Thanks everyone, just got the iPhone and the RT forum app. Posting a picture of my 2010 bear for practice. Will have more later granted I get it to work.

Looks like a fat old bear there Ben - Congratulations!

Well I leave in about a week for Idaho! Taking a buddy (his first time). Going to try to put the smackdown on another one - hopefully a color phase bear this year. Going to take the bow, but I'm not sure how many I'll be seeing. The snow has just melted enough to drive a truck back to our hunting area (TODAY)! This means there will not be time for my idaho resident contact to get an active bait set up. We're on our own as far as getting a bait set and hoping a big bruin finds it quick! Beter than last year though - the snow pack run till the last week of June so we cancelled te trip. Going to have 8 days of hunting to get it done. Come on gas prices -keep dropping! Will post pictures here later.

I've seen some 130's at 50 yards with my bow and told a fib to my hunting buddies that I let it go (which I did, but had he came to within 20 yards I most likely would have arrowed him). As memory serves me I pulled on a 9 point probably 115 inches that was probably 2.5 years old. Ended up letting the bow down without taking the shot. He was also right at 30 yards which was my max distance so combining the distance and smaller rack I didn't shot.

Been using Google maps on my Blackberry for a couple years now. It was free when I got it. Google Maps for mobile

I'm late to this post, but here's my 2 cents: I have a Blackberry curve 3G. It was fine for a while, but now I want to do more with my phone. I teach classes online and can actually access my courses (managed via Blackboard) with my Blackberry. The problem is it takes (what I feel) is an exceptioanlly long time to get the messages and papers students send me through Blackboard. The iphone 4G I've experimented with and is at least 4 times faster. To me this makes a big difference and this fall I'll be in my tree stand grading papers and answering questions on my new iphone.

I'd like to have a 12 guage bolt action shotgun, but since I don't I use my Remington Genesis 50 Cal ML with a Nikon scope. I've killed the most deer with the Cabelas gun the Wii remote fits into.
-
Wish I had a knife by Ross of course. Some day. I have Cabelas points saved up so my next knife will be a Cabelas / Buck Alaskan guide series knife that uses the S30V steel. Waiting for a 20 dollar off coupon.

If you have that many alcoholics on that property you better be careful. What you described would force me to do one of two things. Probably the best idea - leave. No deer is worth getting shot. If you have no where else to hunt then plan to hunt it early season and on days when the alcoholics are not there. The additional information you provide only adds to my advice of NOT cutting any trails. If there are big bucks there it's because the alcoholics don't know it and have not been in the area due to a lack of trails. Start cutting trails and pretty soon it will be lined with beer cans. I know decoys can work early season - just let it sit outside for a few weeks and handle it with rubber gloves. I would not bother with a food plot since you have no control of the property. Why do all the work and then some moron gets to reap the rewards. Be careful out there!

Good advice right there. Mine are all summit. I have an openshot for long walks and short archery hunts (2-5 hours), a viper with a rail for gun hunting, and a bushmaster for long walks and all day archery hunts. The bushmaster is more comfortable than the open shot (a little heavier too). You can always buy shooting stick(s) to stabilize your gun if you want to use a one stand for all types of hunts. My advice if you're looking for a one stand to meet all my needs would be the bushmaster. You can sit in it all day and the platform is just long enough to stabilize shooting sticks on. I find the openshot platform too short to gun hunt with.

Having a relatively small piece of property (80 acres) that is known to hold big bucks is a most fortunate thing to have. I would not do anything to screw that up. Those big bucks are there because there is something there they like. Start cutting trails and the big boys might decide to leave. My advice is to stay out! If you know they are there then don't even scout it. Just wait for the rut and grunt/rattle them to you. Decoys can be useful as well.

Went last year. It was a good time, too many people in town though. The camping was fun and floating down the rivers made the trip.

Going to Idaho this spring to bear hunt. I'll be on the Lochsa River. Salmon swim up from the Pacific to spawn. It is legal in areas to fish for them, but I don't know how or more importantly - what - to use to catch them. I'm not a regular salmon fisherman so if the price gets too high for gear I simply will not do it. I may look into renting gear near Missoula MT. I have a light duty fly rod for small mountian trout and a baitcaster on a medium duty pole for bass fishing. I have 10 lb line on the baitcaster. I'm figuring I'd need a whole new reel and pole but don't know what kind? Any help is appreciated.

Great looking puppy - labs are great!

Not this year. I'll go next year if Tim's there

I made a mistake on the model number, Taurus has a model look up web site I found and it is actually a model 669, made in 1991.
-
Good to hear. I know very little about handguns. Ddin't even know the model till asked here on the forums. I then looked up the model number. I know it sure is a loud son of a gun!

It's a lot of fun - Good luck! I'll be in neighboring Idaho in mid-June trying to get a couple bruins. This year I hope to get my first with my bow.

Got a 200 lb. black bear in 2010 (have never measured the skull) - had a full mount done. Scoring is fun and can add to the hunting experience, but it really doesn't matter to me if an animal makes it into a book. I have a B&C whitetail entered and for a year had the certificate up next to it. After that year I moved it and the certificate now sits in a desk.

Bought this for 280.00 from my cousin (exactly what he paid) today after hitting a paper plate every time at 20 and 30 yards. It's a Taurus 357 mag 6-shooter double action with a 6 inch barrel. It's used, but in good shape. It will not see a lot of shooting. Maybe 10-20 rounds per year. I primarily want it for security when I hunt black bears with a bow in the spring. Do you think the price was too much / about right / I got a good deal? Thanks

Just curious if you would have left it broke on this one or on any mount that was broke? Reason? My view is as long as one has another side to mirror and get close to the way it really was then go for it. Taxidermy is all about making it look as it once did and at one time that antler was there.

I never did believe till last week when I took the kids to Disney World. Here is what the yeti did to the coaster tracks: Here ia picture of the creature in action:

William this is the one you guessed on and just missed getting the Christmas gift card! If I added the repair work he'd go around 130 inches gross score.
