We all have our own opinions and there doesn't seem to be any clear-cut consensus in this situation. With that in mind, any kind of protest on your part could have easily led to a very nasty situation, a loss of some hunting land, and an unfriendly parting of friends. Any future suggestion that you were robbed of "your deer" could lead to exactly the same thing. I would try to adopt the attitude that you are happy for his success and hope for future successes that might turn out in a more favorable way for you.
