Re: Alabama get-together sign up I will try and make it, and the next weekend would be better. My mothers B-day is the 13th. I've also got to look to see were Guntersville is. LOL

Re: First Time Flecther Help I use a Jo Jan fletcher for my shafts and I shoot the 5575's. The Jo Jan works great with any shaft, aluminum or carbon. I'd get some emory cloth in about 400 grit, I just use this to rough the surface up, but since your cresting your arrow, nix that idea. Alcohol works great for cleaning the shafts before you fletch them, acetone will take your crestings off. I don't use super glue, it tends to react with some plastics and is more brittle in colder weather. Fleth-tite glue in the red and white tube is about the best on the market for fletchings. Scribing your jig is a good idea for consistant fletching alignment. Just be sure to re-set the arrow after each rotation on the base jig. It'll move from time to time on you if the knock are loose fitting in the V-notch. You'll get the hang of it in no time, just take your time and it'll all work out.

Good luck to you and your buddies on the bowhunt. I'm try to schedule a hunt in Northern Texas sometime this year. I like it, that even non-residents don't have to have a liscense to hunt the hogs. Welcome to forums as well!

Re: ARROW WEIGHT FOR DEER??????? My arrows are set up at 380 grains on 65# and blast through any deer. Go with what works or shoots best with your set up.

Re: 2006 Competition scores I'm bummed, the weather killed the chances of me making the first 3-D on the year, here in NC. I guess I'll try to make the one this coming weekend. I'm itching to get out and shoot some foam! Keep up the great shooting guys.

Re: Blind Hunting!!!! I had the Ameristep Doghouse, and tried it out groundhog hunting, summer before last. It was very cramped and I could only draw back in one direction, from corner to corner. Soooooo, I up graded to the Brickhouse and now have plenty of room. No chance of hitting the side or even the top of the blind with my bow. I can also fit two fold-out chair and hunt with my son in it for squirrels. It's got the hub concept, so it breaks down easily and fits into a backpack style sack.

182" Canadian Whitetail Set of Shed Antlers! -PICS
Straight Shooter replied to a topic in Classifieds
Re: 182\" Canadian Whitetail Set of Shed Antlers! - PM me a price you'd want for a set of rattling antlers in the 100-120" range. In good shape and good tone to them. -
Re: holding time?? I tell you what, if your holding for more than 10 seconds. Your holding way to long. I couldn't imagine trying to hold for 2 minutes and more so, 3 minutes. Maybe you guys are holding back with 80% let-off, but that is still a chore in it's self. I don't guess anyone of you have shot a 3-D Pop-up course. I thought I held to long to even attempt trying one of these shoots, it's shooting 5 arrows in 1 minute on the first round and the next round is cut by 10 seconds. After shooting this tournament, I actually had plenty of time left between arrows. I've been shooting for close to 20 years and have all my archery muscle's in tune. I can accurately say I only hold for about 5-7 seconds and have never had to hold over a minute while hunting. If I had to, I let down and relax my arm so I can make a clean accurate shot. Not trying to shoot with a rubber arm. I'm not doubting anyone holding this long, but I would have to see it happen, and make an accurate shot as well, after holding beyond a minute.

Re: Vaportrail or Winner\'s Choice I've heard a lot of good reviews on Archery Talk about the vaportrail. It's not as pricey as winners choice either. I think I'll go with vaportrail when I change my strings this year.

Re: One big Cat Holy Cat! That thing is a biggun! I'm ashamed of mine only being 21 lbs. now. It looks like a kitten on the wall compared to that brute! Congrats!

Illegal to hunt w/ crossbows in Calif ?
Straight Shooter replied to Ravin R10 man's topic in Bowhunting
Re: Illegal to hunt w/ crossbows in Calif ? That is what most anti xbow users are gong for, is to have used only during a general firearm season and not during the archery only season. It's kind of a toss up on the use with each individual. Just my 2 cents, if it's legal to hunt with them, then go ahead. If your handicapped and need a crossbow. Lots of Pros and Cons to this subject. Personally I don't hunt with one, and will always hunt with a compound, God willing. -
Late season NC buck on trail cam (first-time use)
Straight Shooter replied to NCHUNTR's topic in Bowhunting
Re: Late season NC buck on trail cam (first-time use) Great buck for NC! What part of NC are you in? I'm on the western end of it. Welcome to the forums! -
Re: String Travel Hey Tom, it's actually called Myrtle Beach and it's on the coast of South Carolina. LOL I've seen this picture about 4 weeks ago and left it alone, because of all the contorversy. I know all bows do this, but my question is, is this caused from the stationary roller guide. It's just another reason for me not to go with a parrell limb or short ATA bow. JMO It seems to be to much force on the string.

Re: late season does Several places here in the south, the rut hits at odd times and Does have fawns growing in them. I hunted Georgia a few years back and in November on the first Doe day weekend in November. At a meat processor's, he said he had five Doe's come in with soft-balled sized fawns in them. It's all a part of the attrition of hunting, I figure better a hunter get the Doe and control the population than a car, a coyote, or other predator. It'll not change my views on taking some Doe's out of the herd. JMO

Re: what size arrow??? The 2117's are stiff enough, if not to stiff. Personally I'd drop down to a 2213 or a 2312. If your about 5 inches beyond the riser or rest, your shooting a full length arrow. When the shaft is cut, it'll stiffen up, the shorter the arrow is cut. This is why you'll want to go with a thinner walled shaft. If you want graphite shafts, try a Goldtip.

The central part of NC to the coast is some great hunting. Lots of deer and either sex everyday of the the season, from bow through the end of gun.
-
Re: confused??? bigbucks, if your shooting 60# or less. You over spined with a 2117 shaft. The 2315's would be better, because they'll allow more flex on the shot. Go to Jacksons Archery and it'll give you most of what you need on arrows and draw weight. By all means, get your arrows cut to the same length.

Re: Guess my weight?? I'm with DG on this one. It's a young buck and won't crack 100". It might go 130 field dressed. It's a great buck and has got very good potiential.
