My good friend from back home (SE ok) that I hunt with when I have the time called me yesterday with the following story:
Last weekend he and his 7 year old son set up in their blind for an evening archery hunt. He said he didn't really think he would see anything, but was happy spending the evening with his boy.
After they had been there they heard two gun shots come from the neighbors side of the fence. He thought it sounded like a muzzleloader and figured the neighbors must be "unloading" their guns from the previous weeks ML season.
Well about thirty minutes later, a gun goes off so close that it makes the boy jump and start crying. This time he knew the shots came from his side of the fence and less than one hundred yards away. After a few minutes they got out to try and see what was going on. They stayed out in the field while they walked in the direction of the shots. He said they looked for about thirty minutes but never saw anyone. He decided to take his son home and to come back and look some more. He decided to walk back to their truck along the creek bed. When they made it back to their blind, his son said "dad who is that". Right behind their blind in the creek bed stood two teenagers. Once they knew they had been spotted they took off running.
My buddy decided against chasing them as all he had was a bow. He came back the next morning and found the 13 point buck in the creek bed. The teenagers were right in the middle of dressing the deer and in haste left their knife. He called the game warden and they tracked the deer back to the neighbors land. They actually fund the empty cartridges on a pasture road.
Now, what to do. My buddy is really good friends with the one of the teenagers dad, Mike. Mike's family owns half of the county. What would yall do.. Sticky situation at best.
