  1. I like that idea. Also like the idea of disqualifying anyone from the next contest that wont bother to even post once in a blue moon.
  2. Local forums are waaaaay more actiive. I think that is the primary reason. FB is great i suppose (personally I dont use it) but folks like to post and get info on stuff in thier neighborhood. Just a natural progression.
  3. Was looking at the scoreboard and looks like you guys had a ruff year Tom :poke:
  4. I spend more time these days on my state forums as well, but still try to come in here and post most every day on something. Don't know what it is, but sure is a steady decline in participation in the few years I have been a member here. Lots of other social media sites, let alone all the state boards that have popped up.
  5. I'd give it one last shot this afternoon, but I know my wife has had her fill of it a long time ago, lol. Got to look forward to next year, and hopefully a good turkey encounter or two in between. I got to work harder next year, more stands, more trail cams out in late summer, maybe a couple more mineral sites. Something just isn't going right for us on our 1,500 acres, seem to be backing up in buck quality/quantity. I'll probably go out this weekend close to my house and start working on baiting hogs, maybe I can post one or two in the bow room in a month or so.
  6. Glad to hear it wasn't worse than it could have been. Will continue to keep you in thoughts and prayers Steve.
  7. I wouldn't post that buck now, he probably stinks pretty bad by now. Just call it a day folks, just call it a day.
  8. Saw nothing. Pretty lousy season, but had some fun and filled the freezer. Glad to be on such a great team, lets do it again next year!
  9. Well maybe it will hold. Never won but have made it to 2nd. On the stand now, getting too warm but had to go one last time. Maybe I'll get lucky but I doubt it. Cant kill one on the couch or at my desk at work either though.
  10. I want to find a good recipe for "limb soup" or something funny to rub it in good. Gotta kick 'em when they're down. He took off today and tomorrow to finish out the year, I do hope he gets another look, he hunts hard and this is probably the first weekend all season he hasn't took his bow. In his defense though, he went to a place to just sit on the ground near a creek crossing where he didnt have a stand, had barely gotten sat down when the buck came out, so shooting light I am sure was minimal, and I'm sure that tree faded into nothing.
  11. Welcome aboard! Got a few PA folks in here, not sure what part though. Great folks in here, stick around.
  12. I've only had one like that, years ago with a longbow. Thought I would miss a big sweet gum limb when I drew on a doe. I shot, the limb fell down and she ran.
  13. Mike Im so sorry to hear it. My wife has battled back pain for ten years I sure feel for you. It may have been all those huge cats you reeled in! I'll never forget that post u made! Hang in there freind.
  14. They were really moving this morning, first weekend day in many I didn't hunt, but I've about thrown in the towel. Will probably go Tuesday just to say I capped it off. Good morning, all my buds saw deer. Read this thread for a summary of the 12pt I had on cam and his near demise: http://www.realtree.com/forums/deer-hunting/107679-last-weekend-drama-short-sweet.html#post1290533
  15. My best friend was hunting this for 2 years hard and heavy, I got the occasional cam pic, but he really had his patternd down. He hunted him mostly with a bow year round, but last weekend he carried his .444 Barely got to his stand this morning and he ran 2 does out grunting all the way. He gave him a "baaaaa" and he stopped at 40 yards..... cross hairs dead on the shoulder and instead of killing this: He killed this: I hate it for my boy, but the deer went back across the creek and blew at him. He quickly went down the creek and started grunting again, and low and behold this dink came in and he hammered him as a cull: Hate I missed all the excitement, but last weekend or not, I've gotten disgusted with it all, sure wish somebody at our camp would have put some icing on the cake. Maybe next year.
  16. Good to know im not the only one. Plus i like to come from behind, when youre out front youre a target haha. Saw four does this morning. Heard one grunting and chasing up the rridge but never showed himself.
  17. No apology needed, I shoulda posted her up front. I guess after so many years taking decent bucks I just don't worry about entering them, along with our liberal season of 16 weeks and 5 does. But it wont happen again, next year I'm carrying pencil and paper and taking a pic of the first big fat nanny I get a pass through on opening weekend.... lol (good Lord willing). I did get my freezer full, 3 bow does, no misses, no lost deer, 2 pw does all spread over 3 counties, my lease and some private and family land. Went out today and only saw one buck, last legal shooting light, came out at 20 yards and I could not get a shot at him (a little thick there) he was a young 2.5 y/o 4pt really tall, brow tines not scoreable but I would have shot him on that little 48 acre tract today if he would have stepped out better. I caught myself grinning from ear to ear on the way back to the truck thinking how much your heartbeat can accelerate when you want to shoot something, but any other time it never misses a beat just looking at them. That's what I love so much about bowhunting, it only takes a doe at close range to get me going, hope I never lose that. Will be back at it in the morning, going to my lease, have to step up the rack size a tad, but will give it another shot. Season closes Tuesday, days are getting long, just hope to find a buck trying to pack in some calories in a plot after the rut. We'll see how it goes.
  18. Dan that was great, you definitely have a great piece of land to hunt there. I didn't watch the entire clip, will watch it later, but you surely did well to pass that one up given his potential, he would not have gotten the pass card in front of me down here. I didn't pause it to try to guess score but surely impressed me into the P&Y class, will no doubt be something to look at if he can stick around for you one more year.
  19. I agree 100% Tracy. Seems like every year in the RT contests you have folks that post not one time. Last year seems like we had 2 that never made a post. Why even put your name in the hat?
  20. Well done Anthony! Great to spend some time for such a great cause, you're a class act my friend.
  21. Still quite a few dog hunters down here in MS. Season is broken up as to when they can and can't run them. I've been on several dog hunts over the years, there's nothing like a pack burning one up about to break out in a cutover. That being said, I wouldn't trade it for still hunting for nothing in the world. It's also it's a real PITA to have dogs run over on your lease and mess up everything, but I wouldn't jump on the bandwagon to outlaw them like many have down here, I realize it's a heritage. Only a generation ago deer were pretty scarce and dogs were about the only way you could get a shot or even lay eyes on one. I still love to get in on a good rabbit hunt with some good beagles in Feb when our deer season closes. About as much fun as you can have really, love to hear a good dog work.
  22. Looks similar, but function differently i think I just was reading something on these on another forum, thought they looked pretty innovative, thought I'd pass it along. I may pick up some, may not, I like shooting mechanicals, but have just had hang-ups on the two that I've shot so far.
  23. May not last long, we'll see. Went out yesterday and saw a couple does. Went ahead and took doe #5 gonna try to hunt as much as i can but not looking good. Sorry I couldn't pull my weight this year, just wasn't in the cards I guess. Been fun though, good to see some of you had some success.
  24. I may give a Montec a try as well. I guess if you hunt long enough you'll lose a deer to any point, but as we all know it only takes getting burned once (or the perception you were burned) to swear one off. I'd say out of the ten or so deer I have lost over the years 90% were either due to a head-on shoulder bone hit with very shallow penetration, little blood loss, or a high lung pass through with high exit holes. Both scenarios are bad news, and any BH will have a time compensating for such a bad shot.
  25. Definitely know what you mean, I still keep Muzzy in my quiver for the same reasons yall do, but have been shooting a new expandable every year or so last few years after many years being a fixed blade guy. I just like the flight of them at 40+ yards and the consistency, but all of them seem to have the same flaws. Just looked at this and seems to address some of that. I'll probably pick up a pack, been shooting 2-5 deer a year with the bow and hope to keep it up next year too. For what it's worth, out of the many I have killed, and the few that I have lost, I have never blamed the BH, for the ones I lost, I could always put a finger on the fault, be it me, or my failure to make sure my gear was in good order, including the rage doe I lost due to my rest getting bumped off.
