Almost always have the camera with me. Never know what you'll see. But I don't self-film my own hunts. Too much monkeying around for me. I do video Lil's hunts when we are together (which is less and less anymore........ he goes to his stands & I go to mine....... he ain't so "lil" anymore !!). I got some SUPER nice HD footage of his first deer !! It was an archery 8-pointer.

What was your first deer you shot with a bow?

Last day of archery 1984. I was staying with a buddy in a dorm on the Penn State campus. We still-hunted up over a mountain about 300-400 yards apart........... him with a shotgun for turkeys and me with my Browning X-Cellerator compound for deer. It was right around 80 degrees that day. About 3/4 of the way to the top of the mountain I heard a deer coming around a laurel thicket to my left. It was a little PA mountain 5-pointer. Drew and poked him right through the ribs. IIRC it was like 14 yards. He ran about 75 yards & piled up. Gutted him and dragged him back to the car and hauled him back to State College in the trunk of a '67 Impala. Found a back road and hanged him in a tree (coincidentally RIGHT across the road from the back of Penn State's deer research fence) and skinned him because the processor wouldn't take it unless it was skinned. Picked up the meat the next day and it all fit in a dorm refrigerator !! -
Hope you have a great one, bud !!!!! :happybday:

Boils down to this: The light was red. You were either under it and/or through or you were not. It IS America. People choose to do what they wish for one reason or another. In doing so they also should acknowledge the risk of getting caught and pinched. The law is the law. Gray areas are few and far between.

I'm a little off the 1K/year pace. But I DO have some seniority.

Here's my take. I am staunchly against governmental intrusions into my constitutional liberties. HOWEVER................. driving is a PRIVILEGE not a right. I drive a commercial vehicle in a suburban commercial area environment 50 or so hours a week. The OVERWHELMING percentage of auto "accidents" I see are intersection accidents. I would take a rough guess that during the course of ONE working day I personally witness 20-30 stop sign and red light violations (including the famous left turn on red at the end of the green light). I feel that it IS a case, in this instance, that if one is NOT breaking the law he doesn't get a ticket. Gassing on it to beat a yellow light is not only unsafe, it is a crapshoot with the law. You either ARE or you ARE NOT under the light when it turns red. Pretty simple. Your wheels either STOP COMPLETELY at a stop sign.......... or they DO NOT. If you gamble and lose I really have no pity. The very best scenario in non-stop violations is that the driver gets a ticket. Intersection "accidents" (I use quotes because they are not "accidents". They are stupidity and/or ignorance on somebody's part) are some of the most violent. How would you feel if you had to go through the rest of your life knowing you injured or killed another motorist or passenger because you couldn't wait the 1 or 2 or 3 minutes for the next green light ?

It's not improving here. You can't even find a box of .308 shells anywhere. Sporting goods guy at a local WalMart told me there is a local network of ammo hoarders. Ammo comes out for stocking around 7:00-7:30 A.M. A regular will be there to scoop his 2 box limit and at the same time he hits all the other guys up on the cell phone. They flock in and the ammo........... whatever little bit had come in.............. is GONZO in 1/2 hour or so. I'm glad I am not out or in dire need of ammo to shoot. I don't see our local situation improving any time soon.

Local WalMarts here still have ZERO .380, 9mm, .40, .45, .22 RF, .308, .223 or 5.56, 12 ga, 20 ga.......... and others I'm not thinking of. Jack squat

You put forth a BUNCH of good thinking in your post Hoosier. The problem with it in my own situation is the neighbors. On one side I've got a guy who has his hunters putting up stands on line trees eve though he owns about 130 acres and could put them LOTS of other places. He has a handful of "city" guys who come in for a hunt or two during general firearm season and they will down anything PA legal and some that are not. On another side I have a nurseryman who does not hunt. But he has "hired guns" come in during gun season and, again, brown and down it. On a third side the landowner leases out to a corn and bean farmer who, every year, gets the maximum number of damage permits he is allowed and pounds the deer from that side. The landowner and his extended family and outlaw friends also aren't at all into any sort of management practices. The ONLY saving grace where I am is that I own the PRIME piece of bedding cover and have done a LOT of improvements. And the neighbor lady has 100 acres posted to EVERYONE but me and my uncle maintain foodplots on that piece. The neighborhood collaboration is a SUPER idea to gain a quantity of land that actual management practices can be effective. But ya gotta have good neighbors.

You might go on to explain to the gentleman just WHY you arrived at the decision you made (if you haven't already). If he's a true hunter he will understand.

I've had 5 cameras running for 5 or 6 weeks. Finally pulled the cards today and got a grand total of................... ONE ............ decent looking buck from the whole batch. Not a particularly good pic either. Appears to be a 2.5 year 8 pointer and already broken on the left side. Anyhoo........... here he is.

The state I do all my deer hunting in............................ Pennsylvania. I'd opt for Ohio or Iowa

Glad all's going so well for you guys out there !! Was actually boating the river last Sunday afternoon. Was thinking about you guys !!! LOL !!

Like hittin' the lottery !!!! Glad I was amply stocked up long before this latest round of insanity kicked in. Who'da ever thunk that in the US of A there would be a day a guy couldn't find a box or two of freakin' .22 shells ?????????????????

Thanks for the wishes everyone !! Went out for breakfast with Momma and the kids. Came home and did pretty much nothin' all day and ended the evening with a romantic shopping trip with Momma and the kids to Walmart. Don't get much better'n that !!!

Not "had". Has. It's biologically unsound and all-around asinine. The 3 or 4 point rule type of AR just lops the top off the gene pool. I have NEVER seen more crap bucks here in PA than I have since our wonderful AR has kicked in.

Welcome back Pinwheel !! The old farts remember ya !!!

AR has KILLED the deer hunting tradition in PA. One only has to look at the plummeting numbers in license sales since AR implementation. Pennsylvania lost over 130,000 hunters in the first 10 years of AR. Hope and pray they don't come to a woods near you.
