  1. I'd pray about it as I do for all my decision making, but from what I have read it sounds like the 14 year old needs to realize there are repercussions for his actions. Something he's not getting from home. I think a major problem with today's youth is that they don't take responsibility for their actions. They figure they can slide. Sounds to me like this youth is headed for trouble! Pressing charges now at 14 for assault is far better than at 19 for the same or something worse. I'll be praying that it works out for you and the 14 year old. It's good to hear about fathers like yourself that care about their kids and the kids their kids get into fights with. Where's this 14 year old's dad ya know! >Frank

    Moose hunt

I'm hearing more and more about Newfounland. Sounds like the place for Moose/Woodland Carribou.
  3. Great pictures and an interesting story. Congratulations! Hope I'll have a story to share in a few weeks.
  4. Thanks for the tips OJR and stevebeilgard, I just repsonded to OJR's weather post in the lounge. Then I read the one here. I heard the snow was bad this year. Would there be a place to rent a boat near the Dw something dam? That's a strategy I did not think of. I don't suppose it would work well for archery though? I'm hoping to take 2 bears, the first with my 300 ultra mag and after that archery. I've never been to Idah, and have yet to harvest a bear. I'm so excited about it I can't even explain! I've been looking at maps for a year now and have had several conversations with the rangers in the area. Now hearing from you guys, well I'm getting giddy and at 37 that don't happen much for me. Fly fishing for trout in the morning and bear hunting in the afternoon/evenings. Wow!
  5. Great to hear of the warmer temps! Hopefully the snow will be melting in the mountains East of Orofino making the trails accessible for Spring bear hunting. Here in IL it's 34 degrees and snowing! First snow on Easter since I was a kid. Of course Easter is way early this year.

    spike!!

I have never heard the once a spike always a spike saying and i've been deer hunting for over 20 years. I'm surprised to hear that it's that common. I've shot a few spikes in my day, and they were all 1.5 years old. Congratulations to your wife harvesting her first deer!

    I'm new to the forum

Welcome Ron. Being fairly new myself, I've found what you said to be true. >Frank
  8. I think it's great getting the family involved like like that. All these great looking wraps, I'll have to get into some day.
  9. Think about your dad and what he would really want. I know my dad has an old 6-pointer from the 60's that doesn't look that great. However, I think if I had it re-mounted he would be a little sad. It's amazing what people can associate things to. An old flame and a particular song, or an old car and the good times they had with their friends. I remember seeing an episode of the Wonder Years. Kevins father knew his old car needed to be replaced, but he hatted seeing it go. Then again, maybe your dad would appreciate the gesture?
  10. This can become a heated debate, but will likely not in thes forum. The members here know we hunters have got to stick together. Randy's comment is the same as mine. If it's legal and it is what you want to do then i say go for it. One day I'd love to have a nice 7X7 elk on my wall (I'd have to get a bigger house first of course). Living in IL with a modest income means elk hunting will probably be a once, maybe twice in a lifetime experience if I ever get to go. So what's more important, guaranteed elk meat and a nice trophy for the wall (greatest chance would be from a small acreage high fence area) or possibly not getting any elk meat and probably not taking a trophy, but having the memory of a hunt that did not use high fences? Depends on the day as to how I'd answer. Maybe IL will introduce Elk next year.
  11. Thanks MD, I sent them a letter asking several questions and the guy (Shawn) called me yesterday. He was one of the nicest guys I have ever spoke with. I must have been on the phone with him for 20 minutes. He had to take care of a customer during that time and even asked if he could call me back rather than rushing me off. His prices were reasonable from what I could tell. (about 700.00 for a 6 ft. rug). If I get a bruin this spring I'll be heading to Alpine! Thanks again. >Frank
  12. Very Nice! It looks like your ceiling are not real high? I particularly like that mount because you can mount it higher on the wall. I have 7 ft. ceilings and my mount has the neck and head positioned upright. Since my bucks tines are tall (like yours) I had to place it in the center of the wall. My next house will have at least 9 ft. ceilings.
  13. Listen to Finn, Find a good pro shop now and develop a relationship. It might cost a little more, but after going the Wal-Mart route when I started out I know how valuable a good pro shop can be. In addition, use this forum to ask members what we think of particular equipment. Welcome aboard!
  14. Great look. I especially like the zebra vanes.
  15. Congratulations! I've got to get me an osceola one of these days.
  16. You are a BIG PIG....killer. Congratilations!
  17. Great bird, and the terrain looks like turkey heaven! Congratulations!
  18. Come on, come on! How long does it take to get the pictures copied?
  19. I wish I had been a member of the forums last year when I had the same question. I went with the Bushnell trophy in realtree armor. I've used them twice bowhunting in good weather conditions and they were ok. However, I've yet to use them in the rain, or more severe conditions. Interesting that they fogged up on you. From their website: "Waterproof: O-ring sealed and nitrogen-purged for 100% reliable, fog-free performance" I'm taking them to Idaho for Spring bear hunting for the real test. I'll post a report. I'm worried now, I wish I had went with Nikon last year.
  20. That's a very good question. I imagine deer lose their antlers at different times in different areas? I take it from your remarks that OK deer normally shed by now. I know in IL I generally stop seeing antlered deer in February. I wouldn't be too surprised to see antlered deer in late Feb. I would be suprised to see them now.

    Monster cats ( pics)

I don't know... I guess they're alright for Southern Cats.
  22. Tominator is right. Check with your doctor because he might know something we don't. However, you may want to review this web site for recommended exercises. http://familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/home/healthy/physical/injuries/265.html
  23. Whatever event it was at, it's a great mount. Congratulations!
  24. Got to love them TALL tines! Congratulations
  25. Hey Adjam5, thanks for sharing the story. The pics were great! I have a 5 year old son and 6 year old daughter. I hope in the future I'll have similar hunting stories to share that I have experienced with my kids. It's what it's all about ya know. >Frank
