  1. I think you're looking at it's back leg, his tail is sticking straight down and it's left side back leg is stretched out behind him.
  2. Sounds very similar to my first bow kill. I hit her a little far back in the spine and she crawled into some brush before I could get a second shot. I ended up climbing down from my stand and putting another arrow in her. Wasn't pretty but it's better that wounding one I guess. Congrats on your first kill.
  3. We do everything ourselves, I've only taken one deer to the processor and that's because we had 80 degree weather that weekend, I wasn't happy with the results. I like knowing that I'm getting my deer and it gets cut the way I like it.
  4. That's a good sized deer, nice shot too. Congrats
  5. I like the picture with the snow. I started with one camera a few years ago and now I'm up to five, it can be addicting.
  6. I just bought a T/C Triumph Bone Collector edition, put a Nikon Omega BDC 250 on it last night. I'm planning on shooting Blackhorn 209 with a 290 grain Barnes Spitfire T-EZ sabot.
  7. That's too bad, if you hunt long enough it will happen to the best of them. Sounds like you did everything you could to try and recover the deer after the shot, which is what really matters. Better luck next time.
  8. If it's public land them I wouldn't say anything, around here there isn't a lot of public land and what land there is seems to be way overcrowed. If it were on private land then I would share my sightings with them.
  9. That's a great deer, congrats
  10. Congrats to your son, nothing like your first bow kill
  11. I've been doing it for the past few years, usually pass on 10-15 bucks per year. We also planted our first food plots this year which have been amazing. I've got a similar problem with our neighbors, once gun season rolls around any deer on their property is fair game. But it's their property and they can do as they please with it. I've talked with them about QDM and passing on the smaller bucks but they didn't seem real interested. I figure if one of the 10-15 bucks I passed up makes it to the following year then it was worth it. I try not to disturb our woods much during the gun season, this way when the neighbors run them off their property they have somewhere safe to stay.
  12. I think it can help a lot, I only use to practice out to 25 yards considering most of my shots were never more than 20 yards. I could shoot good at 25 yards but I was always a little nervous taking these shots. The last few years I've been shooting at 40 yards almost always. I don't know if I'd ever shoot a deer that far but now when I get one 30 yards or closer my confidence is much higher and I know that I can easily make the shot.

    Bomb the Moon ??

That was 7:30 this morning wasn't it???
  14. I do the exact same thing and I noticed the other day that my pointer finger was very close to the end of the arrow. I can only imagine the pain of having a broadhead on there and taking the end of my finger off. Now I'm self conscious about it, hopefully I don't forget when a deer steps in front of me.
  15. That's an awesome mount, looks like someone put a lot of time into it.
  16. Nice looking deer Congrats
  17. I know what you mean; seems like it's either raining, too windy, or both. Can't get a break, this weekend is looking a little better. Chance of light snow by Sunday hopefully this will get the deer moving.
  18. I just broke down and ordered two jugs of it, cost me almost $90!! by the time I paid the stupid haz mat fee. I only wanted one jug just to give it a try but I knew if I liked it I would order another jug and have to pay the $20 fee again, so I ordered 2. I checked with all the dealers around here and no one seems to carry it so I didn't have much of a choice. I hope it's worth it.
  19. That's correct, unless your in the military or if you are a full time student attending a Michigan college and living in Michigan while attending.
  20. No moose season in Michigan; there are a few around but apparently not enough to open a season. Your correct on the elk season, Unless your very lucky it will take many years to draw a bull tag.
  21. I wouldn't try to shoot thru the mesh; I know they say it doesn't affect accuracy but I just don't see how shooting thru the mesh isn't going to affect your arrow flight. If a twig will throw your arrow off then I would think the same would apply to this.

    So close...

Better luck next time; you did the right thing by not taking the shot and waiting. It might not have worked out this time but it's better than having a wonded deer out there.
