  1. No problems with my explorer. I have never had an issue with either of my Hortons. plenty of dead deer would agree they work out just fine.
  2. It all depends on what your bow likes. I have always had good luck with Thunderheads, both in 100gr and 125gr. I have a new pack of spitfires i will be using this year. I shoot a horton explorer and had it push a thunderhead through a does longways just fine last year. went in around the shoulder and i pulled it out in the rump.
  3. Knocking on doors has worked for us before. We have found access to 2 urban areas and one track of 20 acres that an older lady owned. Actually I had been there with my uncle in his car but the lady never saw my car, well I showed up in my car during gun season and she stuck her head out the window and yelled have fun before I ever got to the door to tell her who i was that afternoon.
  4. Sourthen, I have a CVA optima and love it. I shoot the hornady SST bullets with the red sabot (Hornady 50 Cal Sabot Low Drag w/ 45 Cal 250 SST Bullet - Dick's Sporting Goods) and 100 grain ( by volume not weight) or Blackhorn 209 powder. No do not let the price of the blackhorn scare you, 30 bucks at bass pro. You have enough for a LOT of shots and it does not foul up your barrel. I shot the gun around 8 times without swabbing at all and each bullet loaded just as easy as the first. The kicker is that you can only use this powder with a modern muzzleloader which you are buying and use a remington primer. Those are real shotgun 209 primers. You are not supposed to use the 209 muzzleloader grade primers which i would not use anyway. very accurate, dropped a but at 10 yards in his tracks last winter.
  5. Everything on my trail cam here is still in velvet as of yesterday.
  6. I will let you guys know once I put them on the group. Usually I will just use snoseal on boots. My last pair were around 8 years old.
  7. Nice looking setup Mike. I am going to be out hanging stands and shooting my bow next weekend if the weather here holds out. It was looking like rain all day today but it never came.
  8. I have read all of the Peter-Capstick series books as well as one called A Look at Life from a Deer Stand: Hunting for the Meaning of Life. Currently working on The Man Eaters of Tsavo.
  9. If you show up on the public land first in the morning it is your spot, correct? The farm I am hunting now has too many hunters but I am not letting that stop me from putting a stand up 100 yards from some other guys. Last year one of his buddies put up a stand on a tree i marked and right across a creek from my ground blind which he DID see. I hunt with the owners nephew though, so we win if it gets ugly.
  10. If anyone is not on a team please sign up on the alternates list... If four more sign up asap we could have enough for another team!
  11. Bought 2 new pair of boots at Dicks sporting goods the other day, light insulation and heavy. What products do you guys use for extra waterproofing or would you? both are rocky boots, one pair is gortex waterproofing and the other just says rock waterproofing.
  12. What kind of scope did you go with mike? I have a truglo but i am not impressed with the eye relief on it at all. I do have easton carbon arrows and I love them. I shoot 100 gr thunderheads out of my horton explorer hd150. Last year I had an arrow pass almost all of the way through a doe longways. This year I just bought a new pack of spitfire 3 blades in 100gr. What grain are you shooting with the rage?
  13. Wow, he should have kicked rocks and moved along.
  14. What a sweet looking buck! Great job on the mount!
  15. I would go to Lee and Tiffany's farm in Iowa for a hunt with Tiffany!
  16. I know more guys here have crossbows.... what kind of products such as optics, sound dampeners, quivers do you use? We finally have a spot to discuss so lets get to it with seasons getting ready to open up!
  17. What do you guys think about age on this guy? im thinking 3.5. He does not look that old to me. He has tons of food to eat in the bean fields. I swear these urban deer can get huge!
  18. I know this should be in the photo room but i wanted to share with all. This guy was standing in my backyard around dinner time licking on an old salt block. I live in a residential area with a bean fiel 100 yards away on the other side of some woods. First time i have seen a deer here in two years. Usually the neighbors dogs run them out.
  19. Very sorry to hear about your loss, it sounds like she was a loved family member and that is alays a hard loss. I will say a prayer for your family.
  20. I used to try to hurry through the list but like most of you, i have slowed down. I will get to it when I can and the market flopped so I couldnt sell even if I wanted to.
  21. That is the truth, now that the plumbing stack is fixed we are going to resume painting the upstairs. Once the painting is done that means it is time for me to start pricing new carpet for the upstairs. Once the fall hits I am putting new insalation under my bedroom, which was an addition. Next summer I am going to put new boards on the deck. Then I will move downstairs, where we had to cut a lot of the bottom of the old framing out to waterproof. I am going to rip it all out and frame it in and put paneling up in the basement. While i am working on the basement my wife wants to pay someone to remodel our bathroom in the master bedroom. The house does not look near as bad as it sounds I swear! Oh year, I am having the driveway seals and glass block windows put in the basement in the next few weeks.
  22. on a good note, the plumber (my stepdaughters cousin) and I are replacing the clean out on my main stack tomorrow...another project down.
  23. Go to TSC or someplace other than walmart, I dont think they went up that high yet.
