How often do you shoot with your broadheads?
Straight Shooter replied to craig mack's topic in Bowhunting
Re: How often do you shoot with your broadheads? I've got two bows, so I have my hunting set-up only on broadheads (MUzzy 75's) and I pretty much shoot it off and on all year. I take it groundhog hunting during the off season and practice shooting them as well in my targets. I've got an old Mackenzie Elk hindquaters that is an awesome broadhead target and has taken hundreds of hits so far. -
Re: Bloody Broadhead Do that with a Muzzy 75 grain and I'll put it as a sig on my posts. Great job!

Re: Making a list Mathews definition in the dictionary= Bandwagon! LMBO j/k CSS bow's for me, that one wagon train I'll never be on. Everytime my brother mentions his Mathews, I tell him bless you because it sounds similar to sneezing. LOL I won't mention what he says CSS stands for.

when should you replace a mech. release?
Straight Shooter replied to buckshot_09's topic in Bowhunting
Re: when should you replace a mech. release? It's got alot to do with the quality of release you buy. i've got two Scott releases and have had no problems out of them. One I've had for 8 years and the other for 4 years. One good clue that it's time to replace your is when drawing back and it let's go. Bam, you've got a fat lip or black eye. Some people will say they do this with a new release, but that's because they've hit the trigger on the draw back. The limb bolts rusting, just wipe them down with some sort of rust inhibator and they shoudl be fine. -
Re: distance to target from tree stand? Speed baby! It takes the arc out of archery(I don't shoot a Bow-tec) and gets the arrow there flatter. Slower bows have more arch there for you aim lower from an elevated platform. Faster shooting bows will be able to aim dead on and not have to worry about aiming lower.

Re: slick trick broadheads Remeber this. Hit'em High-Watch-em Die! Hit-em Low Watch-em Go! They aren't a deer so aim higher for the vitals.

Re: MUST SEE!!!! BROADHEAD SHOWDOWN You know durability is great and is a selling point of broadheads. But, I go for ease of use, tuning, and how well a broadhead flies. It doesn't do me a bit of good if that thing will shoot through five barrels or 2" of steel, if it doesn't fly good. I've shot several different makes of bows, arrows, and broadheads. For the 65-70# draw wieght and 30" draw length range, I've stuck with one combination and it's performed great for me over the years.

Re: What is the best 75 gr. broadhead? A 75 grain Muzzy on a 27 3/4" shaft with 4" vnes is deadly. I guess I'm a shoe in for fixed blade, though.

Re: Fixed Position versus Adjustable Bowsites Fixed pins all the way, they are set and you've got nothing to worry about except drawing back and making the shot. You don't need any other distractions taking away from the shot. Now as for your wife, you'll probably have to "Splaining" to do with her. LOL

Re: Sighting In for heights This has been a big discussion before on sighting in for elevated shots. In my opinion, if your bow is shooting 260 or better, your going to pretty much hit where your aiming. A slower bow will have more of an arch to it, hence, you'll be hitting a little higher out of an elevated stand. The arrow is still rising, a faster bow is shooting flatter so it's not a critical of aiming lower on an animal. If I were you, I'd just concentrate on trying to remember to aim lower, just like allowing for a deer to drop at the sound of a shot. Even on pendilum sights they are recommmended for certain speeds. My hunting bow is shooting 282 fps and it hits dead on out of a stand. Two things you can do, find a place to sight your bow in out of a stand or like I said earlier, conentrate on holding lower.

Re: This makes us all look bad!!! I agree with VTbowhunter on this. This Doe could have been shot during legal hunting times. It is hard to tell if it's a bolt or not. Either way though, it's bad news for us and fuel for the opposition. It could also be an honest cass of buck/doe fever and someone just made a bad shot.

Re: Crossbows...good or not? Adjam5, that is a very good comparison from the NYB and I totally agree with it. I'm not against the use of one where it's legal to use and legal to obtain under a handicap regulation permit. I also think it does give others oppertunities to hunt. But once again it's not a bow, this is becoming a very heated discussion especially with the P&Y board, because it's trying to be pushed (by manufacturer's) to allow harvested animals by a crossbow for entry into the books. It's a very heated debate and it'll probably be a long one as well. I for one am staying on the compound side, I love my vertical bows and God willing, will keep shooting them.

Re: Finally.... They look great and should stablize very quickly. I'm just curious to the reflective part. How will the sun affect the visibility of them for others or deer to seeing them? Are they reflective for the purpose of finding them after the shot? After a pass through, will they not be covered in blood? I'm just curious and once again they look great.

Re: .019 vs .029 Pins hoyt03, try looking into JacksonsArchery.com or ArcheryExperts.com, they both carry alot of supplies for many different manufacturer's. I shoot .019 for my 3-D set-up and tried them for a couple of season on my hunting rig. I still have the .019's on my 3-D, but switched to the .029's for hunting. I shoot a Copper John sight, I just din't like how slow or low the visibility of the pins where at low light. A .010 difference can mean the difference between seeing them or not in an ealery morning or late evening shot oppertunity. JMO and I don't wear any corrective lens and don't need them either.

Re: michigan/north carolina rut?? I varies in NC because of the weather differences from the east to west. Our rut in westeren NC doesn't hit until the 7th or so of December and that is the lst week of our season. In the central to eastern part is much earlier. I've hunted the central part for years and it's came in around the later part of Oct. to the first of Nov. . Michigan, I've got no idea.

Re: Occupation and Deer Hunting I am a automotive factory worker having been there coming up on 19 years in May. I get four weeks vacation a year and soon to be 5 weeks after 20 years at the factory. I use a week to go vacation with the wife and kids in the summer and this leaves me with three weeks. I also get off work at 3:00 p.m. and have the evenings to hunt as well.
