    Tomorrow

Glad it's over Steve! Here's to hoping those crabs are extra good this year!
  2. Doc, I'll just comment on the bullet. I too have been researching the ability of my Remington 700 BDL (in 300 ultra mag) to take down an interior Alaskan Grizzly. It's consider by some to be a bit light for big bears as your 270 appears to be for Oryx. I've decided to use it because I'm proficient with it. The swift A-Frame seems to be the way to go, but I'm going to practice with it before making the final decision. Currently I use the scirocco for black bear, but plan to try the swift A-Frame. If I can't hit where I need to I'll move to a Barnes TSX or perhaps the Nosler Partition.
  3. I have two. A Remington Genesis and a Traditions. I have a Nikon Buckmasters on one and a Cabelas Alpha series on the other. They both are very accurate (I've only practiced out to 100 yards and can hit a grapefruit every time - unless I jerk). Both guns and scopes cost me about 500.00 total. Perhaps over time and further distances the higher priced ML's will show their worth, but if a 175 dollar gun gets the bullet where it needs to be at 100 yards then that's all I need. I've shot CVA as well and it was accurate. I think you can expect most any ML to be very accurate at least out to 100 yards.
  4. Good luck with the new job. I just picked up a second job in the intermediate care unit this week. Gotta save for some future hunting trips.

    Deer Fever

Deer Fever 108 temps keep me hot but keep deer fever away from me. Still missing the mountain temps and black bears of Idaho. Once the corn starts to turn gold and the evenings require long sleeves deer fever will be my diagnosis as it is every year. No cure - it's chronic
  7. tired of these mountains Been over 100 for 2 weeks - no rain and 90's at night. Hate it
  8. What color is this bear? I'd really like to read that article - please post or get it to me by some other means.
  9. I've been reading about them! Do you have that color on the Alaskan island you have your house at Steve?

    Working out

I belong to a local health club and a rock climbing gym in St. Louis. I climb 1-2 times per week for 2-4 hours and go the regular gym about once per week for an hour.

  13. Pictures from the Hunt: Camp Mountains My Cinnamon Bear Dwaynes Black Bear
  14. I had this in the big game room but alas, no comments yet. I thought this was a cinnamon color. Another experienced bear hunter agreed. Then another experienced bear hunter said not at all - that it was brown or chocolate, another one disagreed with both and said it was red or rust color. So what do YOU think?
  15. Roasts and ground bear. I may try jerky.
  16. I need a favor - what color do you all think my bear is? I've heard cinnamon, rust, chocolate, brown, and red. I thought cinnamon, but many say no.
  17. 2012 Idaho Bear Hunt Here is Dwayne's bear
  18. 2012 Idaho Bear Hunt Thanks everyone! My hunting buddy Dwayne finally got his first bear last night! A black boar that had a Tate for bagels. LOL Now were 5 hours into the 33 hour drive home. What an adventure! Dwayne caught a trout - put it on a stringer near the bank. An osprey swoops down and steals his fish and stringer. Then on our way down the highway takin my bear to the taxi we come across a Harley rider face down in the middle of the road. A dead deer nearby. Since Dwayne and I are both RNs we offer assistance until EMS arrives. They call in a helicopter for him - fortunately his helmet saved his life. What an adventure! Oh - we were Between 5 and 6 thousand feet in the Bitterroot mountains.
