Back in early muzzleloader I was out huntin on a property that doesnt have much competition. Anyways while I was sitting in the summit a big flock of turkeys came around the ridgeside. About 5 minutes after that I noticed a black blob in a thick et down below me about 75 yards, I figured it was just another turkey but the texture of it's hide didnt look right, I put the scope on it and about rolled out of my stand. It was a big BLACK bodied with a big white rack I could see through the limbs. All I could make out was 8-10 points but the mass was amazing on him. I never could tell width because he kept broadside. I took a rest off the tree stand and settled the crosshairs on his shoulder, cocked the hammer back and shot. When the smoke cleared he was still laying there, I was so excited I thought I had just completely rolled him, I turned my head and looked back and he was up and calmly walking away down the holler slowly, I reloaded my muzzleloader quicker than I believe I ever have. He stopped at about 100 yards now and I had a opening at his vital, I took a rest again and shot. This time I heard leaves a crunchin and him running away hard. I got down and loaded my muzzleloader again just incase. I look for blood and the deer for about 30-45 minutes before I go out and get my brother, I get him to help me look and we look for that thing fot about 3 1/2 hours in the dark, not finding anything except some big tracks from where he ran. My mother even let me stay home from school the next day and me and my cousin go back and look again for another 2 hours before coming back out. I decided to shoot my muzzleloader and see how it's shooting, after I cleaned it and shot it 2 times it was shooting 4 inches low which made me feel good in a way because I know I completly missed instead of a bad shot and that he's still out there. Have you all ever heard of a black deer, ever killed one or just seen one? This deer wasnt just a dark drown it was as black as night. So let me know if you have any info. Thanks, Luke

I missed out hunting this morning because of this dang H1N1 flu junk. It's honestly some of the worste stuff I've had but I don't hardly ever get sick. Gonna give it a try this evening if I'm feeling any better.

Saw around five does and one 4-point today. There was one giant doe I swear she looked black as coal she was so dark. If she would have came about 30 yards closer she might have had an arrow go through here..lol 4-point was all in range but wasn't what I was after.

My realtree outfitter series summit viper arrived yesterday. I'll be able to get back to them big bucks now and not have to worry about some piece of crap stealing my stand.
-
I'm also from Virginia and the realtree AP blends in very well with my terrain here, which can be pretty diverse. From open hardwoods, to cedar thickets, and 25 feet up in the tree
-
I've been seeing plenty of does and a couple button bucks. Only horns I've saw has been a tall and wide 4-point. I let him walk, The way he's built and how his antlers were he should be a brute if he lives past this season. Other than that I havent seen any other bucks

Virginia's archery season opens on Saturday. Hopefully I'll luck up, not sure.

I got mine at Bass Pro's and LOVE it! Can't see it the best but it says "Team Realtree" and has a little tag between the "hat" and bill that says eastablished in 1986(I think), and says that on the back as well. Realtree APHD color.

A very good friend of mines mother has had cancer for about 3 years now and has gradually been getting worse. The doctors have given her no chance of living 3 times but with God's help and her spirit she has pulled them and done better. But now last week the doctors really believe she has very small amount of time left as for the cancer is believe to be in her brain now and sent her home to be with her family to love and everything. This family is a great one. My friend, she is one of the most honest, friendliest people I've ever met, same with her mother. Her dad got out of the service when her mother became ill and is a very honest man. The family are strong christians. I know God has got just about everything planned out for us in his eyes but this family could really use your thoughts and prayers around this time. I spend everyday just wondering how hard it's goptta be for my friend, age 14, to know and feel her mother's time is limited. I hope she can pull through it this again and beat the cancer. Thank you very much, Luke p.s. typo in title "Good Family could use some prayers" is what it should be.

Okay, I have a ladder stand set in some oaks and I believe the deer use this loggin road next to where I'm set up to get from their cedar thicket bedding area to here to gorge on acorns. So I may set one up on the loggin road. Would some tinx 69 lure work, at the moments that all I have and a few scent bomb things, but I guess I could go get some deer urine if need be.

I know very little about these besides from the obviouse, it mocks a scrape.duh..lol I have heard people talk about them and they say they can be pretty dang effective but my questions are. What time of year do you start doing this, Where do you put them..next to your stands? and do you use any lure in the mock scrape like deer urine or anything?
