  1. I have a gerber blood light that works great(don't know the name). While tracking the doe I killed earlier this year, my dad and uncle argured for about 10 minutes of the correct direction to start dragging her to get back to the truck, and she only ran about 60 yards.
  2. When I was 8 I went from a ruger 10/22 to a Remington 700 .243. My dad and uncle cut the origional wooden stock to fit my length of pull and I killed many deer with the gun.
  3. I did one last year in the bathtub, local taxidermist said to let it set for 2-3 weeks and not to boil just set in water. I about got ran out of the house near the 3 week mark. The mount turned out great though!
  4. Wildgame innovations have a year warranty, When I have called them they give me a RA number and I pay the shipping (usually around $9) and they have sent me a new one still in the package like you would buy it at the store. Excellent customer service!
  5. A 10 year old rocket Hammerhead, he borrowed. Now he's looking for more, and they are difficult to find.
  6. It's always a great hunt just to see deer, congrats on the doe.
  7. My sister's boyfriend recently found interest in hunting, and ended up killing a 65 lb button head last year but never saw much more. This year I convienced him that he needed a bow because it was more fun. The day before our archery opener he started looking for a cheap used bow, and ended up buying an older Browning Micro Burner on September 15 (opening day of bow season) for $50. After buying a Whisker Biscuit, Tru Glo sight, and getting a new custom string made he had $160 in the bow. After shooting countless 3d targets to ensure that he was ready, we decided he was ready to hunt but to keep all his shots within 20 yards. Last night I let a basket 8 pass and it ended up headed his direction. I text him that it was coming and when it stepped out it was aound 30 yards, and it gave him a 15 yard quarting away shot. He said he stood full draw for over a minute waiting on a clear shot watching his bow shake. After he shot the deer (my sister was in the stand with him) she had to take his release off and help him sit down. I believe I have hooked another Bow hunter!
  8. I have recently found interest in 3-d archery, and I am looking to set up a few in my yard to shoot for practice and entertainment purposes. I'm looking for cheap targets in a varitey of animals that will hold up to as much shooting as possible for the money. What targets does everyone shoot and what are the pros and cons/I don't have to have tournament scoring, the vitals are fine, just something to shoot to stay in practice)
  9. I love the rockets, right now I'm shooting some 10-15 year old Rocket Hammerhead 4 blades that my dad bought when he started bow hunting several years ago. They do the job just fine.
  10. I take 4, 2 with rocket hammerheads, and 2 with field points. I used to carry 2 expandables and 2 fixed blades, but recently the expandables have just done the job and I haven't seen too many reasons to continue to carry the fixed.
  11. The best invention for bows since the compound design is a string stop! If it were me, I would just buy a LimbSaver String Decelerator and be done with! String Decelerator :: Archery :: Limb Saver
  12. "If you didnt bring jerky, what did I just eat" by Bill Heavey is an excellent book.
  13. As far as the fletching contact with cables, I changed the cable slide on my Truth 2, and did have slight contact with the cables (nothing out of tune, no cam lean and paper and group tuned great) but I did have to shoot kind of a cocked vane to the right a fraction of an inch from straight up, to get the tolerance that I needed. Through the WB this was not a problem, but I could see where with another brand of rest this would not work.
  14. Using a peep sight will definately make the bow more accurate. It's like having a rear sight on a rifle with open sights. Where your vanes are hitting the cables, depending on the rest but with a biscuit you can cock the arrow just a little and keep them out of the black part on the bottom and help miss the cables. As far as vane length goes, I will not shoot anything different than a 2 inch BLAZER Vane!
  15. Good Luck, The heat is a tricky thing. Right now I'm hunting food plots in buddy stands with burlap so I can go in shorts to help with the heat. They seem to be moving that last hour before dark pretty regular around here.
  16. I was shooting 9.0 gpi BEMAN's at a total of 367 grains. Yesterday I bought the Carbon Express PileDrivers (not because I had issues, the BEMAN's gave me good pass throughs, just needed new arrows) at 10.4 gpi with a total arrow weight of 431 grains. Back to 30 yards they seem to fly about the same. I was wandering what weight others were shooting and how they performed.

    New Bow

Congrats on the new bow.Right now, I'm shooting the BEEMAN mfx Bone Collectors. They are great arrows, but right now any arrow that is heavy enough and in my opinion has Blazer vanes is an excellent arrow. THe only reccomendation that I have is if you shoot the BEEMAN's or Easton's don't shoot the HIT (Hidden Insert Technology) inserts. All I have found they do is cause the end of the arrow to bust/fracture a lot easier than a traditional insert.
  18. I shot this doe this evening at 7:30. Last night, on our opener I saw 6, but none that presented an ethical shot. Went back tonight and the Truth 2, sent a Rocket Hammerhead through her. She weighed 92 lbs.
  19. The best range finder is one that works! Right now I use the BUshnell Bowhunter, Chuck Adams Edition and it works great. I'm not exactly sure about how correct the shoot like distance is, but the range finder works great and has never let me down. That being said, I have a little experience with all range finders from the $100 WildGame innovations Halo, to the higher end Leupolds, Nikons. They all have their flaws because they are electronics, but when they work properly, there isn't one that works better than another.
  20. With 2 people on our field and around 10 on the adjacent field, both people on our field killed our limits, and several people on the other did as well.
  21. Over the past 2 years, I have used one of every kind of trail camera used except the Recoynx(too much money for me) and I have found that the Bushnell Trophy Cam is the best. I have used it for a year and a half, changed the batteries once. Has 3pm, 5mp, and 8mp settings, very quick trigger time at $220. I have used the WildGame cameras, they take great pictures but in the heat of summer and cold of winther 4 D or C batteries don't last but 2-3 weeks. This runs the price of a $80 camera up by $6-$7 at a time.
  22. I work for a "big box" sporting goods store, that carries the 3 pack 100 grains for 34.99, but the 6 pack 100 grains are 39.99. That may be something that you want to look at, because it still comes out to $20 for 3 if you buy the 6 pack. Hope this helps.
