  1. Thanks guys...these suits that are out nowadays are awesome and I firmly believe they work because I have been downwind of deer and they just walked right by the stand. I keep them stored away and only bring them out during archery season...then I put them away again.
  2. a lot of good bows out there. Some have better reputations and customer support versus the others...but a lot of options. I would suggest starting with a budget, go to a few pro shops, shoot a number of bows and figure out with one feels the best to you and fits within your target spending range. Other price factors to include will be all the accessories that you will be adding on.
  3. I was out fertilizing this weekend...getting ready to til and plot in a few weeks. I am going to put in a few more clover plots this spring. My clover plots last spring came in nice and green and thick...deer all them all summer and early fall.
  4. I had a similar experience last year. Lit a fire with some gas and the next thing I knew the wind shifted, gusted, and the fire took off across the field. I burnt down 10 acres in minutes! Good luck with future burns.
  5. I was driving to work again this morning and in the same area I saw all those gobblers I commented on last week, I saw again today...but this time I had a better view. No joke...I counted 8 toms all in the same area in full strut and about 30 hens...I was a huge flock! The cool thing is that I had my video camera in the truck. I keep it in there to film things I might stubble upon! The only bad things is that were all these turkey are...no one can hunt. The land owner won't permit anyone...figures.
  6. I would save up money and buy a target. Stores have end of year sales to get old inventory out and new inventory in so maybe look for sales. Also...maybe check craigslist.com for used hunting materials. If you think about the time and materials involved in making your own target...almost not worth it. $30-$40 will get you a long lasting durable target.
  7. I bought a new Realtree AP Scent Blocker Suit from Dicks Sporting Goods...end of season sale...got a good deal. Last year I bought a new Scentlock suit in Mossy Oak. Now I have 2 suits with distinctly different camo patterns for the various times of the archery season. My hobby has a tendancy to empty my wallet, but hey...I don't mind.
  8. I am looking into a new pair myself. I had a $30 pair from Walmart the last two seasons but they are kind of falling apart. I am looking to upgrade too. Need good optics!
  9. season comes in around end april / beginning may. Have to ceck the exact date.
  10. guys (and gals) I was on my way to work this morning and had a pretty cool encounter with some mature gobblers. I live out in the country...so I am always seeing wildlife...this morning I had 2 big toms run right out in front of me. I watched them walk into an open field. Just over a little knob in the field, I could see about 6 more birds...a mixture of toms, jakes, and hens. The 2 mature toms that ran out in front of me kind of stopped for a second once they were up on the bank going into the field. I put my window down and simply mouth called a few times...they started gobbling back! It was pretty cool...I had them going for a few minutes! Definitely a memory I won't forget any time soon.
  11. :)I went and bought a new Scent Blocker suit this past weekend. I got the Realtree APG suit because I bought a Scentlock suit last year in Mossy Oak. Now I have 2 carbon suits that have camo patterns that go with the change in the seasons...gives me some variety. I know one thing...I spend a lot of money on hunting:) But then again...I bust my butt Mon-Fri to afford me obsessions!
  12. holy smokes! What a freakin' monster!!!
  13. yeah...I play the wind to. In my parts...we have had rain and just breaking out of the snow (so it looks like). I am hoping to get some burning done this coming weekend because the weather looks like to might be nice. Hopefully the areas I have in mind will be dry enough to burn. My "burn season" to me signals the start of hunting season! Can't wait to get my hands in that soil!
  14. I like clover plots...perennial plants...they provide year round nutrition for multiple years. I mow them ever so often during the spring and summer to help thicken and regeneration. Let's face it...seeds are expensive and there is a ton of time involved in preparation year after year. In my opinion, a year round plant that grows year after year, mixed in with some peas and corn...gives a good variety.
  15. how many of you do a controlled brush burn each year? I have some sections of land that I burn to get fresh growth. This year...I think some of the burn areas I am going to turn into food plots.
  16. what is the correct url? Does anyone have a link?

    Ouch...

I've busted my lip open before doing that.
  18. I have a couple acres planted myself...looking to plant a few more. I have a sweet spot picked out...just need to get a bobcat out to clear some of the scrub trees away.
  19. I don't like to hunt in the rain to much. Not because I can't stand to sit in it, but more because if I happen to release an arrow, I want to be able to have a blood trail to follow...even if I know the hit is good...you never know...we have all spent enough time in the woods to see things get hairy. If is hard enough to blood trail under the best of conditions.
