I have been using them for a year and a half so far and I really like them. They are the toughest vane I have used yet and I get great stabilization with them.

this got way off topic....

.270 with 130 gr. bullet for deer... upgrade to a 150+ gr. bullet for elk... the biggest thing to remember about killing any animal is shot placement

almost every accessory you can get on your bow promises better accuracy these days... sometimes it can be true, sometimes the difference is so minute it isn't worth paying the extra $$$... just something to keep in mind

I ate a big ol' tag sandwich. The birds just wouldn't cooperate with me this year. Anybody else, or am I the only one? Oh well, now I look forward to archery season!

good advice! just remember.. even though you may not get rich, you will have never worked a day in your life if you do what you love for a living.

I can't believe they are out of season there! Here in PA you can hunt them 364 (not on Christmas) and we still have a huge coyote problem. I need to get out and try my luck at thinning the population but I don't have much experience or time.

my dad has a GMC 2500 Duramax with the allison transmission (basically the same as the Chevy)... he runs a chemical plant in central, pa and tows 5 ton fertilizer spreaders all the time with it... it handles them just fine... he said he has forgotten he was towing one before!! haha they are impressive vehicles... the transmission had a small leak at about 80,000 miles but it was easily fixed... other than that i don't think there have been any other problems

I purchased some wasp broadheads after last season.. I havent broadhead tuned my bow with them yet, but i am impressed with their construction... they are VERY sharp and look well built.. the trocar tips line up with the blades every time which in theory should give me better flight than my muzzys.. we'lll see...

in my experiences... the turkeys i have hunted will stay on roost for a much longer period when there is a thick fog... when the fog cleared up a good bit, they would fly down and carry on with their normal routine

Yesterday my Dad and I ran down to the taxidermist to pick up my Dad's 2010 South Dakota whitetail... It scored about 132 if I remember correctly. I also found my rack from the buck I shot last season which will be put on a plaque.. I shot the wrong buck at 350 yards broadside.. all I saw were his beams, making me think it was the larger buck I missed earlier in the same field... he has a 16 and 1/4" inside spread. He was the biggest bodied deer I had killed to date.... Not a bad 2010 season!

he has been with me every time I have gone out this spring... I can't quite seem to shake him!

I wounded a bird last spring and am still disgusted over it. He was a beautiful bird and like you said "deserved better". It won't stop me from turkey hunting however. If anything, it taught me to pick my shots more carefully. I know you will feel bad over it, but I think that making mistakes in the woods makes us better hunters over all. Keep at it and good luck next time. KEEP AT IT!.. oh and keep smiling!

ATV tree stand transportation
ChrisSeb53 replied to Swamphunter's topic in Vehicles and Hunting Transportation
My dad and I have some paths cut to get a truck as close as we can to the stand site and then we carry the thing to the stand site... talk about bustin your butt! It's all worth it if our plan comes together in the end though -
What sights do you use to take your turkey??

as a general rule for my area, turkeys will generally roost in the hemlocks or pines...but with that being said, they will also roost up in a big ol oak tree... a good turkey hunter is hitting the woods right now as you said you were going to do and locating those birds NOW! spot them from a distance if you can first thing in the morning after you have located them to see what their habits are. Turkeys tend to be like deer with their habits this time of year. for example... a flock i have hunted for the past few seasons roosts across the river on a steep mountainside and then flies across the river to feed in the crop fields.. the strutters would strut and follow the hens around a wooded peninsula into an adjoining field... if the toms were henned up, then, because i knew their patterns, i would cut them off at about the point of the peninsula because that is where they would be in range. keep an eye out for any clear cuts or fields close to where the birds are roosting... spring toms like to be in the open when they strut so they will be seen... set up about 5-10 yards into the woodline of the field if you can to break up your outline and hide any movement... and remember.. sometimes calling less is "more"... i like to get a tom fired up and then shut up... he still knows where the sound came from and could come in sneaking... good luck! hope any of this helped.

sorry to hear about the theft... my guess was that either you are right and they don't know they need a passcode.. or they were obviously tresspassing and didnt want to me caught on camera and took it... I hope you get it back soon... i know how pricey those particular cameras are!

Hey everyone... I'll just get right to it... I have never shed hunted before and I am interested in starting... what are some tips and tricks y'all have learned over the years and could you give me a little "how to" while you're at it? I think I have an idea that you just walk some deer trails and maybe get lucky... or do y'all have a method? A LOT of land I hunt is COVERED with multiflora rose and is thick with everything else you can think of that will stick you so it is hard to get into some areas.. any ideas? thanks!
