Re: Paper Tuning your bow Paper tuning is usually done from about 3 feet away from the end of the bow to the paper. Once you've determined correct arrow size and weight. You can then paper tune. If your having a hard time paper tuning, your either over or under spined on your arrow shaft. You'll not be able to adjust this out with the rest. You will either have to adjust your bow poundage, change arrows, change weight of the shaft, these are just a few things that paper tuning tells you.

Re: Past 25 yards Hutchies, How long have you been shooting a bow? Just from reading your post, it sounds like you've been shooting for a few years. There's a couple of questions I've got. I don't know about you, but I'm not too confident in a volleyball sized group before I go into the woods. Have you checked the center shot/square of your rest? How often do you shoot your bow? Are you shooting a two cam or one cam bow? If it's a two cam, it could be your timing has gone out. This is fixed by twisting the cables. Your tiller could be out, this will change your knocking point There's a lot of factors here and only changing your pin sights aren't going to make your groups go bad. Keep us posted on your progress and good luck.

Re: ThremaCELL to heat a scent pad? That's a good idea. I think I'd put some on the pad and let it dry, then place in the T-C. The aroma will still come out as it is heated up. I'll have to run that idea by my neighbor, he's got one and we'll try anything before hunting season. LOL

Re: Face Paint It's mostly preforence. I've tried both and like the head net the most. It serves as a dual purpose, in early season. Concealment and keeps the critters off my face.

Re: This tick anyone else off? Yes, it gets aggrevateing to see this. Knowing good and well as a hunter what really goes on. As stated before, it's TV. It's got to look as humane as possible for those select few individuals and they still complain about showing a animal getting shot. It's okay to show to guys in an octagon beating eachother senseless, bloody, and unconscious. Go figure that one! I know wresteling is fake! LOL It's the UFC I'm referring to! LMBO

Re: Another Peep Question? It could turn into a problem if it completely comes unraveled. Do what Snapper said and try to tighten it back up. Any clear nail polish will work, they also make some stuff called "hard as nails" . It's clear nail polish and works great. I keep a bottle of it in my accesary box for any reserving I do. When it dries, the odor will go away.

Re: Peep Sorry R99, I just read your post after I posted a reply back to Tom. LOL

Re: Peep No, that is not unusually low. I got to thinking about about what I had said and it's the exact oposite of that. The closer together the peep and nock are, the lower the pin cage/sight are going to be. It's just like a gun barrel. You move the rear sight up the barrel will move up. I used to anchor on the side of my cheek and all of my sights even the cage was at the bottom of the adjustment. I'm not telling you to change your anchor, it's your call from there. Sorry about the confusion.
-
Re: Peep Hey Tominator, the reason for your sight being low all the time is your anchor is low. This means your peep is higher on the string, which this is the distance of the peep to the nock on the string. Back to the peep's, I've used the fletcher peep for years now and have had no problems with it. The only draw back to using it is, getting it to retain memory. But, that just takes time and a few trips to the bow press. But ones it's set, it stays and come to postion at full draw. No tubes, no strings and anything to hinder it.

Re: Aluminum..Fixed Wing Penetration!! Not to argue on these pictures and I could be wrong. These are excellent pictures and a great demonstration, but this joint looks like the elbow of the front leg. A hip bone has a ball joint on the end of it. I'm being the devils advocate here, but that is a perfect side to side shot on a the bone. It's just my assumption that if the deer was turning, it would be a front to back shot of the bone hit in the hip. I'm not doubting anything about the pentration and broadhead performance, it just looks like an oppostie shoulder hit to me. I'd would have never tought a razor tipped/all cutting edged braodhead would go through bone like that. Great pic's!

Re: Muzzy I've hunted with Muzzy's for the last 13 years with great success. I did however have problems getting the 4-blade to fly or hit consiistently. I used the 100 grain 3-blade up until four season ago and switched tot he 75 grain 3-blade. That made all the difference in the world at 40 yards. Went from a 4" group at 40 yards to not being able to shoot at the same spot. I'll take that any day. As for practice blades. Anyone needing some for 75 grain Muzzy's, I've got a full pack, maybe more. Let me know and they'll be yours, FREE. Nothing wrong with them, I just use old razor blades for practice.

Re: Question for ya??? Opening day, there's no question about it. Game is ON! If it's brown, it's down. I don't pass up the first deer of the year. Bring on the WHACK and the watch the face slide! LOL

Re: Top 5 Don't sit in a squeaky/noisey stand. Don't go into the woods without knowing your equiptment is in perfect working order. Don't shoot your field tips, and screw on FIXED blades thinking it's ready to go. Pratice with them as well. Don't put all the pins on a 10 yard deer, thinking you'll hit it. I promise you'll MISS. Don't go into the woods with out lots of practice, practice, pratice.

Re: My arrow smells.. bad! Sounds like you shot a skunk instead of a groundhog! LOL I've shot some of them in the gut and didn't have that prbolem of it stinking. Like was said above, was it with soap and warm/hot water. That should take care of the smell.

Re: ?does anyone use the chat room? I tried for about 30 minutes to get in the other night. Wouldn't take my password or user name. I finally gave up. I don't know what the problem is.

Depending on the date of opeing day this year. If it's the 5th of Sept. it's 84 days, if it's the 12th of Sept. it's 91 days, until bow season is HERE!!

Re: Switched broadheads for this year. Be sure and check your laws of those Tekans, Josh. Some states are considering them to be a barbed head, because they lock in place. Personally I don't see the difference between a fixed head and one of those after it's opened. I'd want the blades to stay in place.

Re: Hey ladies!!!!!!!!! Hey, a woman that thinks ahead of the game! Gotta love it!
-
Re: Bow poundage! I for got to add, that my hunting bow is on 65#. With todays bow's you don't need a whole of of poundage/draw weight.

Re: Hey ladies!!!!!!!!! If I had a wife who hunted, I would be in paradise! Hunting in a double stand! I think I could handle that. Hi Lori, I just thought I'd drop in and say "HI"! The same to rest rest of you beautiful women!

Re: NW Pa buck pics, 06/05 Can you say Bachelor group. LOL Awesome picture and good luck this season!

Re: How old were you? I was 20 years old in 1987, shot a doe in SC with a .308 Remington Woodsmaster. No picture, but it's still in my mind like yesterday.

Re: Bow poundage! Low poundage for 3-D, that's the only way to go. My 3-D rig is on 57# with a 303 grain arrow. It's shooting 282fps. Shooting a heavier poundage for that much shooting can cause some bad habits to create. Keeping your bow shooting muscles in shape is a big part of it. I still get my hunting bow out and shoot it through out the summer. Shooting a lower poundage through the 3-D season helps with holding and follow through, which makes for great form. That's what you need for good flawless shots and this builds confidence, not bad habits. Shooting a higher draw weight will cause punching the trigger, cause your arrow to crawl, and dropping your arm to quick after the trigger is pulled. Resulting in a bad follow through. I'm not telling anyone to not shoot a high draw weight in tourney's, I've just seen it cause more problems then help. JMO

Going after woodchuck with my bow..
Straight Shooter replied to Squirrelhunter91's topic in Bowhunting
Re: Going after woodchuck with my bow.. Broadheads work great on those boogers! I've taken several woodchuck/groundhogs with my bow. Just try and make head/neck shots, it drops them in their tracks. Good luck!
