  1. fellas...I got some pics, but can someone tell me how I post them to the forum so you guys can see?
  2. Tell me about it...had a stand stolen this year.
  3. fellas...last night I went for a walk scouting for turkey and watching some deer. I was walking across a trail I have cut and happened to look over about 20 yards into some brush / grass area. I saw something that was white laying there. I looked through my binoculars and saw horn! I walked over and boy o boy was I surprised...I not only had found my 1st ever shed antlers...but they are Pope and Young quality! Big 8 with 9 1/2 - 10 inch G2's...with mass! I couldn't believe what I had found and was now in possession of! I am working to get a digital camera so I can put some pics on here. Folks...I live 30 mins outside Pittsburgh, PA in Beaver County in the country. My neighbors farm, but I also have been doing my part in game management and nutrition to hold and grow deer on my property. I like to think that I am helping and it is working. Now, after seeing these horns...I can hopefully see this deer again this summer and fall...he should be awesome!
  4. I use trace mineral blocks from Tractor Supply. In one place in particular where I had a block last year, the deer have dug a huge hole in the ground, tracks everywhere, where they must be eating mud or drinking water that builds up there...crazy. I am going to get a few more soon to put out. Minerals can't hurt for the overall health of the deer.
  5. I have planted the same blend of seed in my plots. Don't worry to much about the grasses (I have/had the same concern). When everything really greens up and is in full spring in a few weeks, the clovers will really start to come through. From there, I have learned to just mow occassionally and the clovers come in thicker each time. Don't let the anticipation be clouded by anxiety...clovers are a good seed to plant.
  6. Most of my stands are hang on stands. I usually take them down in the spring and put them up again closer to the season...gives me something to do and helps build the excitement.
  7. Thanks...I guess I'll see what this quad looks/runs like before I buy...can't hurt. The new one's out are so expensive (8k+)...I just can't justify spending that kind of money when I know there are slightly older models for sale that people bought and rarely ride.
  8. that is a wild looking deer...
  9. I chew occassionally while on the stand. I usually take it out after so long because I worry about bleating and grunting with my mouth if a deer walks into range...don't want a mouth full of spit to screw up a shot! From a scent control perspective, I have had deer come right to the bottom of my tree and smell around and not spook.
  10. Fellas...I am looking into a 2004 Yamaha Grizzly with low miles that I found for sale. Anyone out there own one of these? Any problems, feedback comments?
  11. Fellas...I wanted to see how long most of you leave your treestands up in the woods from season to season. I still have quite a few up from archery that I need to take down. The thing is, from archery to gun and even 2nd season archery...the season's extend into the winter and by then the cold quickly unmotivates me to take them down until spring. I am going to try and get them down in the next week or 2.
  12. I already have plenty of gear in the box. It is amazing how organized things now are and the garage look neater and more organized as well. Friends and family have stopped in to take a look...quite nice.
  13. There are definitely unethical hunters where I live...I simply think that the overall number of hunters has decreased a little and last year might have kept people out of the woods (EHD, Hot temps, rainy days during gun). I do a good job policing my property from unwanted hunters because I am trying to manage the game. Maybe some of the deer I am seeing are young bucks...just to hard to tell at this point of the year.
  14. I have a video camera, but I left it in the truck like a knucklehead. In PA, you get a license and then can purchase 2 additional doe tags. Every year, I fill my doe tags, my brother fills his, my brother-n-law fills his, my stepdad fills his...and there still are deer around! I am happy to be seeing what I am seeing because our area got hit real bad last year with EHD. Literally thousands of deer died of the disease in my area. A good friend of mine raises and sells deer, about 2 miles from me, and he lost a couple Monsters last year. Hopefully this won't be a problem ever again in my area. I am just anxious to see what start growing horns...I saw a lot of young bucks last year...a couple that couple be shooters this year, and 2 freak nasties!
  15. Fellas (gals)...I have been trying to get out in the evening to scout for turkey, but fortunately, I keep seeing a ton of deer. I saw 22 last night and might have only walked about 1/2 a mile total. What was crazy is that of the 22 I saw total, 11 of them walked into a field in a single file line, one right after another almost like they were connected by string.
  16. yes...I have preoccupied my time with food plots and scouting!
  17. fellas...my brother-n-law and I built a BIG box for all of my archery equipment this weekend. Basically it is 4 feet high, and 8 feet long...framed, on wheels for easy movement, lid with hinges, and a lock...it rocks! I was tired of having all of my archery equipment scattered in the garage. To much money invested...you guys know what I mean. So we went to Lowes, bought about $100 worth of wood and went to work. Took us about 3 hours to put it all together...from design to build. I'll try and get some pics and post. Now, I just need to get a really big Realtree logo to add to the front of the box! (Bill...is you got one laying around, feel free to ship it to me )
  18. Me personally...I hate the chain stands...hard to hang and get adjusted right. I only use the ratchet straps...
