  1. Re: First Buck Ever With My ML (pics) buck2die, You most certainly are welcome to your opinion........but, it's very bad form to make your entrance to this forum by putting others down. I'm personally proud of every deer I take be it a fawn or a mature buck. A trophy is in the eye of the beholder. The circumstance involved in the taking of a deer is as important if not more important than the size of the bone on it's head. So, in this case, as it's the mans first buck with a ML, it's a NICE deer any way you look at it. hangunnr

  3. Found this while rambling around the woods here. Had to have been a button buck due to the very small size of the skull. Thought it was pretty cool. hangunnr
  4. Re: Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter base pin problem If you are gonna go to the trouble of half way tearing the gun down you may as well do a complete job and upgrade the springs also. The set screw will make contact with the barrel. I would suggest installing the new base pin and lightly bottoming the screw just enough to mark the barrel. Then remove the pin and drill a very shallow dimple in the barrel just slightly larger in diameter than the screw. This will allow the screw to bottom without mushrooming metal which could impair base pin removal. You'll also have to remove the ejector rod and housing to get the base pin out. This will be the location of the dimple.... I guess I've been lucky with my Blackhawk. My gun locks up real tight and hasn't as of yet let thrown the pin. hangunnr
  5. Re: Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter base pin problem Ah yes, the wandering base pin problem........... Replacing the pin is really your best option for a permanant fix. Belt Mtn. Enterprises, Inc. makes a very nice replacement pin that locks in place via a set screw. The price is IMO very reasonable. hangunnr
  6. Went down to the wire this year for me. Was able to get out of work early friday afternoon and of course I headed straight for the woods....... Got to the stand about 2 pm. There was a NE wind which was OK for the stand location I chose. About an hour later I saw a dink buck cruising the woods well off to my left. Nice body size but not much horn on his head. As I watched that buck fade off into the woods I just happened to turn in time to catch the shadow of the legs of this deer coming through the thicket to my right. I was able to stand and pivot to a proper shooting position without being detected. As the deer approached a shooting lane I grunted him to a stop.........right behind some brush. He didn't see me or become startled so he just resumed walking. I grunted again, when he came to a stop I settled the 20 yard pin on his heart and touched the release. It went into slow motion at this point. I watched the arrow disappear right into the heart pocket. The deer didn't react like he'd been hit. I know I saw the arrow plow through him but he just took a couple bounds then stopped....... I watched him through my binoc's for what seemed like several seconds. I figured what the heck if he's gonna stand there I'm gonna hit him again. I dug my range finder out of my pack and ranged him to exactly 40yds. I centered my 40yd pin on his tail and touched off the second shot. This one got his attention......He made about a 25yd half circle and piled up. When I went to retrieve him my second arrow had followed the spine right along his tail. When I field dressed him I found that the first arrow had punched a beautiful hole right through the middle of his heart........... . That's the first time I've had a heart shot deer react this way. Had I not known that my first arrow was on mark I wouldn't have taken the second shot........ The doe in this pic was taken saturday morning with my slug gun. What a nice way to spend a weekend.........Now for the skinning and butchering...........that's a different story. hangunnr

Not much of a drag though...............Don dosen't mess around dragging them. He just goes to get the Jeep. Though I believe he could've just picked it up and carried it...............He was kinda pumped..... Mr & Mrs Strut are great hosts. Sure enjoyed my visit with them. Hope to be able to do it again. 9. Was just sitting here looking at my Encore ML pistol wondering why someone or T/C hasn't come up with a quick release for the forend. I wouldn't think it would be much of a stretch for T/C to use a system like is typically used on O/U shotguns. I would also think having a no tools required multi caliber switch barrel system would be a good selling point. Any thoughts............ hangunnr
  10. Re: GLock 23 converted to a 19? Why would one want to make this conversion? You would have to at very least change the barrel, slide and magazines. I'm not sure if any other internal parts would also require changing. If you desire to push a .355 dia. bullet out of your 23 then simply drop in a .357 Sig barrel. You then can still use your current slide and mags. hangunnr
  11. Re: Whats the difference...??? [ QUOTE ] I did some research and found that the #10 refers to the cap being 10mm wide. Same for the #11 caps, they are 11mm. [/ QUOTE ] Not so, your research source is very off base. If a #10 cap is 10mm wide it would measure .40" across. I don't think so...... #10 caps were designed for use in percussion revolvers. They are a smaller size and not suited for use with a gun designed for #11's. hangunnr
  12. Re: PA round up.......Pics Sure was nice to get to meet IB. Had a great time chewing the skinny with these guys and of course finally getting to meet AJ. I couldn't believe there was any mod here any shorter than snapper. BTW, What's with the deer in the headlights look there Gregg? hangunnr
  13. Re: PA \"Mini-Round-UP\"????? Sounds good, looking forward to tipping one (or 10) with you guys. hangunnr
  14. Re: Anyone shoot this Ammo Never shot any of their handgun ammo. I have shot several flats of their shotgun ammo without any complaints. hangunnr
  15. Re: Maximum effective range? WNY, That's the exact load I recommended to VT in some earlier posts. I feel it's the best factory ammo available for deer hunting with a .357mag. I'm really fond of the Nosler Partition handgun series of bullets. They can be driven very hard and still perform well when encountering bone. They'll do the job if the shooter can place the shot. hangunnr
  16. Re: Maximum effective range? You pretty well answered your own question. With the ammo I referred you too earlier, if the shooter is up to snuff the load will perform out to about 100yds. Your self imposed limit of 50 yds will be more than fine. Hope you get a chance to score with your Ruger. hangunnr
  17. The kind that shoots them thar booolits. what's ur gun hangunnr

  23. Re: ML Doe Here's your purty gurl G-Daddy. I uploaded your pic to my machine then renamed it removing the under scores between the words. This appears to be part of the problem. For whatever reason the url assigned to your pic included "jpeg" instead of the standard jpg or JPG. hangunnr
