What is the most accurate out of the box rifle?
Strut10 replied to Enrique's topic in Rifles & Accessories
From what I have seen, as of late, the Weatherby Vanguards are nearly impossible to beat……………………..for the money or at most ANY cost. -

March in Pennsylvania...………………………. sounds like spring...……...feels like winter. Got about 5 inches last night. Somewhere between 2 and 6 more coming through the weekend. Then January-like temps to follow. Just a bunch of errands tomorrow then taking (surprising) my daughter with a college basketball game in a luxury box. A ton of stuff I need to get done...………...just no cooperation from that old bag, Mother Nature.

CONGRATS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best investment you can ever make !!

No doubt, their plates are full. But I bowhunt. I turkey hunt. There is a TON of down time, whether up a tree or sitting at the base of one. Like you said about the cell phones that EVERYONE is on anymore. Ain't that hard to log in to the forums and post something every now and again. Heck !!! I've made posts from 25 feet up. If I can figure it out, ANYBODY can figure it out.

I always thought it quite odd, that, even when the RT Forums were SCREAMING popular and busy...…………..the familiar faces gave somewhere between a lackluster effort and no effort at all to add to the site. Me or Al can post all day long about killing truckloads of turkeys and we'll get the same handful of congratulatory posts from the same handful of dedicated friends as the last 10+ years. Let one of the "names" post about killing 1 bird on a hunt somewhere and the traffic would be MULTIPLE times more. And, so it SHOULD be...………..if there were just some effort at participation. But there's not.

Time is getting close for the southern boys and gals to go huntin' !!! Anyone have plans for out of state hunts this spring ?? Was hoping to get my daughter into some Nebraska Merriam's this spring. But it's looking like school obligations are gonna foil those plans. Possibly do another Wyoming/Nebraska combo with my brother again...……….or some other trip by the seat of our pants...…….or just stay home and hunt a couple weeks. Dunno yet.
-
THIS would help. IMMENSELY.
-
Planted it many times. At our place, you gotta plant a pretty good sized patch if you want ANY of it to mature before the deer have it all eaten off. We usually put in a couple acres or more. What does happen to survive the deer and make seed heads...………..the doves and turkeys go berserk over. The honeybees love it, too.

Never had this problem with HER before, either...………………. She's shot a doe and a buck with her .308 and it was quick and decisive. And with gobblers...…………………………… LORD, but she's RUTHLESS !!! I guess time will tell how the future deer hunts will go. And I did have my opportunities. I just wanted to share them all with her and it didn't work out that way. I've eaten tags before and it doesn't bother me. But, DANG it !!! I wanted some baloney !!!!!!!!
-
Carve this in STONE...………………... "Never, EVER try to reason with 14 year old, female logic" !!
-
This was RIGHT in line with why she didn't shoot the FIRST big meat mule that was in front of her. She was holding a buck tag and 3 doe tags. She had told me a few weeks ago "I'm only shooting a buck if it is 7 points or more". So, OK...…….she wants a bigger buck. Well, what I did NOT understand was that was the ONLY thing she was shooting...………...no doe !!! Aye, yi, YI...………..!!! Then I explained to her the thing about realistic expectations in late flintlock season and she agreed she'd shoot a doe next time. Well, last night with 5-10 minutes of season remaining, there's a big doe fawn 20 yards from us standing broadside. Momma was SLOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWLY bringing up the rear and was NOT gonna present a shot in the daylight. She wouldn't shoot !!!! "I don't wanna shoot a baby !!" UGH !!!!!! I'd have pulled my hair out if I had enough to get a hold of !!!! There was 40 pounds of baloney in that deer !!!! I wanted deer baloney !!!! My gun was turned the wrong way with the deer being so close...……..nothing I could do but watch.

Well, fellers...……………………. I'm throwing in my towel. Daughter got the flu at Christmas time and only got to hunt a couple hours 2 different days. Put deer in front of her both times, but she didn't shoot (oh, geez...……….don't ask...…). I spent a few days at it myself and actually COULD have filled all 4 of my tags in the first 1 1/2 days. I was just so bummed to not be hunting with my daughter, I didn't care to shoot anything. Sooooooo…………… I gotta work with my daughter on sound management/conservation -vs- emotion for next year and for myself, just hope we have a few decent survivor bucks still running the Strut10 Ranch to be targets this coming season.
-
Seems awfully early for the great white north...…………... Is that a good draw for you ??
-
Looks GREAT !!!! Love all the wood, too !!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS to the guys on TEAM 4 !!!! Tomorrow starts our flintlock season...……….. Have several days available to hunt. Gonna have my best huntin' buddy along as much as she will. I still oughta get a chance to add some baldy points to our total. Both daughter and I can shoot a buck and 3 doe. I won't shoot a buck unless it's something I'd have shot with my bow in November. Gonna tell her to shoot any buck she wants if one happens by...…………..

Merry Christmas to all my friends on the RT Forums and to your families, as well !!!!

Let's see the other RT trees !! Real or fake. Doesn't matter. Post 'em up.

Here's my Pickle girl with our 2018 Christmas tree in the field. It's a 7-ish foot Grand Fir. Here's a rather lousy phone pic of it inside and up and lit. Decided to do just lights this year. Only ornament is the star on top. Our little guy made it in school.
