. Thanks for being a great group of friendS!

Thanks for the tips! I've always used just the hot water from the tap but never thought of boiling water. Tried it Saturday and while I only hunted in the morning, when I got home it was still steamin'!
