Re: 30-30 non micro groove barrel Unless I'm mistaken the only company that uses "micro groove" barrels is Marlin. Winchesters should have standard rifled barrels. You can also get Contender / Encore barrels in 30-30 if you feel inclined to have a single shot. hangunnr

Re: new england firearms [ QUOTE ] Have a feeling that is one reason why those firing pin springs often fail early on Encores (aside from there being flimsy little things). [/ QUOTE ] Perhaps, but I'd lean more towards the gun getting dry fired as to the leading cause of firing pin spring failure in the Encores. That little conical spring is bound to hang up if the firing pin is allowed to travel beyond it's normal range. hangunnr

Re: Another BPI Barrel (CVA) Comes Unglued "......... The breech plug stripped out from the threads........ ........no bulge in the barrel............." Hard to say EXACTLY what took place. Dosen't look like a barrel failure. Sounds like the guy was very lucky if you consider what could have happened. ........ "and I know it wasnt double charged"......... Seems that everytime we see some failure (be it breech loader or ml) posted on the net that the one point the author is very clear on is that there wasn't any operator error involved. Just once I'd like to see someone say that they just might have fudged up. There are no conclusions to be drawn from this.

'bout the only negative that I've been privy to is that the Taurus revolvers won't last quite as long as the S&W guns. I had one of the first 8 shot revolvers that Taurus put out several years ago that suffered from timing issues after about 2000 rounds. Taurus corrected the problem without any question. hangunnr

Re: I got my new Beretta !! Mike, You really need to send that gun down to me for a field test. I promise I'll only run a couple (thousand ) rounds through it. Hope you enjoy it. hangunnr

Re: Post your 2004 scores here. Shot our clubs last 3D of the year. My older daughter shot with me today. She shot a 240-15X out of 300-30. She was happy with her shooting.(so was I) I shot a 300-26. The highlight of her day was a perfect robinhood of one of my arrows. I stuck a pinwheel 11 on a 28yd doe target then she followed with a perfectly placed robinhood. I in jest told her that because her arrow never made it to the target that she would get a zero on that target. She couldn't have cared less, she got to blow up one of my arrows. hangunnr

Re: Post your 2004 scores here. Shot our club benefit shoot today. We raised somewhere near $4000 for Rileys Childrens Hospital. During the two day shoot we had 148 shooters on the course. Shot a 290-27X in hunter class and a 300-25X in open class. It is really showing that I haven't been practicing. hangunnr

Re: Post your 2004 scores here. Good job at Raccoon Ridge Tony!! -------------------------- I shot a 40 target course today, IBO scoring. I shot hunter class and ended up with a 377/400. It's been awhile since I'd shot pins and it really showed the further along we went. The first 20 targets went very well I was only 4 down. I lost my mind on the second half, struggling to find the 10 ring. The course wasn't any harder I just really lost focus. hangunnr

Re: Post your 2004 scores here. Shot a 393/400 yesterday with 13-11s. Course was pretty good but lighting was terrible. There were several shots under a heavy canopy of trees that were very hard to judge. We finished up in a hurry just beating the rain. hangunnr

Re: Post your 2004 scores here. Shot a 30 target course with Strut 10 while out in Penn. sunday morning. Course was pretty good with a couple very deceiving shots. All targets were Reinharts with IBO scoring rings. They only scored 10,8,5,0 but we kept track of the 12's on the score sheet anyway. I shot a 285 without the 12s, which would of been a 307 with the 12s. With this score I ended up in 3rd. When we got to target 8, Strut stepped up and shot the target then I stepped to the stake and while judging the distance I happened to glance to my right and couldn't believe what I saw. There was a doe standing about 40-45yds away just munching away on the greens. She wasn't at all concerned with our presence. (maybe she'd been watching us shoot ) We went to pull the arrows which took us to within about 30yds of her. She took a couple steps back but still wasn't very worried. We wondered if maybe she had a fawn nearby that she didn't want to leave. I absolutely love seeing critters in the woods. hangunnr

Re: Post your 2004 scores here. Shot 7 up on a 28 target course today. Shots felt good. Finally had good weather conditions. hangunnr

Re: Post your 2004 scores here. Shot a 298/300 saturday. The first two targets were at 48 and 46 yds. What an eye opener for the first targets of the day. --------------------------------- Shot terrible today. The friggin wind was cranking again. I'm at a loss as how to handle the incessant windy conditions. hangunnr

Re: Post your 2004 scores here. Shot a paultry 380/400 today. Wind was cranking AGAIN ! I've been shooting a pure BT release and I guess if the wind is gonna keep blowing I'll have to find something I can control a little better. Watching my pin blow completely off the target while executing a shot in very frustrating. hangunnr

Re: Post your 2004 scores here. Went to a new course today. This place has a large parcel of land with several ponds, ravines and alot of woods. The neatest shot of the day was a 40yd down hill across the end of one of the ponds. The distance was very deceiving. This was one of only 4 targets I had the yardage wrong on. I shot it for a high 8. I ended the day with 2 nickles, 2 eights, 12 twelves and the rest tens. This came out to ten up for the day. I'm pretty happy shooting a 310 on this course. I'm a little unhappy with the missed yardage on some of the targets but it was a good lesson in paying close attention to the targets surroundings. hangunnr

Re: Post your 2004 scores here. Shot at local hunt club today. Wind was gusting up to 30mph....... AGAIN..... We just can't seem to get a break and have nice weather to shoot. I shot 300-26X in the hunter class and another 300-26X in the open class. hangunnr

Re: Post your 2004 scores here. Shot 300-50X for our spot league tonight. 50X has been my goal for the last couple weeks. Feels good to see it. hangunnr

Re: Post your 2004 scores here. Shot 299-48X tonight at league. Had one bowgasm during the ninth end and stuck a solid 4. Finished up with 15 straight X's after dropping the point. hangunnr

Re: Post your 2004 scores here. Good shooting Don. Won hunter class today with a 300-24X. Got 3rd in IBO class with a 290-19X. Wind was ferocious, gusting upwards of 30mph. Trying to break clean shots with the BT release was a chore. hangunnr

Re: Post your 2004 scores here. Shot a new 3D course last weekend. Wind was gusting up to 30mph. I shot 389/400. Had 14-11s. Only had two really poor shots on the day, both pigs. Shot one warthog for 42 when it was actually 37 this earned me a 5. Second bad shot was on a javelina. I looked hard at this target and first impression told me 30yds. I then looked again and said no that aint right. Adjusted the sight down to 27 and let the shot go.............pig was actually 35yds!!! This mis-judgment cost me an arrow as it fell right into the metal base holding the target. I can't remember the last time I whiffed on a target. }}}------------------------------------------> (X) Shot spot league tonight. Shot a 300-47X. This was the first time I used the 2613s. They fly pretty well considering they are spined way stiff for my rig. hangunnr

Re: Post your 2004 scores here. Shot two different courses today.........I'm exhausted.. Had troubles on the first course with yardages from 35-45yds. I was seeing these targets as 3-4yds short all day. I had so many jarlicker 6 o'clock 10's it wasn't even funny. Way too many 8's in this area. Ended up with a 385/400. Second course was at the hunt club I belong to. Shot Ok with a 300-22X out of 300-30X. Ranges here didn't get much past 35yds. My daughter shot a personal best today with a 240-10X. She is getting that trigger under control and her score is reflecting it. I need to get her back into shape, she was dragging towards the end. hangunnr

Re: Post your 2004 scores here. Shot a 3D course at the bowhunter club I belong to. They score the 10 ring as an X, the 8 ring as a 10 and anything else as a 0. This club credits kill shots only. The first time through the course I shot a 290-29X. I fell out on one shot. This still was a PB for X count for me. Second time through I shot 300-24X. Weather was perfect. We had a very good turnout surpassing 50 shooters. I think there were alot of people shaking the dust off after a long winter. hangunnr
