They changed the quota for Michigan this year as well. For the majority of the Southern part of the state you can buy 5 doe tags per day all season if you're hunting private land. I understand the need to get the population down but 5 per day seems a little excessive especially at $15 each. Last year it was 5 per season if I remember right and now 5 per day. That's quite a jump.

I've learned that just because I put up no trespassing signs doesn't mean the neighbors think it applies to them.

That is one impressive deer. Good luck with him

I just had one put on a few days ago and had the same problem only not as bad. I just had to twist my string loop to one side a little. Instead of the loop running straight off the back side of the string it's offset maybe 45 degrees. This causes the string to twist slightly when you draw back which will also twist your peep. May be worth giving it a try if you use a string loop.

I have 11 up so far, need to hang 3 or 4 more and clear lanes for 4 or 5 of them. I plan on having them up and cleared out by next weekend. The heat this summer has made it drag out a little longer than I like.

I bought the Nikon Omega for my Triumph last year and love it. Mine is right on out to 150 and a touch low at 200. I'm shooting 100 grains of Blackhorn 209 with 250 grain Barnes Spitfire T-EZ sabots. This is an excellent setup for my Triumph.

I've been thinking about getting the same peep only in the 1/4". I've been having issues with the one I have on there now and getting it to line up correctly when I'm at full draw. I shot my brothers bow this weekend which has the G5 peep; it's much better than the one I have.

That right there is funny

I have been getting calls from Buckmasters everyday for the past 3 or 4 weeks; even on Saturdays. It never ends; everytime I answer the call it gets disconnected immediately. It's driving me nuts. I can't wait until I answer and there is someone on the other end I can talk to. I've tried to call the number back but there is always a busy signal. This has been going on for the past 2 years. They call non stop and then I won't get a call for a few months. The few times I answer and there is someone there I explain the situation and they promise to take me off the list. It will last for a month or 2 and then the calls start again. I haven't signed up for any of his garbage in over a year.

I haven't shot the Victory but I own the Diamond Black Ice. It's been the best bow I've ever owned.

The only thing I added were the tires and rims. It was just under $700. Not very cheap; but they make a world of difference in the mud and snow. I had the same tires on my old quad; I was amazed when I switched out my stock tires with these, especially for plowing snow. These tires hold up very well compared to many of the other brands. My brother has almost 1200 miles on his set and there is still almost an inch of tread left on them.

I know it..I've had it for almost 2 weeks and so far I've put 1/2 mile on it. I need to break it in and get a little mud on it. Then it won't bother me as much.

I bought myself a new toy last week!!! Brand new 2010 Polaris Sportsman 500 Limited Edition. I had been looking for a decent used one but was not able to find any that I really liked, so I settled for this one. Here is the before: And here are the afters; with a new winch and the bigwheel kit. What do you think?

I only saw one of them..I must have caught them as they were leaving. It was only on the screen for a few seconds.

The saga of the antlered doe comes to an end!

Not sure if you can save the velvet but it would make a nice euro mount; or even get a cape from another doe and do a shoulder mount. -
A little form of deer management next year.
jdavis replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Land & Wildlife Management
I think that it's a good place to start however I would make the requirements a little more strict as 3 points on one side would mean about 75% of the 1 1/2 year olds would fall into this category, but it may be different in your area. The most important factor is age, so many people set size requirements based on minimum inches; when in reality age should be the determining factor on which deer to harvest. You can have a 3 1/2 year old that would score 150" and a 5 1/2 year old that will only score 120"; based on the standards of many co-ops the 5 1/2 wouldn't meet the requirements and people would pass him up and take the 3 1/2 year old that has so much more potential. But I also realize that not a lot of hunters can accurately field judge deer. Give it a try and after a few years you can gradually start to up the standards slowly. If you make the standards too high to begin with you will do more harm than good as a lot of the hunters will lose interest. -
This is what I shoot as well; only I shoot the 290gr. and Blackhorn out of my Triumph. They are an excellent bullet, I have recovered a few of them from deer I shot and they have perfect expansion every time. I try to stay away from the bullets with lead cores, seems that a lot of time they fragment into pieces and loose their weight or they just don't expand very well. Give them a try, you won't be dissapointed.

Same problem I'm having in Michigan. I had a few days during bow season when we had good activity and then after opening day of gun season everything stopped. The majority of the corn is still up around us, usually by this time of the year it's all down. I think all the pressure has pushed them into the corn. Our shotgun season ends in a week and muzzleloader starts up Dec 4th, I think it will pick up a lot by then assuming the corn is down.

Still paying on my wife's loans, around $200/month. Still owe around 13k, I try not to think about how long it's going to take to get these paid off. We both graduated 4 years ago so it's going to be awhile before they are paid off. It will all be worth it someday, or so I'm told. I was fortunate to have my parents pay for my schooling. 13k is a whole lot better than 26k.
