Thanks, fellers. That's actually my second flinter deer this year. Still have 2 weeks and 1 either-sex tag in hand. Plus my daughter has 3 tags...……..if I can ever get her butt outta bed at 6:00 AM...... Here's the first one:

Rain stopped just before daylight this morning, so...…………………….. Rock...….steel...….smoke...….venison.

Was hoping to hunt in the morning...……………….but steady rain and flintlocks don't play so well together. We'll see.

"Pileated" Pronounced a couple different ways...……..most commonly "Pill-ee-ayy-ted" All I know is they are a beautiful bird and I wish someone had a good recipe for them, because I'd about like to shoot every one I saw...…. They blow holes through GOOD, standing timber better than a mortar from a tank. Especially hard on cherry and sassafras. All the other woodpeckers drill dead trees looking for bugs. Pileateds just blow holes in good timber trees for the heck of it. My dad hated them with a PASSION.

The towns where I hunt turkeys in Wyoming and Nebraska are bracing for impact. Today it's 75 degrees and there's a Red Flag Warning for prairie fires. By Thursday night they're supposed to be between 10 and 15 degrees with winds to 35 mph and up to 14 inches of snow in the higher ridges...…… 6 to 10 inches otherwise. Good grief !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This for me, too. Too many years of too many gunshots, unprotected. I bet just from ONE .300 Win Mag that I used to shoot A LOT, my ears have taken in 500-750 unprotected blasts from that one gun. My ears ring non-stop now. Today...………. I wear ear protection shooting anything but a bow or an air gun. Tractors...……….chainsaws...…….leaf blower...……..power tools...………. All of them.

Have Undercover non-folding (one piece) on both our Z--71's. They are $1000+ covers and work VERY well as long as you don't need to haul anything that's 1/4" taller than your bedside. The locking mechanism is pretty simple and seems like it's effective. I found BOTH of them used on Craigslist for $250 - $300.

Irish Setters for me. Vaprtrek snake boots for spring turkey...…………. Rutmaster rubber boots for deer. There's a shop about 10 minutes up the road that beats internet prices on Irish Setters and Red Wings. If I have any problem...……….. I go 10 minutes up the road to HIM. You can NOT do that with Danners. That's why I refuse to buy ANYTHING from them.

Was reading another guy's thread on another forum about the Mule. Seems it is a love it or hate it machine. I have NO personal experience with them. The maintenance guys at one apartment complex I deliver to have had one since I started going there 14 years ago, so...………..must be some testament to the durability.

Grilling chicken 3 different ways. Pasta salad and baked beans for sides. Momma's gonna do a cobbler of black raspberries we picked a couple weeks ago...………….

Now, WHY most of that last post is barred in gray...……………… ??? You tell me...…………….

This afternoon, me and boy took a quad ride. We were on a reconnaissance mission checking on a HUGE patch of blackberries we found a month or so ago when they were in blossom. We took 2 large lidded margarine tubs with us to snag a few black raspberries out the fencerow behind the house. Well...……………..ends up the blackberries are weeks from being anywhere near ripe. But amongst them were GOBS of ripe black raspberries !!! We filled both our tubs in under 30 minutes. Shoulda taken a scrub bucket. Tomorrow's another day........................

Breakfast with the fellers earlier this morning...………….boy's ballgame in a couple hours. Have the loader tractor down here from the farm and may accomplish some of the things I need to do with it. May not. Calling for storms here today (big freakin' surprise, there) so I may just sit on the porch swing with a cold one or more. Taking all the young uns to dinner tonight...…………….even if they ain't all young anymore...……….at a real nice, local Italian place. Looking forward to a real nice evening.
