Re: How to tell diff. between a young and adult doe Man, I hate to agree with buckee on this! LOL J/K But buckee is right. Older or mature does have a long snout. Younger or yearling does will have a short snout, kind of looks like they've been hit right in the end of the nose and it's been pushed back in. I judge them by the distance from the eye to the nose. If one doe comes out, it's hard to judge her by herself by looking at the body. A mature doe will measure about 8-10 inches from the eye to the nose. That's the best way I can judge older does from younger ones.

Re: holier than thou forum members Yes, canine. It's stopped being a debate and turning into a little bitty pebble rolling down hill and turning into a giant boulder. One thing you'll realize on here, is people are quick to judge and not think before they react. I'm guilty of it as well. You've got to realize some of these guys are still newbie's at bow hunting and taken none to only a couple of deer with a bow. Which I'm taking nothing away from them, but the lack of experience. Until you've been in that situation yourself, you can't say what you'd do or the outcome would be. Adrenaline does funny thngs to people! LOL Take alot of this with a grain of salt, I made a bad shot placement on a doe and never found her, opening day this year. I hit her right where I wanted, but she was quartered to hard away. I got one lung and no deer. What really stink's is I know she's dead somewhere, at least your's is alive. But, the number one thing is we've both learned a lesson from it. Give alot of these guys a few more years bowhunting and I'm sure we'll be reading about some poor/bad shot placement on a deer they have taken. Good example, my neighbor had taken his first deer with a bow year before last and was bragging he was batting a 1,000 with a bow. Now, he is 1 for three or four with a bow. Bowhunting is not an exact science and it's going to happen to most bowhunters at one time or another. JMO-people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw bricks.

Re: \"Texas Heart shot????????\" We've had this topic talked about before and it's a very touchy one. It's avery unethical shot and not a favorite by most hunters. Let's keep this to a dull roar, he only wanted to know what this shot was, not should he take it or not.

I STUCK AN ABSOLUTE HOG TONIGHT!! WIFE SHOT ONE TO
Straight Shooter replied to fisherguy's topic in Bowhunting
Re: I STUCK AN ABSOLUTE HOG TONIGHT!! WIFE SHOT ONE TO I've got that video of Stan Potts taking that shot and his exact words are, "I had to take that shot, that deer is huge". I couldn't believe he took that shot. But, he found that buck. I've taken more head on/quartering towards me shots than a quartering away shot and had great success with them. JMO, I'd rather have an arrow going into vitals sooner than later in the kenetic energy loss. But this is a different subject. Let's just let things calm down on this and maybe he'll come back and give us an update on the either of the bucks. Remeber, it only take one bad shot of a lifetime, to give a lifetime of lessons learned. -
Re: Martinsville Picks I'm not totally Southern, but noone knows that!
-
Re: Martinsville Picks Chruds a yankee and Jrs. a southern boy. Where's the connection to me sucking up to Chrud? LOL I don't have to make a pick, I pull for one driver and he wins or looses. Now, go hunt all those deer tracks I've be having those kids put down during the week.

I STUCK AN ABSOLUTE HOG TONIGHT!! WIFE SHOT ONE TO
Straight Shooter replied to fisherguy's topic in Bowhunting
Re: I STUCK AN ABSOLUTE HOG TONIGHT!! WIFE SHOT ONE TO I agree Doc, I have never taken a shot on a deer quatering away that hard. I never will again, it is a very low percentage shot for a quick kill. It'll take the animal down, but it does no good if you can't find that animal in time to save the meat. I just glad I learned this experience on a doe, not that it's any less of an animal. It's just not a trophy buck. -
Re: Do you think fox\'s are..... I felt some ovaries growing in the dark that morning, 7bru! LMBO
-
Re: Martinsville Picks 7bru, what race are you dreaming of? Jr. was driving a crushed Budweiser can, not a car. His tab even popped off! LOL He really in command now.
-
Re: Do you think fox\'s are..... They are a pain in the butt if you ask me. The area I'm hunting in, is covered up with grey foxes. I had one opening day try to run me off as I was climbing the tree. If you've never heard one scream, it'll give a new meaning to hair raising experience! LOL Deer are a little cautious around fresh fox sign, but not to the extent of leaving the area.

Ohio hunters when you figure full blown rut?
Straight Shooter replied to axman's topic in Bowhunting
Re: Ohio hunters when you figure full blown rut? I'll let you know after I get back from up there. I'll be hunting from Nov 7th to the 12th. It's generally hit around there. Last season there was no acorns or any other good mast crops, the deer were more predictable. -
I STUCK AN ABSOLUTE HOG TONIGHT!! WIFE SHOT ONE TO
Straight Shooter replied to fisherguy's topic in Bowhunting
Re: I STUCK AN ABSOLUTE HOG TONIGHT!! WIFE SHOT ONE TO Congrats on both of you connecting and I hope you find your bucks. It's going to be very iffy for the one you shot. I shot a big doe opeing day here and it sounds like the shot I took to a "T". I hit at the last rib, just off of the spine and drove it forward. I found good blood for 70 yards and then she quit bleeding. I never found that deer, I know I hit one lung. I was finding pink frothy blood. A deer will run a long ways on one lung and it's hard to track without and exit hole and the enrty hole being so high. Good luck on bothof the deer. -
Re: Bigfoot. I hunted some land in Georgia a couple of years ago. It had an old cemetery on it, from the late 1700's and early 1800's tombstone's. Man I hated to walk past that in the dark. Other than things of that nature, I'm okay with it. Or a fox that sounds like the baby screaming from the movie "It's Alive". Some of the older members will know what movie I'm talking about. That was the only time I've heard that sound, except for opening day this year. I was glad to be up a tree and hoped that thing making that noise couldn't climb a tree. Found out after daylight it was a female fox, and she was doing the same noise towards a big bobcat. I was just glad it wasn't that evil, hairless, hopping little baby! LMBOROF

Re: a few of my badgers! Great picture, SS! Badgers and wolverines have always got my attention. I'd love to have one of each mounted. Good job on the kills.

Re: Buckee I don't know if my 17" monitor can hold Buckee's head in it or not! LMBO J/K Buckee! That was a great article and paintings. I was wondering also, do you get a discount on Chippawa boots up there?LOL I love those boots, I've had a pair of them for over 15 years now and they are still going strong.

Re: Deer Cameras Yeah Gus! Give us the skiny or fatty on the building of these! LOL Can a digital camera be used for this also?

Re: A Realtree.com Proposition Josh, you talk'in to me? This might turn into another war between the north and the south! LOL I'm not asleep, I'm just imagining hearing your arrow clang off that tree behind the target you just missed! LMBROF

Re: A Realtree.com Proposition Well since it's going to be in the mid west some where. I could possibly pick Racksie up and maybe a couple of others. This get together sounds awesome. It's just got to be kept in the back of everyone's mind that summer time is vacation time for the families and mine is in the 2nd week of June. But, I want to get into this competition. Someone needs to put Vtbowhunter in his place! "2nd" LMBOROF

Re: Your Hunting ATV I've got a 1999 Polaris Trailblazer 2X4. It's been a great 4-wheeler, the only thing I wish it had was a low gear. Other than that, I love it! I've got a picture of it, but I've all ready posted it with my buck this year several times. LOL It's yellow and white and hauls booty, slings mud, and sounds like a chainsaw coming through the woods! LMBOROF Oh yeah it's a 2 stroke so it fogs for mosquitos as well!

Re: Coke or Pepsi? Mountain Dew for me. The only time I drink Coke is with Crown Royal in it. LOL My wife loves Pepsi! If that counts.
