Re: bow season/muzzleloader season If you hunt South Carolina, you've got the choice of M.L. or bow. They've got a primative weapons season and it's either or. There is not a specified bow season or a M.L. season. It's just hard to hunt, because it's still in the 90's to 100's during that primative season.

Re: Pope and Young? I'll be in this one, I'm waiting to get my P&Y records book. I got my buckin 2003, I just slid in with a 129 2/8" 10 point. Look for Kevin Ellingwood in there. Came close again this year, but just didn't want to try and squeeze an arrow through the limbs. He was about a 150-160 class buck. Oh well, maybe next year. Happy New Years folks and be safe!

whisker biskut aff. speed or flite i need to know?
Straight Shooter replied to VermontHunter's topic in Bowhunting
Re: whisker biskut aff. speed or flite i need to know? Actually, the biscuit doesn't slow down the arrow at all, if the bow is tuned right. I agree about the older version of the biscuit, but the newer is a head above it. A helical shot 4 fps faster than a straight fletch out of a biscuit, if that tell you anything about fletching contact through a biscuit. You tune it right and you've got one of the best rest one the market. -
Re: Copper John sigts vs. Trophy Ridge your thoughts They are both excellent sights. BUT, the Trophy Ridge is not a target sight, it's one heck of a hunting sight. The Copper John is good for either one. I've been shooting Copper John for the last few years and love them on my hunting set-up. I have to give the brighter sights to the Matirix's. I personally don't care for the vertical pin alignment. But, that just preferance and my opinion.

Re: Switchback It just toally amazes me how this can go from a questin about a bow and it turns into my is better than yours. Let's just answer the question and not start a war here. I am not a Mathews shooter, but I don't clam one bow is better than another. A good shooter can take any bow and make it shoot. [ QUOTE ] It's all in what feels best to you. [/ QUOTE ]

Re: Passing up bucks... Last year I passed on 8 smaller bucks, before I shot my 10 point in Ohio. This year in Ohio I passed up about the same number and didn't take a buck. Around here in NC, if it walks out with antlers, it's getting one slung at it. There a big difference between the areas I hunt. This can be a loaded question from state to state, due to Regulations.

Re: Tree Wizz! First I've heard of one. I just use a Gatorade bottle wrapped in camo duct tape. Rinse it out after each hunt and your good to go. Contains the smell of urine as well.

Re: Time spent on stand??( Bow) All season and still waiting. I shot at one in Ohio, but those darned branches just don't like an arrow. Or should I say an arrow just don't like those branches. LOL

Welcome to the forums USA! My brother just called me last night about the Switchback. He's all excited, him being a Mathews man. It seem to be a cross between the Outback and MQ bows. It's got the speed of the MQ and the smoothness of the Outback. It's also got a great price of 750.00 on it, as well. I'm sure they be less in some areas. The new Bow-tecs are supposed to be a hot item as well.

Re: heartbreaker I feel your pain there, grunt. That's what makes bowhunting so exciting and frustrating. Consider this a lessoned learned this season. A shot slightly off, a deer will run for ever. Bottom line is, if it's right in the boiler room, they'll usually go down within sight. Nervous deer are another story, but it's fun getting to see more that you would if it was gun hunting. Deer aren't actually ducking the arrow, they are simply dropping down to start their run away at the sound of a strange noise. Think about it, do you jump standing straight up. We bend at the knee's and leap. Good luck to you next season and welcome to the world of bowhunting.

Re: NEED TRACKING HELP QUICKLY!! I'm glad you found him. I guess my leg theory was shot all to heck. LOL Great job on all of your efforts and recovering that deer. Congratulations!
-
Re: NEED TRACKING HELP QUICKLY!! Sounds like a lower leg or brisket shot to me. Not a whole lot of blood, but it's bright red. I wish you two the best, but it doesn't sound like your going to find that deer. I tracked two deer this year just like what your explaining and they are still walking around. Best of luck on finding it.

Sorry guys, I just don't agree with taking a poll on who would be willing to break the law on taking a protected animal. I wouldn't want any activist to get a print out of the topic on the hunters who admitted they would shoot an out of or non-seasonal animal, just because it posed an oppertunity. It would kind of give us hunters and Realtree forums a bad name.

Your goals for the competitive archery league

Re: decoys Well, I took the plunge and did the decoy thing this year. Needless to say, I've got two Renzo decoy's for sale, at a bargain price! LOL I used one and both of them in different situations and got the same reaction on both. They didn't like them! A Doe went crazy out in a field for a hour and a half. She couldn't make up her mind to take a dump or get off the pot. Used the doe in the woods on a scrape line and had a 100" buck in full rut. (He got shot the next weekend, during gun) It stopped he dead in his tracks, but that was it. He went the other way. I used scent eliminator and deer scents. I didn't put the scents on the decoy's, but on the ground. That was recommended! Maybe I did something wrong with them, but like others. I watched video's and did research on how to set them up properly, wind direction, etc. So, if someone wants a couple of slightly used Renzo buck and doe decoy's, it'll cost you $15.00 a piece plus shipping.

Re: Exploding Carbon Arrows (graphic): I agree with GusTwinds. I've shot carbons for years now and have had no problems with the doing anything of that nature. Except when hitting a tree and it's to late by then to even think about putting it back on the string. LOL I inspect every arrow that slaps in a target or is hit by another arrow. It's just as much responsibility of the shooter to check their equiptment as the manufacturer's to make good equiptment. JMO I hope this guy is alright, carbon can caused a very back infection, with all the fibers left in the wound.

Re: Caring for clothes in the off season? Nope, it's not. I do the same thing except for the plastic bags. I get the snap lid tote-tainers, wash my clothes with scent-free detergant, dry with earth scent sheets, and store with earth scent wafers and left over dryer sheets. I love the smell of dirt! LOL What's that moto? You can never do a enough to fool a deers nose!

Re: holier than thou forum members Yes Doc, it is a perfect place for this discussion. I think Canine has more than explained himself, it's just a lot of people are disecting every little comment he is making. Just like what is happening to me. Go figure!
