Merry Christmas to everyone at RT!

I shot this guy on 12-9 and he popped an antler off when he crashed. I thought he may have had an injury but he appeared to be in good shape.

Hope everyone at RT has a great Thanksgiving!

Congrats Ruth! With friends like that, I'll bet you don't have too many enemies! One more trip to Cabelas for the new crossbow and that should just about do it for this season, lol

uh ohhh! Guess we need to get back to work on em

This past spring I watched two yotes chase, catch, and kill a fawn that they separated from its mother. The little deer was screaming bloody murder as it tried to put some distance between them. The big doe was quick to catch up, and tried to drive them off at the kill site under an old apple tree in the goldenrod by stomping and snorting, but her efforts were pointless. At one point, one of the yotes lunged at her when she got too close to them while the other focused on finishing off the fawn. That was the first time I've ever seen anything like that around here. Unfortunately the grass was too tall for me to get any decent pics of the action. The yotes dragged off their lunch, while momma took off in the opposite direction. -

Yeah TG, I'll probably run one or two this fall and that will be it. I spend more time checking cams than I do hunting. I like doing my scouting the old fashion way..... boots on the ground, and in person with my handheld! For some reason hunting isn't as appealing to me as it used to be, so I'm trying to get back to my old style.

Dang, good to hear nobody got hurt. If you think about it, a cell phone store is the perfect place to pull off a heist like that. There's a good chance there's no phone booth around for Superman to slip into his cape! You're still our hero Tim,lol

I slapped this one together with this years gobbler parts. Cost me $12 in supplies and had it done in a week, lol.

Real nice catch there Hoosier! Congrats. Erie really is a great fishery, but it can switch from hot to cold any given day or hour. Where abouts did you set sail out of? I used to practically live on that lake and have seen first hand some of the trophy size SM, LM, perch, lakers, steelies, and walleye it produces. May has always been one of the top months out there for sizers IMO, but you could stay on the fish all summer long once you learn your way around. 34 fish in two days really isn't all that bad especially for a non resident.

Thanks Trevor! I used to be the same way, but after my first random encounter I started actually looking for them in known fawning areas and now I can't keep them away. I like to follow these little ones around throughout the summer, and at some point, they eventually start to get used to me and follow me instead!

Haha- I'm practically tripping over these things every morning on my way to the turkey blinds now. I spotted another reflection today that tipped me off to this guy in the creek bottom. Just a tiny glimmer that I almost thought was a drop of dew on the grass shining back at me. Here's #2! I'll call him "Dewie",lol

I don't go to the bathroom without a camera anymore, lol. Most of the time I carry two! I got lucky finding this little guy, but I'll start targeting them in a couple weeks when they get their legs under them and start venturing out from where momma leaves them.

Very nice man! Your nerves were no match for your bravery! Sounds like everyone made you feel welcome. Love the wardrobes and nice pics!

Hiking into my turkey blind yesterday morning when I bumped a deer. That's been happening every morning lately, so nothing unusual there. A little further along I spotted a little dot in my headlamp beam reflecting back at me so I went to check it out and here's what I found! I was getting a little carried away with pictures flashing in his face and forgot that I needed to pay attention to where momma was before she put the boots to me,lol. I forced myself to leave him after a few shots and went on to another exciting turkey hunt!
-
Thanks Ruth, I wish I had such success while hunting them too, but later this week I'll be the worst turkey hunter in the woods again and just be happy to hear one,lol
-
Thanks Maine Hntr! I usually don't get this lucky photographing turkey, but the gobblers have been very cooperative so far this spring. Season opens here May 1'st, so I hope there's still a few opportunities with the camera before then. I'll get out to hunt them a few times, but turkey hunting has never really been my thing so it doesn't really matter to me if I kill one or not.
-
Thanks Joe, I enjoy taking and sharing them! Here's a couple more from yesterdays hike. I called 3 more longbeards to the camera lens. They are on fire! Good luck to all the NY youth hunters this weekend!

I went for a hike today and got on some more gobblers! I heard one gobble on his own as soon as the snow stopped and the sun peaked out. I found an old downed tree to hide behind, so I quick set out my rubber chicken, lol I gave a few excited calls and I heard some serious double gobbling coming my way, so I got tucked in and waited. Birds were on a dead run to my decoy. First to show up was 5 hens, and then a jake and a longbeard stopped by for a little dance off before they moved up the hill to strut and gobble. They left the ladies behind, and I literally had hens within 5ft of me for about 10 minutes straight. I think I'm kinda starting to get the hang of this spring turkey stuff! Almost forgot.... I found an antler too! Before all the turkey got a chance to leave the area, this little deer showed up and practically kissed me.

Thanks guys, glad you liked! dbhunter- I was in apperature priority at F7.1 and ISO400- SS 1/500-800. Under the conditions, I probably should have dropped down to ISO 100 or 200 but I forget to reset my settings for the situation sometimes.

I think most of you all know by now, I'm not a real big turkey hunter dude.... so I was super surprised to call in this ol' boy today! He gobbled on his own from the field above me, so I unloaded the fakies from my pac and started looking for a place to hide. First place I noticed was the neighbors treestand...., so up, up, and away I went! I broke out the box cutter and let a few clucks and yelps rip, but he never responded. 15 minutes later he gobbled on his own again, and this time I knew he was coming! I could hear him spitting and drumming before I could see him. He gave my jake deke a good flogging and never looked twice at my hen 3ft behind him. My lens focus started messing up on me, so I missed a lot of the action shots of the can of whoop azz he opened up on my fake, but it was a good show to watch anyhow! You will all have to take my word for it!

Haha- RAID..?....sissy! Real rednecks use gas and a match for all their exterminating needs. Then you gotta duct tape the sucker in there after you light the fuse to make sure he suffers!
