I see a lot of Apps out there and would like to know the one that is the best in each category. This one I got in an email is inexpensive. However, that is not the issue for me. Has anyone used the NWTF App? Is it useful? I just want to find the one app that makes sense. You can go broker with trill and error. Here is the NWTF email: Improve Your Hunting with New NWTF iPhone App The powerful new NWTF Turkey Hunting Toolbox is now available for iPhones, iPads and iPod Touch. The official NWTF Turkey Hunting Toolbox has everything a turkey hunter needs in one phone app. Exclusive turkey sound ringtones Turkey sounds recorded from live wild turkeys Video tips from champion callers Valuable turkey hunting tips Range map of wild turkey subspecies Wild turkey score calculator Photos and descriptions of the wild turkey subspecies Links to every state wildlife agency for hunting regulations “This app is a must-have tool for every turkey hunter,” said Brent Lawrence, NWTF public relations and website director. “It has amazing features that can help hunters improve their calling and become better hunters. It will help make you a more complete turkey hunter, not to mention becoming the coolest hunter in the woods.” The exclusive iPhone app features calling tip videos from champion turkey callers, 12 live turkey sounds, and instant access to dozens of proven turkey hunting tips. All are accessible at your fingertips without an Internet connection – even in the most remote corner of the forest. The app’s wild turkey range map can help hunters explore and zoom in to where each subspecies lives across North America. With a few simple measurements, the app calculates the score of a turkey based on the NWTF Wild Turkey Records official requirements. Turkey hunting fanatics will enjoy exclusive NWTF turkey ringtones. Be the talk of your office when a boss gobbler sounds off from your hip, and then catch everyone’s attention when you lower the boom on him. Sign up for an NWTF membership, find local events and keep up with the turkey talk on the NWTF’s Facebook page through this do-it-all app. Search for “NWTF Toolbox” in iTunes or in the App Store on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. The app, only $1.99, was created in cooperation with www.HuntGeek.com. The NWTF and HuntGeek are exploring an Android version. The NWTF, a non-profit conservation organization founded in 1973, has conserved and improved 17 million acres of essential wildlife habitat with its partners by raising and investing $372 million since 1985. Habitat projects that help wild turkeys also improve habitat for deer, quail, rabbits, songbirds and many other species in our fields and forests. The NWTF’s outreach programs – JAKES, Women in the Outdoors and Wheelin’ Sportsmen – introduce about 100,000 youth, women and people with disabilities to the outdoors annually. Passing on the outdoor tradition is essential to the future of conservation and hunting. For more information on the NWTF, visit www.nwtf.org Anyone have this? What do you recommend if not this one?

I suppose I missed joining:confused: Rats! My Turkey season has not started yet either -
Good selections above! I also liked "Fireproof". They ran it at a FD convention a few years back when it first came out. Netfilx carries a few of the titles too.
-
Good luck! I am sitting here with my LifeTime Ga Sportsman license being envious!

That is what I was thinning, the cocking of the strings may be off.

You will be amazed at how good the Thermacell performs for deer or turkey hunting. It keeps the no-se-ums and all other pesky bugs away. I prefer that over spraying myself with bug spay. When it gets hot, bug spray can drip down on your hands or face and wind up in you eyes unintentionally. No issues with Thermacell and although you may think the slight nose from the propane cell may alert critters, it never ruined a hunt for me. Bug free is a happy hunt!

opening day could not have been better

That is a great feeling to wait for the season to come and then tag a bird so quick! How big was the bird & beard? Congrats! -
Must have been some penned turkeys got loose and mated with some wild ones? Looks cool. Will you shoot him if you see him?
-
Congrats!

Hunters Beware - LYME is not what you think!
Flintlock1776 replied to PotashRLS's topic in Turkey Hunting
We adopted a Plott Hound from our load dog rescue and took him to the vet. The vet had a Lyme's disease shot as an option for our new dog. It is an annual shot but I thought well worth it since the dog stays in the house with us. I ask got Bayer Advantax II to put on him as well. Nothing like protecting yourself and your pets from the evil tick! -
I just saw an email deal from Midway USA; a Thermacell with an articulated Flashlight $20. I would not go in the woods without my Thermacell! You may need the light going into the woods and not when the bugs are up and about but it may be nice to have a back up light for the heck of it.
-
Thermacell is great. They do a grab job as the weather warms up and all those bugs started buzzing around. I cannot imagine hunting or fishing without the device.

be careful what is beyond this two acres! Take you time if a rid shows up. Once you let a shot lose you can't call it back,Good luck

Without access to private land you have some public land choices: http://www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/parks/docs/Hunting%20Areas%202011-2012.pdf Voorhees has some spots; check with the local DEP agent on site as the hunting spots are tight to non-hunting areas but pressure from other haters should be light. Hacklebarney is large tract and holds a good amount of Toms. I am not familiar with Zone 11 and I note of the three WMA's one is bow only for turkey. You may be able to get emits for the other zones in Hunterdon/Somerset once the early permits award period is over. Let us know how you do and good luck!

I found Tom and sometimes Jake decoys would make a live Tom hang up out of range and not come in. Since then, I use three hens decoys each pointing in a slightly different angle on a 180 degree arc if you follow my description ( decoys at 9am; noon; and 3 pm - and I am at top of clock looking at the noon decoy). I have been lucky each year. Last year I even got two turkeys over the season. Maybe this year I will tag out with the three I am allowed. Good luck with whatever you decide to go with.

Infrared is you are concerned about tow legged critters seeing your set up after dark. I have enough photos to show that infrared and flash can bother a deer but not enough to make them run off or not come back
-
My main blind is the Double Bull Matrix RECURVE blind. Recurve was the largest of their line. Plenty of room to stand up. I have a Doble Bull T2 for packing into distant sites. Compact yet roomy enough for compound bow and my Parker Buck Buster Compound bow. For gun hunting I have Primos Gunhunter's Blind. All are easy to carry; set up and deer, turkey and other critters do not spook. No flap, no shine. Check them out. Good luck with your choice
-
Hoyt Laser tech as main bow. PSE Fire Flight Back up. My first compound was a Golden Eagle; that worked for so many years! All are fine. Good luck with your set up.

Drop aways for me. I stated with WB many decades back when they were "the" thing. Drop aways came along and work well. I have had vane damage from WB's. Drop away's are today deal for sure. Good luck!

Never tried them. I found the Magnus 4-blade fixed 100 gr. blades put most of my deer right where they stood. Tow deer did run off after being hit; one went 30 yards and the other about 50 yards (he ran and rolled down the hill after being hit)

I do not want the guillotine blade messing up my trophy if I want to get it mounted. I do not want to limit y shot to the most narrow part of the bird. I do not want to do all the other efforts to get the guillotine blade to balance on my rig; I am not sure if you will get proper clearance on a core bow with that blade. I will consider going after my 2nd tom this year with my Crossbow. I will use Magnus Fixed 4 Blade Stinger on my Parker Red Hot bolt. Good luck with your choice!
-
I use Bushnell Holo Sight for more years than I an count. Very reliable!
-
I never did like glass. I have different slates, Cody Call my favorite. Keep extra sandpaper with you in case the slate or striker needs a touch-up

Warren County is good for me!
