Just curious how many guys around here believe in concealed carry. I am not asking if you do because you may not want to have that information made public but I strongly believe in an individuals right to carry.

My dad just bought a sig p239 that I really like. congrats on the new gun!

You can buy some of the newer S&W's for a fair price. My brother in law bought a high point and sent it back due to failures to extract the spent casing. I would go Taurus before hi point. I believe with guns you get what you pay for and you better be sure you trust to life to any gun you own. Stay within your budget but handle as many firearms as possible, keep looking until you find one that fits your hand.

Anyone try the accutip remingtons?

Blackhorn all the way! I use 100 gr of blackhorn by volume and a hornady 250 sst. Smashed a 5pt'er at 10 yards from my tree 2 years ago. The deer was toast, he didn't go anywhere. I am not sure of the sst's out of my shotgun as I feel I didn't get a good blood trail/ exit would, but the deer dropped 40 yards from the hit. I will keep using the sst's in my ML until they give me a reason to switch.

congrats on a couple of nice deer.

Thanks for the words of wisdom. I think I am going to try the copper solids, Winchester supreme, and the new hornady American whitetail slug line that is coming out soon. I like the idea of the higher velocity but using ammo with some sort of tip makes me worry that I will not get the needed expansion at close range like I need. I am probably overthinking and will be ok with the SST's I am using now but I want to try something new.

Congrats, meat in your freezer. My kids do not care what I shoot as long as they get to eat it.

I hear what you are saying. I had shots at two deer and a coyote and the longest shot was 75 yards. Honestly, for the most part, I cannot even see deer over 100 yards away because the woods are really thick.

thanks

I started shooting Hornady SST's and they group well on paper at 50 yards but shooting 40-60 yards from a tree they seem to be shooting high, which is not unexpected as the box shows 2.7 inches high at 100 and 0 at 150 yrds. I not impressed with the damage done when my second shot grazed the heart. The deer went down but no blood trail at all. Thinking of trying rem copper solids from my Mossberg 500. I know all guns are different, I am just curious what others use.

oh yeah, Happy New Year team!

Congrats on the buck anyway. I went out yesterday and it was cold and the night after a bright moon. Nothing was moving at all. All I keep seeing are small bucks and NO DOES. I dont know if it was from 2 years ago when 20+ were killed or the coyote population being up. I have a mini-14 in 6.8 that i plan to take out after deer season to try to put the hurt on a coyote.

after putting a few hundred rounds in my glock 26 I feel very confident. It all depends on what you want in a gun. Semi-auto or a wheel gun? I HAVE NOT SHOT a ruger SP101 but have heard they lock up tight and have a little heft to them that takes the bite out of the 357 defensive rounds. I am waiting to check one out. Not to mention you can shoot 38 in it as well. With that being said I still love my G-26. I also just bought a new holster from Jason Winnie Leather Designs. Very nice holster for a reasonable prices.

Hey team, just stopping by to check in. It seems like it is always raining or 20 mph winds lately. I still have all of January and the first weekend of Feb. to hunt and will be out. Everyone on the farm I am hunting on is having the same luck as I. STINKS!

This has been a slow season. Not much doe action here. Seen lots of little bucks. Still a month and a half to go.

Wild game IR4, they sell them at bass pro. You can usually find one on sale for 79ish.

Hey guys, sorry i have been away from the keyboard for a while. I have been busy hunting, working, and having sick kids. It is looking like rain all weekend. With the rut winding down here I am going to start looking to shoot a doe or two. Last weekend I have a few small bucks come by but nothing to shoot at just yet. We are getting into my favorite part of hunting season. Most guys are finished or giving up after Ohio gun season. I came home the other day and my wife had a new pair of insulated overalls waiting for me for the cold weather.
-
I went back out yesterday and saw 3 small bucks chasing a doe around the hillside I was hunting. Not much else was going on. Ohio gun season starts next weekend. I will have to get out early and beat those other guys to the stand.

Congrats on an awesome deer.

Congrats on the deer Martin. I shaved the belly hair off of an 8pt today. I thought he was right around 30 yards and he ended up being around 36 and i shot right under him. He had a large body on him which fooled me a bit on his rack size.
-
Good luck this weekend guys!

The rut is in full swing here. I wish i could get out more.

Well.....the owner of the farm i hunt on confronted the guy that stole my camera cards and showed him pics we have of him in an area he is not supposed to be hunting. Come to find out he has a stand in that area. My cards appeared in a card case wedged in one of my stands. I was told he is not allowed to come back next season, excellent news! Friday I saw a buck chasing a doe and that was it. Sunday I had 4 does come up behind me and a button buck but no shot. I was in my climber about 40 yards up from my ladder stand and the deer were right on me but i was facing the wrong way. I saw another 8pt about 60 yards up hot on a trail.... i scoped out a tree to hunt off of that trail, again about forty yards up from me to the other tree.

Sunday I grunted in an 8pt that was following 2 does. I am guessing they were not ready yet.
