  1. First off i shot a doe about 2 weeks ago and then this morning i went out big buck huntin and it was real cold and i started freakin coughin about 6:30. At 7:00 two yotes came by and darn if i didnt miss both of em well i knocked another arrow and sat down and was watchin both them yotes behind me and i look in front and here comes a deer about 100 yards out walkin right toward me. I told myself then that if it was a doe i was gonna take her well it got about 20 yards and i could see it was a little spike with about 2 inch spikes. He got in front of me and i let him hve it at 8 yards. He ran about 20 yards and stopped and went down. I gotta go get him right now if i can find some batteries for my camera ill post pics here in a lil bit.
  2. From what ive seen the bucks are breakin up real good. I saw a 2 nice bucks sparring the other day and after they spared the bigger of the 2 chased the other one off. And ive been finding quite a few rubs already so goin pretty good so far.
  3. To one of my favorite stands this morning. I killed a doe and my first bow buck out of it last year. I've been seein alot of deer out of this stand the couple times i hunted in the evenings but none of em were close enuff. Maybe they're comin through there where my stand is at in the mornings. Im headin out right now. Ill let everyone know how it went when i get back home. wish me luck
  4. If he comes out to the field again pay attention to where he comes out and if u have a climber move in on him the next day
  5. I Havent been going much in the evenings but the mornings arent to bad if u can stand the skeeters.
  6. My cousin and I went out yesterday morning. This is his first year bowhunting and we didnt see any deer But we both seen some yotes. He couldnt go hunting yesterday evening so I went to the stand I killed my first buck out of last year. At 6:00 I saw my first four deer. Two fawns and two does came out of the woods about 70 yards from me into the corn field. Then Another doe and fawn came out about the same spot. Im huntin a little woods between two gravel roads and theres a huge corn field behind me and a big set a woods about 1000 yards behind me and another big set of woods about 500 yards to my left. Well after that 8 more does and fawns came out of the woods to my left. I was watchin these does and the other does that came out of the woods i was in with my binocs and I saw some more deer come out to the field from the woods to the left and they were all four bucks one was a big buck and It looked like they were gonna cross into the woods where i was at but about 100 yards from me. Well I got down quietly and crawled down the corn field and got set up where i thought they were gonna come in. I was a little wrong they crossed the road about 50 yards from me and I couldnt get a shot. Im goin to the same spot this evening and Ill let everyone know how it goes.
  7. I would have to say either swith heads or if its doin this everytime set ur sight to correct the drop.
  8. I dont have one myself I use a tru-talker. But I left my deer call one day and my grandpas buck growl was in the truck and I took it. I had watched the video and everything with my grandpa when he got the call so i used the growl with some rattling and called up numerous bucks. Quite a few were small but the biggest was a huge 12 point but he never got close enuff for the shot
  9. my first bow kill was a yearling doe at 7 yards I was sittin on the ground at the base of a tree and she came in right behind me and gave me a perfect broadside shot hit her in the heart and she ran about 10 yards
  10. I keep all my clothes outside in a rubbermaid after I wash them in special scent free detergent. I always spray down with scent away before i go to my stand and i spray coon pee on my boots.
  11. Went out this morning to one of my favorite squirrel huntin spots. I couldve shot at least 15 and thats not countin the ones i saw jumpin around off the four wheeler path i was on. I got dropped at where the four wheeler path comes out to the road about a 1 1/2 miles from my house. I killed my limit of 5 here in IL about 1/4 of a mile into the woods. I kept huntin and seen a bunch more.I wont be able to go squirrel huntin again til wed. morn and i think i should be able to get my limit again. It was a blast. Any1 else killin any squirrels this year?
  12. It's actually not public land one of my good friends uncle's own the thicket and the little grassy open area where we were set up and I have permission to hunt on his land. Also all the doves I've been seein have been scattered to but we got lucky and found a spot where they were goin to roost. Me and my buddy are suppose to hunt there this evening but who knows they may not even be there by now.
  13. Me an my buddy went out dove huntin on saturday to a field we've killed quite a few out of this year and they have pretty well stopped flyin in there. We left early cuzz we wasnt seein many doves I had killed 2 and he hadnt killed any. We decided to go ride around and look for deer and we were driving past a little briar thicket with a bunch of little trees and we saw about 50 doves come in and light in the trees. We decided to park and get out and hunt this little open area between the thicket and the woods and in about 30 minutes we had both killed our limit i killed 13 and my buddy killed 15 we saw about 500 doves light in.in just like 30 minutesand we could hear doves all out through the thicket when we first got out so there was already a bunch there. I think were gonna go back there this evening so ill post again and let everyone know how we did.

  15. I use muzzy 3 blade 100 grain heads. I've killed 7 deer with these braodheads and got awsome blood everytime. Plus muzzy's are truly are bad to the bone I shot my first buck last year with my bow and I hit him at about 35 yards in the shoulder and the broadhead just busted through the bone..I saw that deer when he laid down to die.. I.M.O. Muzzy's are #1

  19. Re: How High? We make alot of homemade lock ons that my g-pa welds together and we put them up about 15-18 ft. I can hunt out of them no problem now that i kinda got over my fear of heights. But with my climber when i first started usin it i was scared of it eventho i had my safety harness i only went up between 10 and 12 ft. i killed a few deer but i also got seen quite a bit. now that im used to my climber i go up at least 20 ft. if the tree will let me but no lower than 15 ft.
  20. Re: ILLINOIS SO FAR? Still havent found the other side of that monster but i found a big nine point 4/5 i was walkin in the hills and i knew where a beddin area was i didnt hunt this woods all year last season but as i got about 50 yards from where i thought the beddin area was gonna be i found 24 old rubs from 06 and they were on big cedar trees they were just shredded i walked on down and soon as i came over the hill to the thicket i found both sides layin right beside each other he had a big rack in 06 he should be a monster this year and i walked on down by the corn field and found one side with 4 points on it and it was another big one.
  21. Re: ILLINOIS SO FAR? I found 1 side of a buck i seen during 06 bow season it has 7 points on this side and i measured the base it was 5 1/2 inches freakin huge. This is the only shed ive found most of the bucks i been seein here in southern il. still have both sides. Im goin back out this weekend to look in the same woods i really wanna find the other side to that rack so i can see what hed score. Im sure the other side has either 11 or 12 points on it. I just couldnt get him close enough during season. Man hes a monster.
  22. My cousin lives about 45 minutes away from me out in the country. He has a big 200 and somethin acre woods behind his house. There is a big cornfield directly behind his house it runs for about 300 yards before it hits the woods.I went over to his house the day before yesterday and he told me about this buck hes been seein. He told me he had seen it 3 times in the field behind his house and he had looked at it through the binocs and he said he could count 29 points. I told him he was full of it. That evening about 4:15 there was 38 deer out in the cornfield NO MONSTERS, there were a few nice bucks out there tho. I ended up stayin at his house that night and yesterday mornin he woke me up at 6:45am and told me to get my butt to the back porch the biggun was in the field. I got up still half asleep and walked to the back porch and i woke up as soon as i stepped outside. My cousin already had his binocs around his neck and i looked through em i counted 27 points and there were more i couldnt count all of em. It looked like a bush was growin on top of his head. I got my map out to see who owned the woods. There are 276 acres of woods there and the only thing that i cant hunt on is the field the woods belongs to the national forest. I talked to the owner of the field yesterday and he gave me permission to cross it to get to the woods. I have already filled my buck tag so i cant hunt that monster this season, but as soon as october rolls back around im takin a week and stayin at my cousins house. Im goin up there this weekend to try and get a better look at him and to fill my doe tag. Season goes out the 11th so around june im gonna put some trail cams up in there. I walked though there yesterday as quiet aS i could and i didnt see any deer stands or anything in there its at least 30 miles from any houses exept my cousins and his neighbors and neither of them bowhunt. So if that big boys in there next year and i can get a shot and make it. ITS IN THE RECORD BOOKS. Ive seen pictures of the illinois state racord non-typical and this buck looks bigger than him hes the biggest buck i have ever seen NO BS im gonna hunt him next year. I hope hes still in that area.
  23. Re: Bowhunters you need to read this I would have to say it was meant to be a joke. Whether you find it funny or not that is what it was meant to be.I myself do not think that this will change anyones opinion on bowhunting. If you truly love bowhunting it would take alot to change your mind right.....Some little cartoon like this is gonna make anyone who likes or loves bowhunting and archery stop liking it.And im sure the people who dislike bowhunting and archery arent gonna hate it anymore after this cartoon. I say everyone who is over reacting just needs to cool off and lighten up And realise that this cartoon was drawn as a joke.
  24. Re: First buck with a bow I was gonna ask someone I dont have any idea how to post pictures i was wonderin if i sent a few pics to someone by email or somethin if they could post them on here for me or explain to me how to do it. David Live life Hunt hard
  25. Re: First buck with a bow [ QUOTE ] Your story brings up something I was thinking about. The fear of hitting the shoulder. "But i made a good shot that muzzy went through one shoulder blade breakin through bones and everything and got stuck in the other. " The Muzzy tip looks like it would blast through bone no problem, as it did. What is the pound pull on your bow? Great job on the Buck. I have not taken a deer with a bow yet. Please let me know if I am off the mark about hitting the shoulder. I understand shooting at a steep downward angle could cause the arrow to deflect off the shoulder bone. I am thinking about a level 30 yard shot with 60 lbs of KE. [/ QUOTE ] Hitting him in the shoulder wasn't my intention I pulled to the left but it was enough to put him down. Although this isnt a shot i will try to take if you hit em just right and you have the right equipment it might kill him but i would never take the chance. I got lucky it hit the way it did and the arrow didnt break off any sooner or deflect itself somehow. My bow is set on around 64 lbs that might be why it went as far as it did but again i would never intentionally try to hit in the shoulder with a bow NEVER. David Live life Hunt hard
