    $3.75

3.89 (this week). Goes up a dime every week. I'm driving my F-150 4X4 for now. When I return from Idaho I'll be looking into something cheap (2 grand) that gets 30+mpg.
  2. So sorry to hear. Prayers sent.

    Update on my Cancer

Being relatively new and pretty busy I don't get to read each days postings. I just now found out that you have cancer Steve. I'm really sorry to hear about that, but glad to hear things are going better for you. I'm also glad to hear Kathleen was able to help you out with those supplements. I teach a pharmacology course and the more I learn about vitamin and herbal supplements the more I believe in their usefulness. I'll be praying that the Lord continues to see you through your recovery.
  4. Good luck man! I really hope you have a great trip and harvest a nice bear.
  5. Sooner or later most hunters make a poor shot. I'm not an exception. I'm glad you were able to harvest your bull with your friend. Maybe you could send me your lucky hat for my upcoming bear hunt.
  6. I've asked this question before and came to the conclusion that a 30/30 would be the minimum. I personally am not comfortable with this. I prefer something larger just in case I run across of large 400lb+ bear. I purchased a Remington 300 ultra mag. Remingtom sells ammo that has varying levels of power. You can use the rifle for smaller big game such as deer to larger big game such as moose, bear and elk. Make sure you actually speak with outfitter references before booking.
  7. Shot placement is the key. Fixed or mechanical will provide pleanty of whitetail penetration at 65 lbs. I shoot Rockey Mountain Gators (mechanical-2" diameter). Last year I shot an 11-pointer at 30 yards about 6 inches farther back than I would have liked. The arrow went all the way through. I waited till the next morning and found the deer 150 yards away. I shot a doe (straight down) the Gator severed the spine in two, continued through the vitals. The tip was almost sticking out of the skin underneath the deer. The deer fell straight down and expired within a minute or two. I like the Gator because it shoots like my 100 grain field point and has a 2 inch diameter.

    Recession?

Do you feel like we are in a recession or near recession? If so do you see the country bouncing out of it? When? -OR- Do you think the recession will continue to get worse and possibly lead to another depression? I ask this because I'm wondering if I need to re-think my investments.
  9. Anyone seeing antler growth yet? Either the deer I've seen the past couple weeks are all does or if bucks they haven't started growing yet.
  10. Good advice from all, but one additional thing to consider is which way the wind is blowing on the day of the hunt. Make sure the wind blows your scent in a direction you don't anticipate deer to come from. I'd also suggest a blind if on the ground and pleanty of cover if in a stand. It's hard for youngsters to keep still (unless they fall asleep).

97% yes, I'll be a lot of people assume it wasn't a trick question. I was thinking "is it the second? or some other number?" I think most people know we have the right to bear arms, but they may not know it is the second ammendment.
  13. What part of Idaho ya headed to? I'm heading that way to hopefully tag a couple bruins myself in a couple weeks. I'll be near the Lochasa just south of the panhandle.
  14. I have an old archery target set up at my dads. No ears, no antlers and only 2 legs. It draws in deer. If I was serious about decoys I'd get a Carry-Lite Deer Decoy Sale! $164.99 $149.99 (Cabelas).
  15. Yup both are great for deer. I'd take the one I shoot the most accurate.
  16. 11 scoreable points for me.
  17. The answer to your question changes with each season for me. Every buck (except one button buck) I have harvested I at least cut the rack off and mount on a wooden plaque. Sometimes I make the plaque myself. In 1998 I harvested my largest deer to date. A small, but symetrical 8-pointer. I had a neck mount done. I really wanted to mount my first buck bow kill in 2002, but didn't have the money and the rack was funky looking. Then in 2006 I arrowed a 10-pointer: 149 (net) P&Y. The shoulder mount hangs on my living room wall. In 2007 I arrowed another nice buck, an 11-pointer, 156 (net) P&Y: Unofficial Green Score. I am waiting for the taxidermist to get the shoulder mount back from this one. Currently a deer would have to be a P&Y (125-typical) for me to mount it. Now if I shot a 125-159 class buck with a firearm I'd have to assess my financial status. Any typical deer netting 160 or greater would be a shoulder mount for me regardless of the weapon used.
  18. Not sure on which one yet, but I think my wife is leaning towards a black one. My wife and kids picked the name: Trout.:)Mom and pups are doing well!
  19. Well for years I've been telling the family NO regarding another dog. We have a beagle and our house/yard is fairly small. In addition I end up doing a lot of the work cleaning / feeding / etc... The puppy and finace' thread from a couple days ago has been eating at me. Well 2 days ago we go to my fathers house to see his new lab puppies. He has a chocolate female and the father is the neighbors yellow lab. There are 7 in all (2 black and 5 chocolate). No yellow:confused: Anyway we argued all the way to my dads (me against getting a new puppy and the rest of my crew wanting one). Well I layed down the law alright. Got mad, said by God there was no way we were getting one so on and so forth. One look at them puppies and I caved like coal mine in an earthquake. Now to decide on which one. Which would you all pick? Male/female/black/chocolate? I'll get some pictures posted soon. >Frank
  20. Seems the majority here feel like it's better to have your children believe in Santa than not. So you have that to think about. I'd agree with the majority. I don't think a husband and wife telling the kids there IS or IS NOT a Santa is as big an issue as the conflict it is creating between you and your wife. Kids need to feel like they are in a stable environment. It's essential for their well-being. I'd advise you to spend some more time with your wife and come to a resolution on the issue in a calm manner while the kids are not around. One final note, most children that are told there IS NOT a Santa will tell the others (unless that child is older and can play along). Ask yourself: Is it really that important to you? If so make that known to your wife.
  21. I'm not a business major, but here's my ideas: You should offer products that customers can't get from nearby stores, or order (catalog - internet) from Cabelas or similiar. What that equates to me is a pro-staff. Yourself or others that can set up and repair a bow, offer a practice range, provide heavy items that most don't want to pay shipping for. You have to meet the needs of the customers in your area or you'll be out of business in no time (especially the way the current economy is). Good luck!

    Check your neck

I guess being from Southern IL makes me sort of a mix. Some are applicable but just as many are not. I guess I'm a purple neck.
  23. I feel your pain DU-man. I was supposed to have my dissertation (that I paid for last summer) published and sent to me by Novemeber. In Jan. I called SLU and they said they LOST it. It didn't keep me from graduating, but who knows if I'll ever get the disserattion or at least my money back.
