    TURKEY

Re: TURKEY WTG!!!! I'm taking my Nephew out on NY's youth hunt later this month, on the 23rd & 24th of April!! I can't wait, he blew a chance on a gobbler last spring, and ended up taking a jake the next morning. But this year, it's a mature bird for sure!!!
  4. Re: Turkey Vests ? Mossy Oak's own turkey vest, would be in Mossy Oak camo!!!
  5. Re: Winchester 1300 Patterning I now shoot a Rhino Choke sized .660 and Nitro H378 3" hevishot loads of #4-#5-#7 sized shot. This combo, without a doubt, was the best I seen shot out of my 1300 since 1992!!!! Spend the bucks and try this combo out, I'm sure you'll be impressed as I was!!
  6. Re: Purdy\'s Custom Turkey Calls Hey SH91, I just sent in an order to Bill last week!! A good friend of mine got a Zebrawood Slate and Glass call from him a few weeks ago, along with a Bloodwood striker!! I was super impressed at the sound of his Slate call!!! I should have mine hopefully sometime this week, along with another Bloodwood striker and two Bocote strikers as well!!! This is the best sounding Slate call I ever heard!! Make sure to tell Bill, Paul said hello!!!
  7. Re: Turkey Vests I don't think you can beat Mossy Oak's Elite II 20-pocket turkey vest for the money!!
  8. Re: What do you prefer I hate hunting in the rain for anything. I'll wait till either it stops, or hunt another day. I want to enjoy my hunt, so not being miserable in a rain is what I'm after.
  9. Re: BUG SPRAY? I agree, the Therma-Cell unit is the only way to go!!
  10. Re: Went out scouting yesterday-- great finds and sign I'm going to be out wednesday morning, checking out some spots of mine as well. The snow is almost gone now, and it should be easy walking!!!
  11. Re: Turkey nests...... I have only seen two actual nests over the last 15 years. The most recent was two springs ago in PA, and I happened to catch the hen actually leaving the nest as I walked by, I caught the movement out of my left eye. I walked up to the nest to check it out and there was one egg that looked like it rolled about 2' away from the nest? I didn't touch anything, and left it as is, and walked away. Here is a pic of a actual turkey nest that a friend sent me last year from Ohio.
  12. Re: Broke in the new............ If I ever go to a Semi-Auto, that Winchester X2 will be the one for me as well!!
  13. Re: Getting A Friend Back Into Turkey Hunting!!!!!! That's what happened to me. A buddy got me back into this sport after a 7 year absence due to me getting stalked by two other turkey hunters one fall morning many years ago. That experience was so un-nerving, that I quit right then and there. I have to thank my buddy for getting me back into it. Till this day, I'm very leary of fall hunting!!!
  14. Re: judging gobblers Like kooter, I always check for the "full Fan" first, then I look at his beard. Spurs are most always a suprise after you walk up onto the bird after he's down. If a gobbler has a full fan, and a dandy beard, his spurs most likely won't disappoint you!!
  15. Re: Bitter Sweet Success in Florida Congrats on your Osceola!!!! That's one trip I intend to make one of these years myself!!!
  16. Re: hevi shot vs lead Sorry to differ rossburg, but a #7 hevishot pellet hits almost as hard as a #5 lead pellet, and how many more #7 pellets can you put into a shell VS #5's? Tell me where the "Wash" comes from? By the way, I don't claim to be a "know-it-all" either, but I have been patterning my turkey gun with many different loads and chokes over the years, so I guess my first hand results entitle me to give an honest opinion or two of what works. I'm not knocking you here, but in my opinion, Hevishot will eventually make lead & Steel shot obsolete, just because it works so much better.
  17. Re: hevi shot vs lead I agree. They sure are comming out with a bunch of new turkey loads this year and from many different companies as well. Biggest thing is to find what shoots good in your gun. Personal favorites play heavy on this topic.

    Nitro Shells

Re: Nitro Shells I'd try them in your factory choke and see how they do. If your not impressed with the patterns, then you'll know which choke tube to get!!
  19. Re: How much will GAS PRICES effect turkey by the lb. I got some HP goodies for my truck, so I burn 93 octane at almost $2.30+ per gallon. My truck usually takes 17 gallons to fill up when on "E", so you talking around $40.00. So that's $6.00 more per tankful compared to regular unleaded, but boy my truck sure loves to run on that High test gas!!
  20. Re: Shotgun Scope Mounts If your gun's receiver is drilled and tapped, by all means go with a scope base and rings instead of with a saddle mount!! Saddle mounts mainly are used when a gun hasn't been drilled and tapped.
  21. Re: hevi shot vs lead I'd say that Hevishot hits a "LOT" harder than a comparable sized lead pellet!! Better patterns as well. I made the switch.
  22. Re: Kelly Cooper Turkey Calls Wasn't he the same guy who came out with that "Tru-Leaf" camo line of clothes back in the early eighty's?
  23. Re: Chalk up a Big Gobbler for Team Timber Shakers. WTG!! Our season doesn't start until May 1st!!
  24. They sell decoys bags in the Midwest catalog on page 11. Here's a pic of what they look like. I've been using these for a few years now, sure beats trying to get a decoy out of your vest in a hurry!!
