Got on a bird around 7:15 this morning that my little girl & I tried on youth day and I tried this past Saturday. He was about 500 yards across the valley on the property behind mine. It was a mixture of woods and field between him & me. I got him all wound up a couple times at that distance (I don't have permission for that property.........guy doesn't care for me much). Someone else was on that property about 100 yards to the right of the gobbling bird. Didn't know it til I fired him up then they started to call. I was expecting the heated up bird to head toward the other guy. I wouldn't even expect him to thank me for cranking his bird up for him. But the bird went cold and evidently the other fellow left. Around 9:00-ish I got out my slate. I had been calling with a diaphragm off & on with no response. Rolled some yelps off the slate and he HAMMERED. Still in the same place 500 yards across the neighbor's property. Wellllllll.................. very long story short, the bird had come the whole way across (and actually a little farther) and brought a girlfriend with him. At 10:40 2 oz. of #6's went 39 yards out through my woods to loosen up 2014 spring turkey tag #1. A 2 year old. 21 lbs, 9 1/2" 3/4" spurs.

These were 3 1/2" #6 shot.

Well............. got to run a few LBXR #6's through one of my turkey guns this evening................ GOOD HEAVENS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just a quick, preliminary trial. Not a lasered 40 yards. 40 of my steps which is likely 42 or 43 yards. Absolutely DEVASTATING !!!!!!!!!! I have shot more gun, shotshell & choke combinations over the years than I could begin to guess at a count. Tonite's results are considerably better than ANYTHING I've ever seen. The first shot I took was off center and low. But an educated guess is that 90% of the entire pattern was in a 12 inch diameter area. 12 INCHES !!!!!!!!!! At 40 yards !!!!!!!!!! I need to get the measuring disc out and do the actual math, but........... I've never seen anything like it !!!

Wow !! 28 in SC !!!! 19 or 20 here this morning but you kinda learn to expect that any month but July or August here.

Sunday it hit 80 degrees. This morning at 6:00 it was 60 degrees. As of 1/2 hour ago it is 35 degrees and SNOWING !!!!!!!! :bang: 'Bout had enough of this..........................

Looks great !! A lot of hard work has taken place. The Google Earth pic looks awesome !! Lots of natural funnel looking areas. Should be a great piece to hunt !!

Interesting observation. I'm also in the "can't afford Swarovski" crowd. But I generally only buy riflescopes and binos from one shop. It's a small enough place that they will let you take them outside the door so you can look across town at the hillsides etc.

They look like they oughta work !!! Welcome to the addiction of call building. You'll be forever tinkering and tweaking to change the sound a little this way or that way............ Can be very rewarding and very frustrating at the same time. But there's ain't much cooler than smoking a big old sharp-spurred longbeard with a call you built with your own hands.
