  1. Re: Bowhunting Advice As long as your not shootin at everything coming and going, it will not even bother the deer. Over hunting and to much scent in the area will decrease your deer sightings. They usually turn nocturnal when the hunting pressure is on. So, just watch the amount you hunt one area and don't go out with guns a blazing! LOL Good luck to you and your father.
  2. Re: Decoy positioning help needed! A Doe decoy you want ot face them away from you, a buck will approach a Doe from behind. The buck decoy will be placed facing you somewhat, another buck coming in will approach a buck from head on. By all means place them witht he wind in your advantage. Goodluck to you!
  3. Re: what broadheads do you use 75 grain Muzzy's
  4. Re: Team 20 I like #1 for our sig. I'm going nuts not getting bakc intot he woods yet. I've got two more weeks from tomorrow before I go to Ohio. I'm ready to sling a broadhead at something with lots of bone on it's head! LOL I hope everyone is doing great and staying safe!
  5. Re: Poached Deer Pic, Trespassing is trespassing and is illegal by means of the law and if an animals is taken upon tespassing then it is an illegally taken animal, even if the season is in on that animal. I've seen guys go to jail because they couldn't resist a huge buck on someone else's property and shot that deer, later getting caught by DNR and having weapons, vehicle, animal and everything else that was invovled in the unlawful taking of that animal, taken away from them. My other thing is what is the hole in the neck? I thought this buck was shot in the gut and out the restum? It sure does look like a neck shot to me, it's in all three photo's. can you explain that please? I think alot of the negativaty your getting on this topic is due to the fact that someone broke the law and your not taking an further action over it. You've got this kid by the boys and just basically letting him of with a slap on the wrist. I tell you what, if it was me I'd make him rue the day he shot a deer illegally and he'd think twice about doing it again at least on my property. Who's to say he won't try this on someone else's property since you let him off so easily? The next property owner might not be so leniant. I'm off my soap box now. LOL These laws are very strict in NC and Ohio. I don't know if I'd post to much on Penn. if they aren't going to punish for trespassing. This might open the gates for poachers in that state.
  6. Re: Ohio rut thoughts I'll be in Ohio on the 4th thru the 10th so I should be right smack in the middle of it all!
  7. Re: Joining Team Realtree? I'm really liking all these ideas and am game for the Team Realtree Membership!
  8. Re: 20 - Andrea\'s Boys Congrats Bushman that's an awesome buck buddy! I did the same thing with a buck I shot this season. Now I have to shoot another one to get some points out of it. Oh well rules are rules. I hunted last week and didn't get no antlers but got another slick head. I had some small six and eight point around but nothing big enough to shoot. I'm hoping to score big in Ohio on the week of the 4th. I've got cub scout camp outs the next two weekends and taking my son muzzleloading in the morning. Maybe he can kill a buck for us, I'm not shooting, he's got control of the trigger tomorrow. Good luck everyone and be safe.
  9. Re: Andrea\'s Boys Made a post in the wrong topic. sorry guys! LOL
  10. Re: Muzzy Shooters There are two things I do to my broadheads before they are screwed into the inserts. It been from trial and error and alot of bad words to be able to post here. I've shot Muzzy's for the last 15 years, so I consider myself a Muzzy fan. I did however kill a deer with another broadhead opening week just to field test it. But, back to the topic at hand. Working in a metal parts I know there is going to slivers of metal some where, so I inspect every ferral I take from the package and have one of those tiny silver screw drivers to help remove them. Yes, there is some to remove on just about every ferral out of the package. It is at the bottom of each slot the blades slide down and will usually just break off with a light touch of the screw driver. I have removed a sliver as long 1/2" out of the ferral before. You ask why do I do this, even though it isn't much, but it adds weight to the arrow, and will not allow the blades to set correctly in the ferral. The torcar tip wrench, throw that away! If the blades are just slightly longer than the ferral and the tip is not seated all the way. What do we do? Take the wrench and tighten the heck out of them. This entails putting bends or flexing the blades, which means you've just caused your blades to become not straight any more, which means you'll be fighting with arrow flight. I used to number all of my arrows, when I used the wrench, for the arrows that flew the worst to the best #1 being the best and for the life of me couldn't figure that out for the longest time. I was getting lock and loaded for a season a few years back noticed this one of my broadheds, I had two blades flexed one way and the other going the oposite direction. Of course it was one of the higher numbers like 9 or 10 on the fletching. I now just finger tighten the tip on the head and have no problem what so ever with them. I haven't number my arrows ever again. I can now go and just grab any six arrow to fill my quiver out of my arrow hard case and go with all the confidence in the world with any of them into the woods. I know alot of people don't take to detail like that, but I want to trust my equiptment and owe it to the animal for an accurate shot. I don't do anything to the blades or the tip, if I don't kill with them, they stay on the arrow. If they get rain on, I pull them apart and dry them off so there is no oxidation on the ferral. Stainless steel doesn't oxidize aluminum does.
  11. Re: ***Here is a touchy subject...lets talk about I totally agree with all that is said in this post and will back it to no end for the true archers. I'd like to add a little to this from two well placed shots on two Doe's this season so far. I had shot one Doe on the third day of the season, a perfect 17 yard double lunger, watch her do the face slide shot. Then as I watch go 70 yards and out of sight, I began to question my shot. I shoot all white flethcings and knock so I can see the arrow in flight and I knew I had hit this girl perfect. At dark I get down and start looking tthe last place I saw her. I found a lot of blodd and just knew she'd be very close. Well after dark and an hour later, me and my hunting partner found her. This girl was blowing blood three feet off the trail she was on and leaving a very good blood trail a blind man could follow for right at 300 yards through a thicket we had to get on our hands and knees to follow through. Danny told me I must have hit one lung the reason she went so far and I knew I had hit both by the entry and exit holes. Upon skinning her out I removed the lungs for verification and showed him, two perfect holes through the center of both lungs. I did another Doe that Saturday and she went around 250 yards, same scenario and blood trail. I was totally blown away at the distance these deer went. Danny made a great commment that made me feel very good on the end of our hunt. He said those two deer would have never been recovered by the normal hunter, the thickets and distance those two deer went would have detered them from finding her, that he's been looking for a bowhunter to hunt with that is as dedicated and loves bowhunting as much as him and thinks he's finally found someone. Bottom line folks is if you've got sign be it blood, scuffed up leave, hair, or stomache contents, don't give up! We owe to our future and upmost the animals. By the way, I did read an article on lung shot deer in Bowhunting world just the other day. Very interesting about a lung shot deer forward and a lung shot deer towards the back of the lungs. It shed some light on my situation of those two shots.
  12. Re: Team 20 Yes, and I'm heading out again in the morning for a three day hunt. I got five opening week and messed up for some more points by not getting a photo of me and the buck together. I got one my Doe's posted today so that gets us 5 points. I'm hoping for a good weekend there's a great cold front coming in and this should have them up and moving great. I've also got a one week hunt in Ohio coming up in four weeks.
  13. Re: 06-07 RT Forum Deer Contest - ENTRY Straight Shooter Doe Team 20 Andrea's Boys Here's my Doe I got opening week, I'll have to take another buck. I didn't get a picture with him and I together.
  14. Re: Team 20 Hey outdoorgirl, I have no problem being called a womans boy! LOL Now on the contest, my thre pont will not count because I don't have a picture of me with it. The Doe on the other hand does. I'll be going back out next week hunting and hopefully score on another buck. Sorry for the blunder!
  15. Re: Team 20 Sounds like a great name to me! Let's do it fella's.
  16. Re: Team 20 PDR best of luck to you and a speedy recovery! Hello my fellow and fellow-et teammates. Looks like we've got some great people on this team. I've all ready got us on the board, I took five deer opening week of the season here in NC. I'll get the pictures posted as soon as I can, the buck is a small three point but it's astep in the right direction. Good luck to all of you and be safe out there.
  17. Re: What are they eating? The acorns are all ready dropping here in the southeast. Find a tree dropping and wait for them to come.
  18. Re: Time to post teams? [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I can't wait, I had an awesome opening week last week. I took five deer with my bow, one small three point and some big does. It points on the board for me and my future team! Good luck Folks! [/ QUOTE ] WOW!! Now you can only shoot one more here in NC. [/ QUOTE ] Sorry to disappoint you, but the Doe's were taken under over population tags and the buck is registered on my liscense. We've got 60 Doe tags to fill this year so I'm hoping for another stellar hunt in a week and a half from now. LOL
  19. Re: Straight-fletched Blazers? Oh yes, you'll be very pleased with them. My buddy I hunt with as the exact same set-up on arrows and they send a 100 grain Muzzy through the air great. I just re-fletched my Goldtips last night with them.

  21. Re: opening day success!! Congrats on the buck! I had a great opening week last week and took five deer. One small three in velvet, three Doe's and a rather large button head I shot for a doe.
  22. Re: First deer ever *pics* Congratulations to you! Very nice Doe!

  24. Re: Alpha Burly? (Rubber boots in general?) You can't go wrong with the Lacrosse boots, I've got three pairs of of them in the Aplha Burly Sport one pair in the uninsulated, one in 1,00 gram and the other in 1,500 gram. I'll not wear anything else to hunt with. These boots are very comfortable and scent free. I'll be getting another pair of the uninsulated just for the reason of, I wear these more since the season is warmer longer and I don't want to wear them out.
  25. Re: Giving ROSS a try... E-mail the administrator of RT forums and it'll get done. About the ROSS bow, is it a 337 or 334? My neighbor just got one about three weeks ago and it's one cool machine. I've shot it several times and if I didn't all ready have three bows. I'd own two of those. His is the 334, very smooth, very forgiviing, and very quiet, the customers service is outstanding as well. This is one bow that's going to make a big impact on the Mathews/Bowtec sells, just give it another year or two and see.
