Re: our lobster season opens Monday What kind of broadhead do you use for those critters!

Re: Fun in Deer processing (pics) That looks like fun! Thanks for the pics!!!!!!

Re: Farmland or Forest? It depends on the acorn crop. If there's acorns, I hit the woods. If not, I'll setup between the wood and meadows.

Re: Blaming a weapon I've noticed (in my opinion) during these type of tradegies that if the killer is shot dead, it seems more emphasis is put on the weapon (i.e. assault rifle), but if the killer is still alive, more emphasis is put on him/her. It's like we channel our attention to the one last thing we can put our hands on. That's what I see anyway.

Re: Who ISN\'T in the woods today? I had plans to until my boy wrecked the truck yesterday. He's okay, but we'll be turning wrenches this w/e. Could be alot worse, so I'm

Re: Moonshine! Yep, I'm guilty. Being from WV, imagine that!

Re: RT Forum Members Violating Hunting Regulations Iowa, That's why I asked the question if it was legal. I could be the one that is wrong.

Re: RT Forum Members Violating Hunting Regulations Just for the record, this post was about someone on this forum boasting about killing more deer than allowed in a bag limit. I sent them a PM yesterday and they have not replied. I merely asked the question if it was legal. If it is, then I will stand corrected. If not, becareful what you post! This is the second time I've read this (from two different members) about exceeding bag limits. It was not a "stir the pot" post. It's better we learn HERE now vs the game warden citing us after we did something illegal although we thought it to be lawful. I've been there before too. To overlook those things isn't right.

Re: crazy doe stalked me Iowabowhuntinfool, WV has issued permits in the past so farmers could clear out deer when the population was high, rain was short, and the grass in meadows was even shorter and the deer had reachable foliage eaten. Several got shot and never eaten. It was a management tool. Not a nice scenario, but needed.

Re: Beman vs. Easton vs. Goldtip Can't speak for the other two, but I love the way my GT XT55/75's shoot. Tough and accurate.

Re: New GPS! Unfortuneately GARMIN has several models of the "etrex" line. Some are much better than others. A basic etrex is about $99 vs an etrex Vista for $200-300 depending on the store. The basic models do not have the ability to download to your computer. I have the Vista, and when I go scouting for deer, I can save all the deer sign and implant that toward a topo map and save it for next hunting season. The cheap ones can't do that. They are not equal.

Re: GPS accuracy [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] flat ground so that the gps unit will pick up the land based WAAS signals [/ QUOTE ] There are only two WAAS satellites. One over the Atlantic Ocean, and one over the Pacific Ocean. The WAAS satellites will be numbered 33 or HIGHER! I just got a Etrex Vista (for $218 I might add!) and reading the manual will tell you this! Although I have much to learn yet. I will master this thing! LOL!!! [/ QUOTE ] This is my reference: http://www.garmin.com/aboutGPS/waas.html What is yours and we can compare notes!

LOL!!! jnamo, was there a lot of leaves still on the tree's? If so I believe you just were not picking up a good signals from the satellites! The manual clearly states foliage will interferre with the signal! [/ QUOTE ] Really? Maybe you can explain the WAAS system better than GARMIN? The origins of WAAS The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) are developing the WAAS program for use in precision flight approaches. Currently, GPS alone does not meet the FAA's navigation requirements for accuracy, integrity, and availability. WAAS corrects for GPS signal errors caused by ionospheric disturbances, timing, and satellite orbit errors, and it provides vital integrity information regarding the health of each GPS satellite. How it Works WAAS consists of approximately 25 ground reference stations positioned across the United States that monitor GPS satellite data. Two master stations, located on either coast, collect data from the reference stations and create a GPS correction message. This correction accounts for GPS satellite orbit and clock drift plus signal delays caused by the atmosphere and ionosphere. The corrected differential message is then broadcast through one of two geostationary satellites, or satellites with a fixed position over the equator. The information is compatible with the basic GPS signal structure, which means any WAAS-enabled GPS receiver can read the signal. Who benefits from WAAS? Currently, WAAS satellite coverage is only available in North America. There are no ground reference stations in South America, so even though GPS users there can receive WAAS, the signal has not been corrected and thus would not improve the accuracy of their unit. For some users in the U.S., the position of the satellites over the equator makes it difficult to receive the signals when trees or mountains obstruct the view of the horizon. WAAS signal reception is ideal for open land and marine applications. WAAS provides extended coverage both inland and offshore compared to the land-based DGPS (differential GPS) system. Another benefit of WAAS is that it does not require additional receiving equipment, while DGPS does.

Re: RT Forum Members Violating Hunting Regulations I've seen a few bag limits exceeded. Sometimes I think asking the obvious question like: "is that legal?" works. The last time I never got a reply.
-
What would be the appropriate way to handle RT Forum members who come on to message boards and openly say they did "this or that" when you know it violates the states hunting regulations? Do you send a PM, ask about it in the open, forget it, or what? Or have you never noticed it?
-
My etrex Vista will say: "weak signal, need clear view of the sky" or something near to that. I've never seen an "error" message though. It has WAAS, but I've never turned it on. I'm no expert, but I think you have to have relatively flat ground so that the gps unit will pick up the land based WAAS signals. If the accuracy was 100 yds, it wasn't picking up the better satellite signals.

Re: Anyone But Gordon! [ QUOTE ] Yeah, and he lost 25 points. [/ QUOTE ] That's not the point. The deduction came after the race for something done intentionally. Anyway, now back to the subject. Someone in question causing the yellow and not going down a lap.

Re: Anyone But Gordon! Didn't Jr stay on the lead lap when he spun himself out? I think he did! And he caused the caution.

Re: 2004 WINSTON Cup Standings Yep, that is screwed up. And if Pittsburgh, New England, or the Eagles go 15-1 and get beat in the playoffs and someone wins the Super Bowl with a lot less wins, that must be screwed up too.

Re: Realtree\'s milk river hunt!!! I've watched them shoot at several ASA Pro-Am's and they are good. If they want to shoot at 60 yards, go for it. It's their perrogative and they have to live with the outcome.

Clemson and USC stated they would not accept bowl bids for the fight that took place this past weekend. It WAS on a large scale (fighting). But why is fighting in hockey accepted, but in football it's the big "oh my gosh, we can't do that?" hmmmmm

Re: Tough Situation, Need help. [ QUOTE ] Here is the problem I am having. I hunt on a certain farm. Directly to the west the farmers brother owns a farm. He allows a bunch of losers to hunt, and doesn't really care what they do. So these guys keep coming onto MY farm, I found them in one of my stands. My farmer is really bothered by what they are doing & how they hunt. He keeps saying he is going to post that end of the property, and said he has now bought the signs. BUT, he just doesn't get around to it.. My problem is, how do I get him to do it. I don't want to sound pushy, or cause any problems between him & his brother, I would just like him to hang the signs he said he was going to... What would you guys do? [/ QUOTE ] I'd grab a hammer and some nails and say: "Let me do that for you." And with his permission: "getr done."

Re: Too many acorns? Yep, if the acorns are thick, the deer prefer them vs. grass or pasture. Head for the woods!
