  1. you might be able to get away with keeping your arrows and shooting a lighter head
  2. i would give you your five and let you keep the gift certificate since its going to a good cause (thats if i hit one that is):cool2:
  3. yeah that would seem like a lot to carry into the woods.. jmo
  4. thanks guys.. got my confidence up about them... can't wait to hopefully let one fly at a deer this fall
  5. Recently, I was at the Sportsman's Show in Harrisburg, PA and came across the WASP broadhead booth. I decided to give the SST BOSS fixed blade 100 gr. a try this year because they looked like a good broadhead and they were selling them on special (6 for $26). First impressions: - Blades are extremely sharp - Broadhead assembles easily - Blades are compact hopefully resulting in decent arrow flight - Trocar tip aligns with the blades I haven't shot them yet because it is still very cold here in central Pennsylvania, but I am extremely optimistic about these heads. The blades are low profile, but still give a 1 1/8" cut. I know i will probably have to broadhead tune, but that is not a problem. I just hope that they fly well and consistently so I do not have to move my rest to much. Does anybody else use these heads or any other WASP head? If so, I would be interested in hearing your opinion on them. Thanks.
  6. GREAT deer!... i LOVE the mass!
  7. Update: apparently rumor has it that this guy either paid thousands in a high fence operation to shoot this deer, or he poached it... what a shame... makes me sick
  8. agreed... it is frustrating to see less deer, but if it means the deer aren't eating themselves out of house and home and starving to death because of high numbers, then i am all for it because that means i can hunt them in the future.... plus it means my hunt isnt over right away and i can enjoy the great outdoors a little longer
  9. i was driving home the other day to get ready to go out for an afternoon stand hunt when my buddy sent me a picture of this GIANT on my cell phone. Apparently his friend shot this deer on the second day of the regular firearms season in Lycoming County, PA. He has multiple main beams and apparently has 30 scorable points. WOW:clap::tt1:
  10. ^^ good deal! the .308 is basically the 7.62x51mm NATO with a hair difference in the neck of the case. the 7.62x51mm NATO has been the standard issue sniper caliber for a number of years... you can kill a deer with almost any caliber at longer ranges... just do your homework and shooting to learn your bullet trajectory... the .308 is a fine caliber... on another note.. i killed a buck on monday at 300 yards with my .270 BECAUSE i knew my bullet trajectory
  11. maybe im taking a long shot here or reading the post the wrong way but was it still early morning and rather dark or late evening? you will see a flash if you shoot in lower light conditions..
  12. when it comes to a deers eyesight, It's mostly about movement IMO... I have killed deer in a flannel shirt and jeans from 30 yards away.
  13. congrats bud... good to hear another PA hunter with a success story!
  14. i thought Nosler made the ballistic tip?
  15. i dont even want to get started... lets just say i feel and share your pain
  16. great deer... congrats!

    BBD

I don't have pics... but this pretty much sums up my year so far... There is a road that splits the 200+ acre farm my family leases to hunt every year. Well apparently last Saturday around 10 PM a 11 pt with around a 20-22" spread was killed by a car crossing that road. BBD, but not by me... :bang::hammer1::surrender::chair: Problems with trespassers and just plain bad luck have played a big part in a frustrating season for me... Only one more weekend here in PA, and I am seriously considering not even bothering.
  18. I have had problems with trespassers this year... I have gone out only 4 times this year.... seeing deer twice out of those 4 times... and seeing a trespasser twice... I don't think I am going out again this year... like you, I am absolutely sick of the bs... no matter what i do, i cant win
  19. GREAT deer!.. especially for being on PA state land ( i havent had good experience on stateland)... great story and congrats on an awesome deer!
  20. I was just saying I agree with you when you said they did the right thing
