I also believe that the hunting pressure will definitely have an effect, and is the biggest reason that I decided to run the study from opening day, to the last day to see if hunting had an effect, how long would it take before the deer changed their pattern.

Are you shooting the traditional compound bow Rages or the new ones that they have introduced that are marketed towards the crossbow? I heard that the rages would open in flight out of a crossbow? and thought that was why the introduced the new ones.

Who else is shooting a Buck Commander??

NAP HellRazors!! They fly like fieldpoints in crossbows as well as compound bows. -
I am doing an undergraduate research project for school on how white tail deer feeding patterns are effected by the moon on a certain piece of property (This is a piece of property that is not hunted, but the surrounding areas will probably be hunted heavily). I have established a food source, am getting good pictures of deer, and plan to run a camera on the feeder from september 15 (our archery opener) to january 1(gun closer). I plan to document when the moon is directly overhead, under foot, and the phase that the moon is in and when the deer feed according to these times. I also plan to keep up with the high and low temperature for each day as well as the cloud cover to see if it has any impact on how the deer react to the moon. I am wandering if anyone who has taken pictures of deer in comparison to the moon has any suggestions or reccomendations to other stuff that I should be looking for or documenting during the study? Thanks

You will have no problem, I have acctually experienced more "problems" with the longer fletchings and the whisker biscuit. If you take a 4 or 5 in fletching arrow and pull it through the biscuit slowly, you will see that they twist as they go through. That said I have never saw any problems where they didn't fly straight due to this, it just looks to me that it has the potential to cause more problems than the shorter 2 in fletchings.

If brace height were as big of an issue as it used to be, yes. The reason that a longer brace height is more forgiving is that the arrow isn't on the string near as long (the distance from full draw to the resting position), therefore it allows the shooter to be able to torque/move the bow between the time you trigger your release and the time that the arrow has left the string inflight. But with the new bows (especially PSE) the shorter brace heights are more effective in this aspect because they accelerate so much faster, thus causing the arrow to leave faster and making the shorter brace height as forgiving. The answer to your question, the drop away rest will not effect how long the arrow is on the string. Sorry for the lengthy response.

I tried them, broke two shooting the target from the blind before the hunt. When the second broke, I had it shooting a little high, but was ok with it. The birds come in and I shot over one. I found the arrow but never found the broadhead. The threads broke off in the inserts.

Has anyone tried the guillitine style broadhead from Magnus?

I killed a 15 lb bird with a 7 inch beard on Saturday the second day of the season. Pictures to come.

I would not buy used! I work at a shop where we often see used bows that have fractured limbs or need more parts and end up with more money in the bow than it's worth. If I was looking for a good cheap starter bow, I would look at the Martin line. The entry level is 319.99 plus tax with a decent fiber optic sight, 2 prong rest, peep, and quiver. The bow is ready to shoot for that price. The only thing that you need is arrows and you are getting decent quality product for a good price.

I'm using a Nikon Team Primos 3-9 x40 BDC now on my 7MM Rem Mag X-bolt. Great scope for the money, I believe that it has been replaced by the Monarch now.

On the radio before the second dual yesterday Michael Waltrip said that to he wanted to finish 2nd to Dale Jr, and that it would be bigger that finishing second to Jr. at Daytona in July of 2001. The way he sounded they were going to try, and July of 2001 was probly rigged as well.

I cannot get pictures, just gray imaging with roads listed. I need help.

Thanks, I have the Bushnell Chuck adams range finder with angle of elevation, but it is only 1-2 yards off of the actual distance so I just used the normal range and set my sights to it before, but if it is that close then I will just begin to use the angle of elevation the range finder gives.

Has anyone here shot a NAP Quiktune Freedom dropaway? I've read mixed reviews, and they either loved or hated the rest but there were no inbetweens, so I was wandering if anyone here had an opinion.

I cut my own at work where we have the device, but with anything with a thin cutting wheel where you can build a jig with clamps will work just the same. We use a torch to heat the inserts to make the glue turn loose so we can use the same, then put them back in with a 2 part epoxy.

Thanks, that's a great book/journal with excellent information. I read several parts of it and printed it and filed it for future use.

I recently finished my first euro mount ( I plan to post pictures soon) and all I did was let the skull soak in a bucket of water for 3 weeks. It took a little longer than 8 hours but did not cost me that much money either.

As far as soil samples you may want to look at the local ag-university. I know that in South Carolina, Clemson will look at your soil and tell you what you need to do to be the most beneficial to the white-tail population.

I use Tinks #1 doe pee, as a cover scent while walking into a stand just to cover any human scent that I may have missed and to make it smell like a deer has recently been in the area. 1-10? I have no clue it dosen't seem to help or hurt just there as more of a comfort to myself than anything.

I recently aquired an old bow that has Easton/Hoyt on the risor but really nothing else. It was bought at a yardsale for $10 and looks like a functional bow but is missing the cable slide and the hole is not threaded. Does anyone know where you could find something that will work, one man said that you may be able to J.B. Weld one in but i would like to see if I could see the correct guide before trying to fabricate. Thanks

That's a good deer. I know around here I fed corn all summer around the food plots, and got several pictures of a decent 8 point traveling the property but nothing consistant. As it got closer he became more consistant and had a rub line going through the middle of our property. I personally believe that the food source kept him close so when he finally decided to choose a home for the winter he stayed there even after the corn was gone.

Currently I have my sights set at 20, 30, and 40 from 20 feet up, and do not do much flat shooting at all. My question is do you set your sights for shooting off of level ground and compensate for elevated shooting or are your sights set for elevation so you do not have to think about them while in the stand.
