  1. I am a big fan of a perennial clover mix.
  2. they are pretty cool to see in the wild.
  3. deer (archery and gun), pheasant, turkey, rabbit
  4. I usually go 18-20 feet for hang ons. Buck heck, my uncle shot a 155 inch Ohio buck out of a 5 foot wooded platform stand.
  5. can you get a rototiller back there? I would try and get the land tilled / disked over somehow. If not...maybe spray a weed killer and try and rough up the ground with a drag or rake. I have used Evolved Habitat in the past...it worked...but make sure the seeds can get water and sunlight. Do a soil test too.
  6. I have a subscription to a variety of magazines. Each have their pros and cons....not real expensive...maybe pick up a few different subscriptions.
  7. I have a couple Rivers Edge stands with nice seating / foam. I also have quite a few Comfort Zone hand on tree stands from Dicks Sporting goods...the seats on those aren't too bad either. But then again, I am 185 pounds...and I sit and stand in my treestand.
  8. I have been in athletics most of my life so I work out with weights and cardio on a fairly regular basis. I shoot my bow as often as I can. I take walks to scout for sign on a routine basis.
  9. I personally have used Tecomate Monster Mix. The plots came in thick and green. Plan on planting more this year.
  10. I planted Tecomate clover this past year over about 2 acres. Deer were all over it all season...tons of film. The cool part is not that there is some snow on the ground...I can see all the new trails leading from the ridges down to the clover plots. Pretty cool. I plan on planting more clover this year. It seems as though it is hard to mess up planting a high protein, good quality clover...especially because I am not a farmer and lack all the big farming equipment.

    New bow

I have a Hoyt now (MT Sport...bought it about 5-6 years ago) and have made several upgrade modifications to it. I like the bow a lot...actually very quiet...I am just in the mood to buy a new bow and want to make a sound purchase. I intend on shooting these bows first...was just some input from fellow archers. Keep 'em coming!

    New bow

I am thinking about buying a new bow. I am looking into the Mathews DXT, Hoyt Katerra, and possibly a new Bowtech model. Anyone have any comments on these bows?
  13. I can relate...had one stolen this year...made me mad as a bull!
  14. my man...I feel your pain because it happened to me this year...during the season! I usually put up about 10-15 stand locations around our farm, well, one stand is on a property border, that I have the right to hunt on. Well...some jerk, during the bow season, took the stand and pegs...and totally got under my skin.
  15. fellas..last weekend I went on a guided pheasant hunt with a few buddies. I figured what the heck why not, it was close to home, the guide had about 400 acres he owns and manages for these types of hunt. I thought it had to be a great time! I paid $120, my half, and we bought 21 birds (15 roosters, 6 chukkers). We harvested 18 of 21...which may sound fantastic, but not very challenging. Don't get me wrong, it was in many ways fun, but in many ways no so fun. Basically, the birds didn't flush and required the guide to physically kick them and/or throw his hat at the bird. There was absolutely no element of suprise...AT ALL. Heck...the bird were only 5 yards max when they did take off...in a few cases...5 feet. Don't know if I'd do it again...
  16. make some calls, do some research, find where you can shoot a few bows, create a budget, and go from there.
  17. online...it is an okay video...could have been better produced. The point of the story is to follow a dad and his son as they get set up and introduced to bow hunting. In between segments, they show pro staff hunters hunting. At the beginning of the video, you can select to follow son or dad. The thing is, the pro staff hunts in between are the exact same hunts. That is the only reason I didn't like it and thought it could have been better.
