I'm not debating on whether or not it works, but at what point is it taking the hunting aspect out of hunting. I, like many others, wear clothes to cover up my scent and spray down, etc... But Ozonics, to me, just seems like its taking it too far.
Humans around stand.
I don't know much about them. All I know is that there are a bunch of bright orange mushrooms that grow all over the place and restaurants pay good money for.
Best broad head
For fixed blade, I recommend Muzzy MX 3 or Muzzy 100gr. Never used mechanicals. I think it's more of a personal preference to be honest with you.
I set a ladder stand up for opening of bow season in 2 weeks. The farm I hunt on is a working farm and one thing produced is mushrooms. My question is: If somebody were to pick mushrooms around my stand prior to opening weekend, is that going to keep the deer from coming around or by it? It is a working farm so there always seems to be trucks and an atv and people out and about the farm.
Rangefinder batteries
It just says GP lithium battery. I bought energizer to replace it. As far as I know it is just one mode of ranging. It is a Redfield Raider 500.
Rage broadheads.
I have heard a lot of horror stories about Rage. May not be the case for all Rage broadheads, but I've heard enough not to trust them. Are there any good reliable mechanicals that fly like a field point?
lets see 'em
Diamond "The Rock" 28" 60#
Trophy Ridge Revolution rest
Cobra sights
AXT carbon stabilizer
Gold Tip XT Hunter 5575 arrows
Muzzy 100gr. Might pick up some mechanicals.
Tru Fire Hurricane release.
I like to try different scent killers. Does anybody use it or have any bad experiences with it? My guess is that it's like every other scent killer on the market. I just like to try new products.
Mechanicals
Jeramie: "Even though they arent my favorite I am carrying 3 rage in my quiver. I am still slinging my 100grn Muzzy but if I get the chance to thump a doe with a rage I will do so to see how they perform."
Even though you sight in with fixed blades, you are still able to hit a deer with a mechanical or do you have 3 different arrows in your quiver sighted in for mechanicals?
Opening weekend setup.
I should have a South wind so assuming the deer read the script and come from where they are supposed to... the wind will be good. The thing about a spot like mine is that deer could legitimately come from anywhere.
Early Season Clothing
Not sure about Minnesota, but down here in SC it will most likely be in the 90s if not worse when the season opens in Sugust. As for clothing, I wear a short or maybe long sleeve Under Armour type shirt and a pair of light camo pants and snake boots. I may not have the best scent protection technology, but as hot as it gets down here you pretty much have to wear that. I have a Scent Lok Savannah shirt that is supposed to be ok for early season but even it is too hot to wear in the early season.
I always hear that your first time in a stand is your best chance at killing a deer in it. I'd like to hear everybody's opening day/weekend setup and everybody give feedback on other's setup. Mine is a 15 ft ladder stand in an opening between some woods and a pond. The area is surrounded by woods and is right next to a couple large oaks. The deer should be moving through it to go by the pond then eventually on to a field. I sat here last year in a climber and had a nice 8pt walk in behind me but turn around and leave. I had a shot at him but I already took my buck for last season. I also had a doe come in at 10 yds but couldn't get turned to get a shot. It should be a great spot and hopefully have a buck or two come through in shooting light.
